Our 200 year old cottage retains all the quaint charms of days-gone-by, but has all the amenities and comforts of a modern home. It’s a lovely and tranquil retreat in highly sought after Stow-on-the-Wold, one of England’s most picturesque villages in the Cotswolds, reachable by car or train. Train station is ten minutes from nearby Moreton in Marsh with bus service to Stow. Train ride is just 1 hour and 20 minutes from London.
Within the village are The Royalist, the oldest inn in England, and St. Edward’s, one of the great wool churches, as well as the Toy and Collectors Museum. Stow has wonderful boutiques and galleries, excellent restaurants and tea rooms, and walking trails through the lovely countryside. Every weekend during any time of the year has something going on in town: antique markets, farmers markets with local produce, etc.
This warmly intimate two bedroom cottage has designer furniture, beautiful original art, antiques and a wood-burning fireplace to keep it cozy. The newly carpeted and painted living room features a 42 inch plasma television, SKY satellite programming and a DVD player. Enjoy music on our CD/Stereo/Digital Radio System while seated on our custom made corner sofa or a wing back armchair and foot stool.
The charming kitchen and dining area has been fully updated with new appliances including a fridge, electric stove, dishwasher and microwave as well as a gourmet’s cookware and utensils. Set the dining table for four with colorful glasses from our crystal cabinet. Washer and dryer on premises.
The master bedroom features a king size bed and a 21 inch LCD flat screen television. Guest bedroom has a double bed. Luxurious linens are provided. The fully modernized bathroom features a separate shower and a large tub for a satisfying and soapy plunge.
Outside the house is a lovely, gated garden with a deck and outdoor furniture for four and ample street parking. A telephone is provided as well as wireless Broadband Internet. Clean, well behaved dogs are welcome by prior arrangement - sorry, no cats. Smoking is not allowed inside this home.
This central location in the Cotswolds is close to the area's other famous villages of Moreton-in-Marsh, Chipping Campden, Burford, Upper and Lower Slaughter and Bourton-on-the-Water. 25 minutes away are Cirencester, Cheltenham and Stratford-Upon-Avon.

I have stayed in many rentals and Carters Cottage was one of the nicest places I've stayed. The owners have decorated beautifully and put thoughtfulness and care into what they provide their renters. The best thing is the overall aesthetic. The cottage is adorable... oh, and the beds and linens are fantastic (they were better than at home which is saying a lot). Thank you!
Carter Cottage is a great property in a great location. The cottage was ideal for two people who can manage stairs easily. It has the feeling of being lived in. The beds were very good, the linens provided were great. We appreciated the bottle of wine and cake on the table at arrival. Some of the instructions about getting in were not quite accurate. There was not a key under a flower pot for the first gate, but it was open. We never found paper work in a basket in the kitchen for instructions on appliances. We did figure out everything. We had a problem with very little water pressure in the kitchen, and especially in the shower. We were finally able to get in touch with the contact person who said she would take care of the problem. She did bring a plumber while we were away but nothing changed. On two different days we talked with her and she even had the owner call. She assured us we would hear back from her. We never heard a word again. We have used VRBO many times and have had great experiences. I would like to have had a few more items in the kitchen pantry such as paper towels, napkins, salt, pepper. This cottage is cute, a little worn but I would recommend it because of the location. Our stay in Stow on the Wold was a nice way to experience The Cotswolds. I would recommend it but make sure you have been in contact with the property manager before arrival.
This was our second stay at Carter's Cottage. Stow-on-the-Wold is the perfect location for a visit to the Cotswolds and the cottage is well-located and comfortable. The village is quaint and has all the amenities, from local cheese purveyor and butcher, to a well-stocked Tesco, all within a short walk. Restaurants abound in town or a short drive to neighboring villages. The country walks are wonderful !
We did have a little trouble getting into the cottage, the house phone did not work, and we could not communicate with the property manager. Otherwise, it was a wonderful 2 weeks !
Carter's Cottage is a charming, well-equipped cottage in a quiet neighborhood. The owners shared great recommendations for restaurants and grocery stores in Stow, and the town square is an easy, short walk. It is also conveniently located to travel around the Cotswolds, which my husband and I explored by car and the wonderful walking paths. There is parking near the cottage, but not at the front door as it is located on a narrow street. Four guests would fill the cottage.
Property was lovely. It is very central to the town of Stow on the Wold. Lots of interesting places and things to explore in the area.
The cottage was charming. Two comfortable beds, one and one-half baths, a well-furnished kitchen, and a cozy living room made our week-long stay memorable. Although the cottage was located on a very small alley (no parking right in front), we were always able to find a parking space. The cottage was close to the main part of town, and we enjoyed the Indian restaurant (they had take-out) located right around the corner from the cottage. The garden was small but beautiful. The bedrooms and the full bath were upstairs, and the living area and half-bath and laundry were down. The entire property was spotless and well-cared for. Stow-on-the-Wold is in a great location, near to Stratford and Warwick Castle, Kenilworth, and all the other small and charming Cotwolds towns. I hope to be able to stay here again and would definitely recommend this cottage to my friends and relatives.
Lovely, well equipped, quaint cottage with a cosy little garden palatial.
