The home is at the end of a road winding through 5 acres of landscaping and faces east on Blind Pass which teams with wildlife: ospreys, eagle, egrets, ibis, pelicans and more; fish off the dock include sea trout, sheepshead (if you can filet this fish, it is great eating), and daily dolphin sitings. Sit on the large dock to fish or enjoy the wildlife and the passing boat traffic. Large, fenced, heated pool with copious sitting room. Outdoor table tennis, barbecue and a nearby bar fridge in the room with a billiard table. First level has a very large deck, 2 screened lanais, a large open space for sitting, dining, tv watching. Kitchen has all the modern amenities (needs some additional wares such as bowls for soup or cereal). One bedroom on this level with en suite (all bedrooms have their own bath and shower) plus a bathroom for guests. Third floor has a master suite and large closet with a whirlpool bath. Back balcony and large outside sitting area overlooking the water. Smaller bedroom on the opposite side in front with a deck and a large king bedroom is the fourth bedroom. All bedrooms have televisions and ample storage and three have a single bed as well as the main bed. The top floor has a sitting area with a large sectional sofa and a balcony.
The house has ample linens and plush towels for use at the pool or on the Gulf front beach (which is accessed by a short dedicated walkway across Captiva Drive). A large garage contains many bikes, a wagon, pool and beach toys, and folding chairs for the beach. Easily accessed wifi and cable television.
Close to restaurants: Mad Hatter, Sunset Grille, Lazy Flamingo Key LimeBistro, Crowsnest, Old Captiva House, Mucky Duck and small stores (one a short walk across the bridge at Blind Pass, others at the north end of the Island). We used the marinas at Jensens and at Tween Waters for boat and fishing charters over the 6 week stay. Make the trip to Cabbage Key and Cayo Costa.
Tranquil sanctuary away from the fray where adult couples, their children and good friends can congregate for a great and relaxing time in a special part of the world.
Drawbacks include the absence of an elevator or any access for the disabled traveller and a sometimes frustrating trips off the islands to the mainland (allow ample time to get to the international airport when leaving) or returning (use West Gulf to Rabbit Road rather than the challenging Periwinkle Way).
We had great assistance from the staff who take care of the house.
Providence was an amazing house with unbelievable views from every room, tons of space and plenty of activities to keep us entertained. Each morning and evening we felt we were watching a National Geographic movie looking off the back porch into the bay as osprey, ibis and egrets feasted in the receding tides and 18" fish were bounding out of the water 10 feet at a time. The beach was beautiful and isolated and just across the street. The house was perfect for children due to the openness of the kitchen and living spaces and the multiple gates that limited our toddlers access to the pool. While great for young children, the kayaks, ping pong, and bikes made it great for any age."
A wonderful week spent celebrating 50th anniversary. The home is all that it says, the dock for fishing and pool were in constant use. the beach is wonderful. the kitchen is stocked with every need. our family relaxed on the porches, played games, sleeping areas were wonderful. This was by far the best way we could celebrate and are so glad we chose Providence. Michael is a gracious owner, much thanks!!! Plan on going back!!!!
We stayed at the beautiful Providence property over Christmas 2015. There were 13 of us in total, consisting of the matriarch and patriarch of our family, their 4 kids and spouses, and 4 grandkids ages 2 months-9years old. The house and vacation was perfect for everyone. We LOVED staying on the bay side. We saw dolphins every single day, osprey, eagles, pelicans and even saw the elusive manatee on our last day. The pool was the perfect temp and was inviting to go in at any time of day. The house and setting was so great that we barely went to the beach...which was stunning! We did spend 2 nights of sunsets at the beach which was beautiful and so relaxing.
We went to the Bubble Room, which is pretty touristy as I understand, but everyone in our group loved it:) We also loved the Mucky Duck and Doc Fords.
We did go to the Ding Darling Refugee and also did the sunset cruise, but although enjoyable, we felt like we could've stayed at home and viewed all the same wildlife from our dock.
The house and bedrooms were all large--we had plenty of room! The owners also decorated for Christmas, which was such a special touch.
We loved this vacation so much and hope to go back some day.
Thanks to Michael for taking such good care of us!
I walked into this house, my jaw dropped, and I didn't want to leave! It is grand in every sense of the word; the photos don't do it justice! There were four couples (my sons and their wives/girlfriends plus myself and my husband) and "the grandbaby." There was plenty of space for all of us, and the house is surprisingly baby-proof--mainly because there isn't a lot of unnecessary "decoration" lying about. From the layout to the flooring to the counter tops to the furnishings, Providence is exquisitely well-designed. There were activities for every taste close at hand: ping pong, board games, a high balcony for watching the remains of Erika approaching, a pool with just the right temperature, a dock for fishing and launching kayaks into the intracoastal. Our "occasion" was my 60th birthday, and the kitchen was better equipped than any rental I've encountered, making it easy and fun for the "girls" making the birthday dinner. When I drove away on Sunday at sunset for the trip home, there was a rainbow and I thought, "This was like somewhere over the rainbow. I hope to return someday."
Providence is magical, and exceeded our expectations. Staying on the bay side was best for enjoying the wonderful, private property. The design of the house truly integrates the inside and outside. I can't imagine a better place to stay on captiva. Bedrooms large and comfortable, kitchen very well equipped, views incomparable. Everything that is said here is true, if not understated! We will take our family back if we can get the time. We want to go back!
We have visited the Sanibel/Captiva area at least 20 times and this home was our finest experience. There were 10 of us staying in the house but we each had our own space and plenty of room. It is ideal for large groups/families.
This was our first experience staying on the bay/channel side and we loved it. It was just like having our own wildlife sanctuary in our back yard - eagles, osprey, hundreds of birds, flamingoes, dolphins. Access to kayaks and bicycles provided a wonderful outlet for athletic young adults and children. They spent hours kayaking up and down the channel and biked on Captiva and on Sanibel. Fishing was fun off the dock - we used frozen shrimp purchased at the little general store - and were able to catch a number of fish - including the fish out 10 yr old granddaughter caught 5 minutes after throwing in her line.
The sunrises were exquisite - I cherished the quiet time with the orange sky over the east horizon. We marveled at the incredible sky - we even saw a shooting star from the "captain's loft" as we watched the full moon rise over the channel. It was an experience you can't duplicate anywhere.
The beach was wide and beautiful with wonderful soft sand - and just down the beach at an inlet were piles and piles of shells. The house provided chairs, umbrellas and lots of pool and beach toys. Pool or beach?? Tough decisions we had to make every day. Everyone loved the whole week - "our best family vacation ever!" (A quote from our granddaughters.)
We will most definitely be back. Thank you Michael for the wonderful "gift" when we arrived and for providing our family the opportunity to enjoy a week in such a beautiful home.
