About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms (Sleeps 10)

Enjoy the wonderful quiet surroundings of Lake Tahoe in our gorgeous mountain home, CHARNEY CHALET. It offers over 2200 square feet of spacious living space on a 1/3 acre lot. This retreat is newly decorated in alpine comfort and elegance. There is a newly remodeled kitchen with solid granite countertops, hardwood floors and beautiful wood appointments throughout. The kitchen has a 4 burner gas cook top with a convection oven. It is fully stocked with exceptional Gunter Wilhelm Executive Chef Series 7 pc. Knife Set (High Carbon Stainless Steel) sold at Williams-Sonoma. This is added to our smaller existing set of Michael Chiarello Napa-Style Santoku high-end knives. We have recently added a 10 piece set of Calphalon Durable Hand-Anodized Aluminum Non-Stick interior Pots and Pans with Stay Cool Handles and Oven safe to 450 degrees. This improvement should make the most discriminating chef happy. Since we frequent our Lake Tahoe home often, we look forward to having a beautifully-stocked kitchen for our own family meals, as well for our many guest renters. Professional chefs have even complimented us on our cook ware. There is a large dining table that easily seats 10. We have Fiesta Ware plates and serving platters with lots of silverware to compliment the table.

The well-furnished large Great Room has a cozy river rock fireplace as a focal point. We have lots of seating for your group to be together. Enjoy music on the stereo sound system or watch a DVD on the new 39' flat screen HD-TV. Watch a movie from cable on demand. The large living area also includes a reading nook surrounded by lovely windows and French doors that lead to our deck. Just outside on the private deck is our brand NEW Marquis hot tub with peek views of Lake Tahoe. Our hot tub seats 4 - 5 and has fountain features and is state of the art! We have our hot tub professionally cleaned and maintained before every new guest rental arrives. There is a table, umbrella, chairs and a barbecue on the deck, as well, for enjoying the outdoor ambience during the summer months. A well-appointed powder room is off the great room. This great room offers a very large living area with high pine ceilings that allows for wonderful family time with mountain atmosphere.

The spacious master suite is on the same level as the kitchen and great room. It has a comfortable California king bed as well as a 20 inch TV with cable and DVD, and private bathroom with a shower. The King bed offers a down comforter and a choice of foam or down pillows. Included in the master suite is a comfortable lounging sofa for reading or watching movies. There is a private entrance to the deck through French doors if you want to sneak out for a private soak in our NEW hot tub after the kids are in bed. There is ample closet and dresser space. Views of the pine trees allows privacy from this spacious master suite.

Down stairs is a lovely Queen bed room with a down comforter and a small TV with cable. It is perfect as a second master bedroom if two families are sharing the home. Its decor is European Alpine and gives you a mountain retreat atmosphere. There is a bay window with seating for reading or relaxing. There is also a room with 2 bunkbeds for the kids to have their own space. The downstairs bathroom has 2 sinks and a full bathtub and shower. The full-sized washer and dryer is located in the large laundry room with iron and ironing board and room for delicate clothing air drying. We provide laundry soap for your stay.

A private bonus bedroom is accessible from the rear of the attached garage. This is the perfect room to send the kids to play foosball or watch their own movie on a TV with DVD/VCR with cable while the adults enjoy the great room upstairs. It even has a full bathroom with shower. There is also a very comfortable and attractive wood-framed twin trundle day bed with a pop up twin trundle mattress. This room serves as a two person bedroom if more sleeping space is needed. This hideaway bedroom is quiet and private with access to the backyard through the sliding glass doors. It has forced air heating but also has its own new wall heater for comfort. There is an armoire for your convenience.

Linen for the beds and towels are provided for your use. In the summer, you will want to bring beach towels to use at the pool and the lake. There is shampoo, conditioner, soap and blow dryers in each bathroom.

Our home is centrally located 6 miles east of Tahoe City and 2 miles west of Kings Beach in the private Agate Bay neighborhood. Our home sits on an approximately 1/3 acre lot on one of the finest streets in Agate Bay. We are surrounded by a quiet, wooded neighborhood with underground utility wires. Fine dining is nearby at Gar Woods or enjoy casual dining at CB pizza. There are many other excellent options as well. Nevada casinos are 10 minutes away in Crystal Bay or a little further to Incline Village.

Northstar, Squaw Valley, and Alpine Meadows are less than 15 miles away for downhill and cross country skiing. Diamond Peak, Mt. Rose and Homewood are within 30 minutes of our home. There is snow shoeing available across the street in forest land. In the summer, walk to the nearby Agate Bay Sun Club to swim in the pool or play ping pong, sand volley ball or tennis on our courts. These amenities are FREE to our guests during your stay. Dog friendly Patton beach is nearby where kayaks can be rented in the summer and some weekends throughout the year. World class hiking, mountain biking, and rafting are nearby.

