The commune is part of the Basque province of Labourd and is located on the Franco-Spanish border and at the main crossing point between the two countries in the western Pyrenees.
Its northern limit opening on the Silver Coast of the Atlantic is bordered by the bay of Figuier and the bay of Lohia in the Bay of Biscay. It is bathed to the west by the bay of Txingudi (estuary of the Bidassoa) which separates it from Spain (comarque of Low Bidassoa: Irun and Fontarrabie).
Hendaye offers its visitors the longest beach of the Basque Coast (3.5 km), the castle of Abbadia and the domain of the same name. It is also a fishing port.
