Guestbook comments from the owner

we are putting a divider around the bath downstairs after a long rental season we fixed the loose boards and the screens that were loosened to get back in from guests that locked their keys inside the house- the music next door was from boys putting on a roof the house was closed up tight for two weeks maybe that didnt help with the allergies

Adorable little house!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time during our stay! The house is well-equipped with all the essentials and we were all very comfortable. Dock was Great! This was perfect for our small group of friends. My friend, who booked the house, said the owner was super nice to deal with. We're already planning a return trip!

Wonderful Outdoor Vacation Spot!

  • 4 of 5

We just returned from our week stay at SML - our first visit but we will definitely return! SML is a beautiful lake - we spent a good portion of the week on the water in boat rentals. The outdoor areas of the home were great - plenty of room on the upstairs deck as well as the lower level deck area. The dock was one of the best we saw - plenty of space and plenty of shaded area. Good swimming location.

There are a LOT of steps - 76 to be exact! However, even my 86 year old father was able to make the trip up & down twice in a day without too much difficulty as there are plenty of landings along the way in which to stop and rest. Nice screened in porch area at the top too!

My only recommendations would be to bring some lawn chairs along as there isn't a lot of seating available outdoors on the deck areas / porch area. As well, the grill was not functioning so we went to the Dollar General and bought a charcoal grill for the week. As with any home there, it is probably best enjoyed with a boat rental - which is what we did. I highly recommend Captains Quarters for your boating needs - we rented from them for two days and BWMarina for two - definitely would choose Captains Quarters for the entire trip next year!

We are already looking forward to next year!!!

Wine Festival Weekend Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Kev & I stayed here for a wonderful romantic weekend getaway. We chose this cabin because we were spending the day at the Smith Mountain Lake Wine Festival. The cabin is about 15 minutes from the festival, so it was very close! Although it was just the 2 of us, the cabin is arranged in such a way that large families, or even 3 couples could each have a floor of their own! We thoroughly enjoyed the seclusion the cabin afforded and the chance to just relax! I can't say enough how wonderful the property owners were to deal with. I would definitely recommend this cabin to those who don't mind stairs! It was a great value for the money ~M

Peaceful, well-equipped home!

  • 4 of 5

We rented this home in mid-August for a great week! Our group of 6 included my husband/me, two 11-yr-olds, a 16-yr-old and an 18-yr-old (our sons & their friends). The house is somewhat dated, but clean. It was well-appointed in that there were plenty of dishes, utensils, cookware, etc. They didn't match, but who cares. The loft was perfect for the younger boys. The detached lower room was perfect for the teenagers, though some might find it...interesting. We knew there was a toilet in the middle of the room as we read previous reviews. However, we also read that a screen was being put up. That apparently never happened. So, yes, there's a "full bathroom" in that room. Literally. IN the room. No privacy. The sink is behind the entrance into the room; the shower is right beside the toilet (though it does have a curtain); the toilet is in the middle of the room when you walk in the door. Didn't bother the teenagers, but it's odd! We appreciated the extra movie channels on the satellite dish and all of the games and puzzles at the beginning of the week when we had three days of rain. The kids did report that many of the games had a piece or more missing. Didn't slow them down any. The house has Wifi, but it's data limited and the signal is too weak for anything significant. This house would not be suitable for people with disabilities. There are A LOT of steps down to the dock... they are steep and have a railing on only one side. But they are in good condition. The dock is nice, but, in parts, is very slimy when it's wet (in the spots that don't get as much sun). The kids loved the peddle boat and kayak and spent hours in the cove. We had plenty of space to tie up our rented boat for the week, as well. Oh, and the cove is DEEP. Loved it. It's a very small cove, though. If you come with your own boat, beware that there's significant wake that gets to the back of the cove because it's right on the main channel. Location wise, it was convenient to Bridgewater Marina by land or water (10 minutes). Diamond Hill General Store is 5 minutes up the road for "emergency" runs. Food Lion is another 5 minutes for more substantial (& much cheaper) groceries. The roads to get to the house are increasingly narrower the closer you get. I'm glad we didn't try to find it in the dark. There's a near hairpin turn up a steep hill to leave. The owners were very nice and helpful. Would recommend this no-frills house to a group like ours or maybe two couples or a group of friends.

Wonderful property!

  • 5 of 5

Probably my favorite vacation yet! The location was very private and the cozy, quaint home was more than accomodating for my family of four. The boys loved the downstairs bedroom with games and their own TV. The fishing was great with us catching bass, catfish, and carp. I recommend Parot Cove for renting a boat, but we also caught fish from the dock. There is a perfect little country store within minutes of the property that has a full service restaurant and hand dipped ice cream. The Bridgewater Marina is within 10-15 minutes by boat or car that has multiple shops, restaurants and an arcade that was perfect for my seven year old. I cant say enough about how wonderful the owners are to work with. I highly recommend this property for the perfect family vacation or couple retreat.