Master Suite - King

2nd bedroom - Queen

3rd bedroom - 2 bunk beds (sleeps four)

Bonus room - Day Bed Trundle with two firm comfortable twin beds

We have our NEW Marquis Hot Tub Professionally Cleaned by Pomins of Tahoe City. You can be assured that our hot tub will be cleaned and ready for you before you arrive at our home.

About The Owner

We have always enjoyed Lake Tahoe even before we had children. Now we have 4 adult children that grew up coming to the lake and creating wonderful memories at our Charney Chalet! The whole family enjoys visiting for all seasons. In the winter, Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows and Northstar are all within 15 -20 minutes from our home. There is great hiking right out our door or not far away. We love to travel with our dog and that is why we extend that to our guests. Dogs love Lake Tahoe as much as their other family members. We have shown you some of the nearby hiking trails on the map.

The Owner purchased this house in 2005

Why The Owner chose Lake Tahoe North Shore

We have visited many areas of the Lake Tahoe region. We enjoy the north shore because it is less hectic and less influenced by the south shore casinos. Agate Bay is a very special place with a community pool and tennis courts. It is so quiet, that on a busy 4th of July weekend, in Agate Bay, you would not even know it was so busy several miles away in Kings Beach and Tahoe City. We are located on a quiet street with underground utility wires that sits across the street from nature conservancy land. We offer our home for you to enjoy Lake Tahoe and Agate Bay.

What makes this house unique

We love spending time with our family and extended family sitting on our deck during the summer. Our lot is 1/3 acre so there is a sense of privacy, peacefulness and quiet. Our street has underground utility wires and our wooded surroundings makes for an amazing getaway feeling, while knowing that we can cook a gourmet meal or a quick snack in our new kitchen just back inside our french doors. Our home is big enough to come together in the great room for meals, hanging out, watching a movie, or playing games. Our home also allows room for privacy in the many well-appointed bedrooms and bonus room. All of our furnishing and amenities are new and it does not feel like a rental home but our home away from home. In the winter, our home is easily warmed up with our wood-burning stove or our central heater. There is a lot of room outside to play and sled. The NEW hot tub is four steps from the french doors off the great room, so getting there year round is a luxurious opportunity.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you so very much for allowing us to stay in your fabulous home! Snuggling up by the fire, sipping hot chocolate (let's be honest... wine, too) and talking/ reconnecting with family and friends. Each room lovingly prepared by all of you. You have thought of every detail and anticipated every need. We can't wait to return!!

  • 5 of 5

The home is amazing, clean, warm, cozy, and plenty big. There is a hot tub right outside the sliding glass door on the balcony that is perfect after a long day skiing. The kitchen is large and has everything and anything you would need to make meals and desserts. Personalized soaps are carefully placed in the bathrooms. There are four large bedrooms which sleep at least 12 people comfortably.

The area, Cornelian Bay, is a fabulous location for winter and summer. It is walking distance to the lake, easy drive to Northstar Skiing, and close to several small villages. The neighborhood is very clean and beautiful. Homes are not too close to each other, giving guests plenty of privacy. It is also very quiet and has many beautiful trees.

We have stayed in this home four times during the ski seasons over several years and can't wait to return!

Owner's Response: We are so grateful you shared your thoughts about our Lake Tahoe family vacation home. We strive to create a home-away-from-home feeling and with little details like our soaps and a fully stocked kitchen, we hope this achieves that purpose. Our neighborhood is very quiet with lots of trees and privacy and a little peek of Lake Tahoe. We hope you choose to return to our home for your future Sierra vacation and we truly appreciate your loyalty, as our home is your home.

Comfortable home great for families with kids

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful snowy weekend at this home. Two families with 2 kids each (all in the 3 -7 yr old range). The house had lots of board games, toys, books, sleds, etc to keep the little ones entertained. The kitchen had all of the cooking utensils we needed and the beds were comfortable with plenty of blankets and pillows. We enjoyed the hot tub and the open living room/kitchen/dining room area was nice for socializing and cooking together. We would definitely stay here again.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your kind words. We are glad you had a great time at our Charney Chalet. Our fire engine bunk bed is perfect for children within your age group and we hope they enjoyed sleeping in those fun beds. Adults enjoy it too as it has two regular size twin beds. We have saved all of our four children's puzzles, toys and games to share with our guests. Our great room is perfect for two families or one large family to share the space while cooking and enjoying each other's company. We hope to have you return as guest again.

The perfect weekend

  • 5 of 5

This place was absolute bliss from the moment we arrived! Given the unpredictable weather, we were so excited to have it all work out! Thank you so much for sharing your vacation home with us! It was perfect for a long weekend getaway in the snow with our group of friends! We were able to snowshoe from the house for miles and miles, finally arriving at the top of some mountain overlooking Lake Tahoe! It was just gorgeous! Even better yet, our sweet little lab was able to join us in the fun! We had everything we needed to cook for a larger group, including seats around the table for all! Relaxing in the hot tub after multiple long days of winter sports was icing on the cake! Thanks again for everything!

