About The Owner

We have always enjoyed Lake Tahoe even before we had children. Now we have 4 adult children that grew up coming to the lake and creating wonderful memories at our Charney Chalet! The whole family enjoys visiting for all seasons. In the winter, Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows and Northstar are all within 15 -20 minutes from our home. There is great hiking right out our door or not far away. We love to travel with our dog and that is why we extend that to our guests. Dogs love Lake Tahoe as much as their other family members. We have shown you some of the nearby hiking trails on the map.

The Owner purchased this house in 2005

Why The Owner chose Carnelian Bay

We have visited many areas of the Lake Tahoe region. We enjoy the north shore because it is less hectic and less influenced by the south shore casinos. Agate Bay is a very special place with a community pool and tennis courts. It is so quiet, that on a busy 4th of July weekend, in Agate Bay, you would not even know it was so busy several miles away in Kings Beach and Tahoe City. We are located on a quiet street with underground utility wires that sits across the street from nature conservancy land. We offer our home for you to enjoy Lake Tahoe and Agate Bay.

What makes this house unique

We love spending time with our family and extended family sitting on our deck during the summer. Our lot is 1/3 acre so there is a sense of privacy, peacefulness and quiet. Our street has underground utility wires and our wooded surroundings makes for an amazing getaway feeling, while knowing that we can cook a gourmet meal or a quick snack in our new kitchen just back inside our french doors. Our home is big enough to come together in the great room for meals, hanging out, watching a movie, or playing games. Our home also allows room for privacy in the many well-appointed bedrooms and bonus room. All of our furnishing and amenities are new and it does not feel like a rental home but our home away from home. In the winter, our home is easily warmed up with our wood-burning stove or our central heater. There is a lot of room outside to play and sled. The NEW hot tub is four steps from the french doors off the great room, so getting there year round is a luxurious opportunity.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you so very much for allowing us to stay in your fabulous home! Snuggling up by the fire, sipping hot chocolate (let's be honest... wine, too) and talking/ reconnecting with family and friends. Each room lovingly prepared by all of you. You have thought of every detail and anticipated every need. We can't wait to return!!

Wonderful, cozy yet open and functional!

  • 5 of 5

My group of friends have an annual tradition of celebrating Thanksgiving in the Tahoe area. We had a FANTASTIC stay at the Charney Chalet; it was well-equipped for preparing and enjoying a large, indulgent group meal. The space is simultaneously functional, cozy, and open. While beautiful, the space is also lived-in, meaning we didn't feel like we were walking on eggshells. We really enjoyed ourselves, thanks to the Charneys! Thank you!

Best Family Vacation EVER!

  • 5 of 5

Spacious, well appointed, extremely comfortable home. We had 8 people in our family and we all had a spectacular time. Enjoyed the deck overlooking the forest...watching the leaves change relaxing. Hot tub was large, warm and inviting right on back deck! Took wonderful hikes and even rented a boat on Lake Tahoe! Open concept family/living room/kitchen provided a great environment for family games and fun. I would absolutely HIGHLY recommend this chalet.

Owner's Response: We are so glad that your family vacation at the Charney Chalet was your best family vacation ever! We appreciate your feedback and all the fun activities you could experience. We love renting a boat for the morning or full day and it really provides the true Lake Tahoe fun. We like to kayak and sup as well. The autumn is a quiet and beautiful time to witness the fall colors, warm days and cool nights. Our large living space with deck does allow for wonderful family time, cooking, eating, playing games, t.v. and hot tubbing! We are so glad that you had a wonderful time creating memories together and we hope you can return as guests again.

Amazing Home in Agate Bay

  • 5 of 5

The Charney Chalet was the perfect place to spend a wonderful week in Tahoe! We felt at home from the moment we stepped in the door. The house is beautifully furnished and spacious. We had two families and never felt crowded. Mark and Tere have stocked the house with every amenity, from a gourmet kitchen that feels like you are at home to laundry detergent in the laundry room and soap, shampoo and conditioner in the bathroom. Our family loved the location in beautiful Agate bay where we could walk to the community pool or the lake within 10 minutes. There is a wonderful hot tub on a large deck where we all gathered in the evenings. We have been coming to Agate Bay for more than 30 years and this was the best house we have rented. We will definitely be renting the Charney Chalet in again!

Owner's Response: We are so happy that you chose our home for your family summer tradition in Agate Bay. It was also nice talking with you and having you share some of those old memories of our neighborhood. We strive to create a comfortable and fully equiped home away from home. We often have guests who come with extended family or another friend family and our home lends itself well for privacy yet large open spaces to share time together. We really enjoy our great room that extends to the deck and hot tub and having it on the second floor allows for nice views of the forest and a small peek view of Lake Tahoe. During the summer, it is nice to be within walking distance of the Agate Bay Swim Club and dog-friendly Patton Beach. We look forward to having you return with your family for future summer vacations at the lake!

