Overview

About the property

3 bedroom 1 bath sleeps 8

Serenitys Nest now has GLOW IN THE DARK FLOORS AND COUNTERS as it suffered a frozen water pipe in Feb of 2015, the entire lower floor was damaged and now replaced with a one of a kind UNIQUE GLOW IN THE DARK FLOOR AND COUNTERS . At night when all the lights are out the floor glows with artful stones creating a very special atmosphere. Serenity's Nest was named for the beauty and serenity I felt when I first visited. On the front porch are at least 5 undisturbed birds nest that yearly have new arrivals and can be viewed from the couch in the front room. In spring feedings may be viewed. I have viewed beavers, deer, raccoons so many different birds, including the Blue Herring, chipmunks, squirrels, and of course the fish that jump from the river and occasionally a turtle is spotted. This cabin is a great place to bring your family for a great peaceful vacation, but yet close to the many activities that Houghton Lake area offers. Fishing from the rivers edge can be great fun for the whole family, the evening campfire can be a relaxing way to end your day, or enjoy a late night snack, a hot dog (Koegles Vienna best in MI) or maybe a smore. Come and enjoy your home away from home at Serenity's Nest.

Recreation.: Houghton Lake offers many activities. Lots of shopping, a movie theater ,boat and skido rentals available. There is a state boat launch and room to park your boat at the cabin. Merritt Speedway just minutes from the cabin. Lake City 15 miles from the cabin.

Totally awesome cabin

We loved this place. So much better than a hotel. I would stay over and over. Clean, and heat.

I liked it, my husband did not.

  • 3 of 5

I didn't realize that not only did we not have wifi, we did not have cell service either. My husband was not prepared to come "unplugged". All his reading and entertainment was on line and he didn't bring a book. Also, our kids were at home and we had to go out of the house to hear from them. Not a good fit. We left a day early and only stayed one night. I kind of liked the decor and uniqueness of the house, but my husband thought the decor was hiding a not so nice little shack that he had to turn sideways in to get up the stairs to the bedroom. (He's not fat, just broad shoulders.) I wish we could give it rave reviews like some other places we've stayed, but it was not a good fit for us. However, I did love the back swing in the morning listening to the birds, frogs, and dogs. Peaceful! Mixed feelings on this one!!

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to post your opinion of the cabin . It does not have Wi-fi and it does let you know that in the amenities , some phone services work, and some do not, it is out of town! I have AT&T and have full service anywhere in the cabin . An A-frame diffinatly has slanted walls, and they are visible in the photo's, that's the construction of an A-frame! I don't know the construction of a shack but the cabin is very sturdy! I'm sorry your husbands broad shoulders caused him to turn sideways getting to the upstairs bedrooms. Thank you for your review, the cabin is a unique rustic creation that offers a peaceful retreat to those that visit. Thank you , Wendy

Beautiful and peaceful!

  • 5 of 5

Serenity's Nest was the perfect getaway for our family! It was so peaceful and the cabin is a true work of art. Everything was thoughtfully made and beautiful. The roof, the floor, the handmade furniture, the vintage stove, the tub... all amazing! We were there with our two-year-old and 4 month old and as soon as we arrived I told my husband I'd love to return in future years. The creek and Surrounding outdoor area are perfect for little ones. This is very nit picky, but the only thing I would change is providing recommendations of where one should take their garbage if they want to clean the cabin themselves to retain the security deposit. With two babies, we had two bags of smelly garbage that we couldn't drive six hours home with us so we left it and opted not to clean ourselves. That small thing aside, we loved everything about Serenity's Nest and found it to be such a peaceful getaway from everyday life.

Owner's Response: Thank you Lisa for your kind words! I'm glad your family enjoyed your stay! I will take into consideration your recommendation for the garbage removal service. I do understand that not all vehicles are accommodating for that. Thank you for choosing Serenitys Nest, Wendy

Lovely, unique and quiet

  • 5 of 5

We booked a stay to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary and it did not disappoint! I loved the decor! The vintage stove was a treat and the glow in the dark floors were so fun! But by far my favorite was the outdoor tub. I had a bath every night while staring at the stars. Just beautiful.

We brought our kids as well, and they are 5 & 8. Even though it was cool during our visit. The cabin was warm and the river and surrounding areas kept us all happy.

Thank you!

Owner's Response: Thank you for all your kind words, the tub is my favorite as well! It allows an awesome atmosphere to the ultimate relaxation, I can stay in it for hours just adding more hot water, and of course another glass of wine! This year the roof art was added , and will soon be complete. I'll post pics when it's complete. Thanks for choosing Serenitys Nest for your anniversary getaway! Wendy

Very "eclectic" & cool.

  • 5 of 5

You must sit in different areas of the house inside & outside. Take the time to look around you. There are many pieces of rustic art work. The wind chime along the river has a wonderful tonal quality. Don't forget to read one of the chimes also. The bed in the master bedroom was very comfy and adjoining balcony with soaking tub 🛀 was a nice touch. You will not need a flashlight to find your way @ night. The "artsy" floor has an irrodecent path to lead you around safely. I was hoping this section of the Muskegon would have some brook trout? Alas, only creek chubs. But they still rise to a dry fly. All in all a very enchanting "fairy tale" cottage. We will definitely be back.