Owner's Response: Wow! We are impressed that you snowshoed from our home up the Carnelian Trail to close to the Brockway Summit. We hike this a lot in the summer, as it has lots of off-shoot trails going in many directions. There has been SO much snow so that must have been heavenly. There are incredible vistas along the way of Lake Tahoe. This trail is one of many that you can take directly from the footsteps of our front door. It is nice to be able to not drive your car sometimes, as we can walk to the nearest beach which is less than a mile. Near the beach is Garwoods Restaurant, as well as miniature golf in the summer, so walking there is an option too. We were happy to keep you informed about the weather and assist you in anyway needed with all of these storms coming in this winter. We hope to have you return with your group in the future. Thank you for choosing our Charney Chalet for your Lake Tahoe vacation.

Great house, well-appointed kitchen and a fantastic location

  • 5 of 5

This house is amazing for a family vacation! We only had a few very minor issues. The copy of the key that we had often got stuck in the door and only one person in our group was able to get it to work (perhaps it's just a bad copy of a copy). The master bathroom is very tight! It's functional but very hard to maneuver with the door and shower. While the shower was oversized, it was very cramped trying to open or close the door and one person seriously bruised their shoulder when standing up from the toilet (bumped it on the handle of the shower). Overall both issues were very minor. The layout upstairs is wonderful for family gatherings. Having to go out through the garage to the bonus room was not ideal with small children but it was still wonderful to have the extra space. The kitchen was very well-appointed! It's in a very nice and quiet neighborhood and was well worth the expense.

Owner's Response: We are so glad that you enjoyed our Lake Tahoe family vacation home, The Charney Chalet. Our upstairs Great Room is really nice for family gatherings with the deck and hot tub right outside through both French doors in the living room and master bedroom. We will address the key and make a copy that works correctly. We hope to have you return to our home again. Thank you.

Wonderful space, great open room for our family gathering. The kitchen is extremely well stocked and had all we needed to make a full Thsnksgiving meal. The house is close to trails and within a short hike to the lake. The hosts, Mark and Tere, were extremely gracious and helpful. We would absolutely love to stay here again!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind words. We are glad that your Thanksgiving was enjoyable and that our home helped to create such a wonderful holiday. We love the quiet trails that are just outside our door. Because our street backs up to a large conservancy land that truly goes up to the Brockway summit, we have many trails to explore. We love all the seasons, and many of these trails are available all year long. We are continually adding to our kitchen gadgets as we love to cook together in our large great room that includes our kitchen. We look forward to hosting you again, like many of our return guests.

Beautiful Cabin Walking Distance from Lake Tahoe

  • 5 of 5

When we arrived, everything was warm and cozy, ready for us to relax and enjoy the pristine mountain setting. This cabin has everything anyone could want including a fully stocked spice cabinet. The hosts supplied us with a binder full of restaurant and hiking suggestions. Saturday afternoon we walked to the dog beach, just minutes away from the house. The beds were clean and comfortable, but the best part of this cabin is the giant fireplace and spacious living room kitchen with open floor plan. Everyone can sit together, eat, drink and relax. There is a large deck adjacent to the living room with a hot tub for late night star gazing. This cabin has everything anyone could want for a stay at Lake Tahoe. The location is perfect. We will definitely becoming back!

Owner's Response: We are glad you found everything you needed for a relaxing stay at our cabin. We try to make sure it is fully stocked with spices, professional pots, pans and knives and lots of other cooking utensils and serving platters for your stay. Autumn is a very quiet and tranquil time to visit Lake Tahoe. Our cabin location is that way at all times of the year, but fall offers the colors unique to the season. We love to walk to the lake (Patton Beach) and are thankful our dogs can play there too. Our "Great Room" is incredible and large enough to cook, read, play games, dine and share conversation. Right out the French doors is our new hot tub that we hope all our guests enjoy as much as we do. The privacy of our home's location is always appreciated. We hope you choose to be our guests again and we are grateful for your kind words.

Our home is located close to any activity you might want in the Lake Tahoe region, yet is on a quiet flat street with no power lines so you really feel like you are in the woods. Our location allows you to avoid the crazy crowds thronging the casinos of the south shore. We are also far enough away from busier Tahoe City (7 miles) that you will truly feel you are in the mountains. But if you want a nice dinner on the lake or to rent a boat, you will not have far to go. You can even avoid going through Tahoe City to arrive at our home by going through Kings Beach. In the winter, downhill skiing is available at more than 10 ski areas within 40 minutes with Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows, and Northstar less than 20 minutes away. In the summer, a hike up the hill or a short drive takes you to the Tahoe Rim Trail. Other trails and wilderness are also easily accessible. A large network of trails for mountain biking are right out our door. Enjoy the north shore of Lake Tahoe!