More of a 3 bedroom - not 4 - IMO

  • 3 of 5

The house was nice, clean and the owners were very helpful and provided many amenities. My only comment was about the "4th bedroom." The room was really more of a bonus room - you had to go through the garage to access it. For our group, it was not ideal since we were traveling with small children, so it was important that the rooms be more traditionally placed near each other. My kids called the 4th bedroom/bonus room "the dungeon" and were scared to go there and would definitely NOT sleep there. It wasn't an unpleasant room, just very separated and more of a game room. As a result, we did not use it and made do with the 3 bedrooms. For groups with adults and/or older kids who are ok being separated, it might work better. But overall I would not call this a 4 bedroom house. I'd call it a 3 bedroom with a separate bonus/extra room - access through the garage and go downstairs - with a trundle bed. Otherwise, it was a nice place and the owners very helpful.

Owner's Response: We appreciate your feedback. We try to let our guests know about our bonus room and its location. Many of our guests prefer its privacy and the ability to watch movies, play foosball, sleep there and have a private full bathroom and shower. It also has lots of light with a sliding glass door to the backyard. We understand that very small children would not want to sleep there without a parent near by and so we will strive to communicate that more. Moreover, we are happy that a better choice for the children would be with our bunk bed room with our fire engine bunkbed. Adults like it too! It is next to the queen bed room that shares a large bathroom. This seems the most child-friendly place for children to sleep. With all the choices our home has to offer for sleeping arrangements, we will try to clarify the Bonus Room (as it is labeled in our home and on our site) so our guests are fully aware of its location, while connected to our home as a tastefully-done addition.

The home is amazing. Not only is it clean, warm, perfect size, but it also

  • 5 of 5

The home is amazing, clean, warm, cozy, and plenty big. There is a hot tub right outside the sliding glass door on the balcony that is perfect after a long day skiing. The kitchen is large and has everything and anything you would need to make meals and desserts. Personalized soaps are carefully placed in the bathrooms. There are four large bedrooms which sleep at least 12 people comfortably.

The area, Cornelian Bay, is a fabulous location for winter and summer. It is walking distance to the lake, easy drive to Northstar Skiing, and close to several small villages. The neighborhood is very clean and beautiful. Homes are not too close to each other, giving guests plenty of privacy. It is also very quiet and has many beautiful trees.

We have stayed in this home four times during the ski seasons over several years and can't wait to return!

Owner's Response: We are so grateful you shared your thoughts about our Lake Tahoe family vacation home. We strive to create a home-away-from-home feeling and with little details like our soaps and a fully stocked kitchen, we hope this achieves that purpose. Our neighborhood is very quiet with lots of trees and privacy and a little peek of Lake Tahoe. We hope you choose to return to our home for your future Sierra vacation and we truly appreciate your loyalty, as our home is your home.

Comfortable home great for families with kids

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful snowy weekend at this home. Two families with 2 kids each (all in the 3 -7 yr old range). The house had lots of board games, toys, books, sleds, etc to keep the little ones entertained. The kitchen had all of the cooking utensils we needed and the beds were comfortable with plenty of blankets and pillows. We enjoyed the hot tub and the open living room/kitchen/dining room area was nice for socializing and cooking together. We would definitely stay here again.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your kind words. We are glad you had a great time at our Charney Chalet. Our fire engine bunk bed is perfect for children within your age group and we hope they enjoyed sleeping in those fun beds. Adults enjoy it too as it has two regular size twin beds. We have saved all of our four children's puzzles, toys and games to share with our guests. Our great room is perfect for two families or one large family to share the space while cooking and enjoying each other's company. We hope to have you return as guest again.

Our home is located close to any activity you might want in the Lake Tahoe region, yet is on a quiet flat street with no power lines so you really feel like you are in the woods. Our location allows you to avoid the crazy crowds thronging the casinos of the south shore. We are also far enough away from busier Tahoe City (7 miles) that you will truly feel you are in the mountains. But if you want a nice dinner on the lake or to rent a boat, you will not have far to go. You can even avoid going through Tahoe City to arrive at our home by going through Kings Beach. In the winter, downhill skiing is available at more than 10 ski areas within 40 minutes with Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows, and Northstar less than 20 minutes away. In the summer, a hike up the hill or a short drive takes you to the Tahoe Rim Trail. Other trails and wilderness are also easily accessible. A large network of trails for mountain biking are right out our door. Enjoy the north shore of Lake Tahoe!
