Overview

Duluth House Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, 3 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 6)

'Cottage on the Point' is located on Lake Superior's grand Park Point beach with five miles of extraordinary sand. This historic home, built in the late 1880's, rumored to be a hunting lodge, is now completely restored. Remodeled and redecorated it is full of old Duluth charm and modern conveniences. The cottage is licensed as a vacation rental by the city of Duluth-permit #PL13-019

The cottage is three miles from the world famous aerial lift bridge and Canal Park activities. It is one and a half miles from the Park Point recreation area with sailing and boat launch facilities. The cottage is located in a residential neighborhood, with private beach access. Step back to a time when the pace was slower and relax in your own private beach cottage.

Park Point offers many wonderful activities and we are prepared to help you enjoy it with four kayaks, one aluminum canoe, two adult life vests and beach mats and towels. Come prepared to enjoy the sun, but if it should rain, you can enjoy the supply of videos, DVD's, games and books perfect for a relaxing vacation.

Don't miss a chance to rent this extraordinary home at a price below the cost of a hotel room or conduminum rental. You can have it all - three large bedrooms, large living room / great hall with gas fireplace, dining room, kitchen, laundry room, front porch, back porch, gas grill and of course the beach - all located in quiet neighborhood. It is the best Duluth has to offer and it is away from the crowds that are found at lakeside hotels and condumiums.

EXTRA BONUS: If you like psychological suspense novels, check out books by award winning author Brian Freeman (bfreemanbooks). Our historic beach cottage is featured in Freeman's third and fourth novels, featuring Jonathan Stride and Serena Dial. The forward reads: 'Much of this novel was conceived and researched in a rental cottage on Park Point in Duluth that bears suspicious similarity to the home now owned by Stride and Serena. Your can actually stay there yourself, or tour the home at cottageonthepoint.' Or just send in a VRBO inquiry now for your dates and see if you can enjoy this historic cottage for your vacation. Please note that this is a peaceful residential neighborhood. Loud parties and excessive drinking or substance use are not welcome.

About Pat Burns

The cottage was purchased as a personal residence. We converted it to a rental in 2005 and continue to give it the loving care it deserves. It is inspected and licensed as a vacation rental, meeting all requirements for your safety, health and comfort. Bill is a lifelong Duluthian and knows this area and the community extremely well. He is a great resource for information on this area as well as, the north shore, BWCA, and the Quetico. We love this area for the beauty and all the activites we enjoy - skiing, kayaking, biking, paddling and wilderness camping.

Pat Burns purchased this house in 1995

Why Pat Burns chose Duluth

We both love Park Point, and live next to the cottage. The beach is peaceful and very quiet. At times we are the only people in our area down there. It is in a residential area and not near public beach areas. The beauty and serenity are so soulful and breathtaking. It is a great place for renewing one's spirit.

What makes this house unique

The cottage is loaded with old world charm - from the carved mahogany pillars to the built in china cabinet and reading nooks by the fireplace. It simply forces a slower pace. The front porch catches cool breezes and a great place to start the morning with a cup of coffee and a good book, while the back porch and deck are perfect as enclosed play area and a relaxing place to grill dinner. We provide four kayaks for use by our guests that allows a paddle on Lake Superior to explore the beauty of the lake. All to give an unforgettable experience and vacation needed in this fast paced world.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Everything here is so comfortable and well thought out. I particularly liked the built in reading nooks near the fireplace. After years of renting homes around the midwest I would rank this amoung the best and look forward to a return trip this summer. Thank you for a restful break. The skiing at Spirit Mountain was good.

Very family friendly

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed with our 2 1/2 year old for three nights at the cottage. Having a toddler with a lot of food allergies make vacations tough. At the cottage, we have a HUGE and comfortable kitchen to make his meals and then walk to the beach to have fun. Pat is a great host and I would recommend the Beach Cottage to anyone.

Perfect getaway

  • 5 of 5

We stayed 2 nights at this beautiful cottage with our two young adult children and their spouses. The temp in Duluth was below zero all weekend, and I was happy to never leave the warm, cozy house. We read and played games round the fire, and cooked great meals in the kitchen. The large dining room table was great for feasts and games. I would love to return in the summer to enjoy the lovely surroundings and use the kayaks!

The house was extremely clean, the towels luxurious, and the kitchen well-appointed. I can see why other reviewers said the space was great for kids, but it was great for all adults too! Only drawback for 3 couples- the 3rd bedroom has twin beds, but that is probably preferable for kids! We knew to expect that from the photos on the website, and it was not a problem. I would love to go back again!

Best kept secret in Duluth

  • 5 of 5

Excellent place, more than met our expectations. Comfortable feeling, fully stocked with top rated items. Don't let the one bathroom stop you from renting this historic cabin. Clean and well maintained. Path to Lake Superior was easy, exciting to see the icebergs which had formed and blown into shore. Loads of restaurants at Canal Park before you cross the Ariel Bridge. I will recommend this property to friends and relatives.

A beautiful, well kept, charming home with ALL the amenities. Lake Superior at its BEST.

  • 5 of 5

A wonderful vacation for my family, and great meeting place for extended family and friends. Huge living area, large kitchen and dinning room with beautiful huge windows and lots of charm. Very well equipped, and thoughtful extras from soaps to towels to books, videos and toys. Just steps away from Lake Superior with all its beauty and intensity. Thank you for a great visit back to Duluth, my home of 30 years where the kids grew up, and love to come back to visit.

Great house in a great location!

  • 5 of 5

I stayed in the house with my husband, mother and father-in-law, grandmother-in-law, and brother-in-law. The house was absolutely fantastic! It was very roomy, clean, and had everything we needed for a relaxing stay. The owner met us when we first arrived to greet us but then left us to enjoy each other's company. She was very open to us stopping by if we had any questions or needed anything (although we had no reason to do that). We enjoyed hanging out on the porch, walking on the beach, and, when it got cold out, hanging out in the comfortable living room. The bedrooms were a good size and the beds were comfortable. It's also very close to the Canal Park area and you could easily walk or ride a bike down to that area if you didn't want to drive. The only slight drawback is that there is only one bathroom so when you have 6 people sharing it was a little cumbersome. However, I would not let that be a deterrent from staying here again. If/when I return to Duluth, this is where I want to stay!
