Park Point House Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, 3 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 6)

'Cottage on the Point' is located on Lake Superior's grand Park Point beach with five miles of extraordinary sand. This historic home, built in the late 1880's, rumored to be a hunting lodge, is now completely restored. Remodeled and redecorated it is full of old Duluth charm and modern conveniences. The cottage is licensed as a vacation rental by the city of Duluth-permit #PL13-019

The cottage is three miles from the world famous aerial lift bridge and Canal Park activities. It is one and a half miles from the Park Point recreation area with sailing and boat launch facilities. The cottage is located in a residential neighborhood, with private beach access. Step back to a time when the pace was slower and relax in your own private beach cottage.

Park Point offers many wonderful activities and we are prepared to help you enjoy it with four kayaks, one aluminum canoe, two adult life vests and beach mats and towels. Come prepared to enjoy the sun, but if it should rain, you can enjoy the supply of videos, DVD's, games and books perfect for a relaxing vacation.

Don't miss a chance to rent this extraordinary home at a price below the cost of a hotel room or conduminum rental. You can have it all - three large bedrooms, large living room / great hall with gas fireplace, dining room, kitchen, laundry room, front porch, back porch, gas grill and of course the beach - all located in quiet neighborhood. It is the best Duluth has to offer and it is away from the crowds that are found at lakeside hotels and condumiums.

EXTRA BONUS: If you like psychological suspense novels, check out books by award winning author Brian Freeman (bfreemanbooks). Our historic beach cottage is featured in Freeman's third and fourth novels, featuring Jonathan Stride and Serena Dial. The forward reads: 'Much of this novel was conceived and researched in a rental cottage on Park Point in Duluth that bears suspicious similarity to the home now owned by Stride and Serena. Your can actually stay there yourself, or tour the home at cottageonthepoint.' Or just send in a VRBO inquiry now for your dates and see if you can enjoy this historic cottage for your vacation. Please note that this is a peaceful residential neighborhood. Loud parties and excessive drinking or substance use are not welcome.

About Pat Burns

The cottage was purchased as a personal residence. We converted it to a rental in 2005 and continue to give it the loving care it deserves. It is inspected and licensed as a vacation rental, meeting all requirements for your safety, health and comfort. Bill is a lifelong Duluthian and knows this area and the community extremely well. He is a great resource for information on this area as well as, the north shore, BWCA, and the Quetico. We love this area for the beauty and all the activites we enjoy - skiing, kayaking, biking, paddling and wilderness camping.

Pat Burns purchased this house in 1995

Why Pat Burns chose Duluth

We both love Park Point, and live next to the cottage. The beach is peaceful and very quiet. At times we are the only people in our area down there. It is in a residential area and not near public beach areas. The beauty and serenity are so soulful and breathtaking. It is a great place for renewing one's spirit.

What makes this house unique

The cottage is loaded with old world charm - from the carved mahogany pillars to the built in china cabinet and reading nooks by the fireplace. It simply forces a slower pace. The front porch catches cool breezes and a great place to start the morning with a cup of coffee and a good book, while the back porch and deck are perfect as enclosed play area and a relaxing place to grill dinner. We provide four kayaks for use by our guests that allows a paddle on Lake Superior to explore the beauty of the lake. All to give an unforgettable experience and vacation needed in this fast paced world.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Everything here is so comfortable and well thought out. I particularly liked the built in reading nooks near the fireplace. After years of renting homes around the midwest I would rank this amoung the best and look forward to a return trip this summer. Thank you for a restful break. The skiing at Spirit Mountain was good.

Very family friendly

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed with our 2 1/2 year old for three nights at the cottage. Having a toddler with a lot of food allergies make vacations tough. At the cottage, we have a HUGE and comfortable kitchen to make his meals and then walk to the beach to have fun. Pat is a great host and I would recommend the Beach Cottage to anyone.

Spectacular spot in beautiful Park Point, Duluth

  • 5 of 5

This is a character home built sometime in the 1880's that is in truly spectacular condition. This would be a great place for a family or a small groups (2 or 3 couples) as there are 3 bedrooms. There is also a huge living room area, dining room, large kitchen, laundry facilities, massive front porch, large rear porch and even a barbecue. The condition is immaculate, and the cleanliness was beyond reproach. Through the rear of the house is a path through the main house that is on the sandy beach shore of Lake Superior. The front of the home is on a long main residential street with Lake Superior frontage at the rear of those homes as well. A short walk takes you by a sailing club and you can see the lights of Duluth/Superior on the bay. A really nice, safe neighborhood.

Any downsides are minor. There is one bathroom and shower. It was quite cool our last night and we couldn't get the radiators working. Given how professional and courteous Pat was, I'm sure this has already been resolved.

Pat is a fabulous host. Helpful when needed, but never intrusive.

I highly recommend this vacation rental. I also highly recommend Duluth and the surrounding area. Very friendly people, Bob Dylan's boyhood home and spectacular scenery surrounding the city. Very minimal traffic and stress. We had a truly relaxing stay

A comfortable 19th century cottage conveniently located

  • 5 of 5

Park Point is a well maintained, clean and nicely furnished cottage (19th century home) located just over the dunes from beautiful Lake Superior. The owners live directly behind the cottage and are available if needed and friendly. My family enjoyed a week of vacation and if we should ever return to Duluth or the region, we would stay here again. Our only complaint is that the owners furnish four kayaks and a canoe, which is great, but provide only two life jackets. For a family two is insufficient. We ended up purchasing an additional two. But overall, I rate Park Point as excellent!

Owner's Response: We are so glad these guests enjoyed the kayaks and paddling on Lake Superior. We are a unique property that allows our guests to use our personal single person recreational kayaks at no extra charge. We also provide 2 regular sized adult life vests but because of liability, safety and size issues and the number of life vests we would need to stock and store in order to meet the size variations from child to extra large adult sizes, we have decided to stop at providing just two medium adult vests. We do inform our guests that if they have other size needs or need additional vests it is something they will have to provide. Our main focus is on providing clean and comfortable lodging and it is not to be a recreational provider.

Amazing, amazing, amazing! Perfect place for a family. We loved swimming and walking the beach. The place was so clean and charming. We loved watching their family movies, playing their games, and exploring Duluth. Mom even got to take a few runs down to the point and back! The front porch is a wonderful place to watch the sun set. Our vacation was perfect:)

Ideal beach vacation for our young family

  • 5 of 5

We had a great experience at the cottage. There was plenty of room for our family of five. We spent most of our time at the beach and enjoyed the kayaks as well as the beach toys, towels, etc. It was so nice that we didn't need to haul all of the gear from home! After a long day in the sun it was nice to just walk over the dune and be "home" where we could get the kids in the tub and turn on the grill for dinner. I only wish we could have stayed longer!
