“…We were blessed to have been able to spend this time in such a special place. It was magical… but more than that it was life-changing. We feel more connected than ever to the beauty of Pt Reyes and to the simple harmony of life that your home and its glorious setting helped us to find once again. Thank you again for all the spirit you put into your home and for your willingness to share it with others.”
“…We were searching for a quiet place to rest and your home was a lovely choice. We especially enjoyed the seamless way the fresh air, light and valley view filled the interior space.”

Patty bought the property in Point Reyes in 1989. She felt like the luckiest person in the world. While two jobs she spent late nights imagining her 'dream house'; she had never designed anything. After two years reading about design, principles of kitchen flow, Japanese gardening, and energy efficiency, she presented her plans to a local designer-builder. The home was completed in 1992. The Southwest orientation maximizes views and solar passive energy. The street side remains private with few windows. Two large bedroom suites placed at opposite wings of the home optimizes the view and privacy for all occupants. The central common area is unifying. The open kitchen can accommodate many working simultaneously. The loft is a great place to get away for a nap. As Patty's nephew uses a wheelchair, she designed the doorways and halls wide and the second bathroom is handicap friendly. The master bath indoor-outdoor design pulls you into the garden. Its wrap-around deck overlooks the wetlands facing westward towards the sunset and Inverness ridge. Most visitors spend their time there relaxing, barbecuing as the sun sets, and watching the carpet of stars as the Milky Way sweeps overhead.

Point Reyes is located approximately 22 miles north of San Francisco, in West Marin. Close enough to drive out to for the day, yet remote and authentically rural.
When I moved to Point Reyes in 1987 to practice Family Medicine, I loved that it had postal boxes where neighbors gathered. I still love how all you need can be found within 4 blocks.
Located on the Point Reyes Mesa across from Inverness Park. Stroll within a private neighborhood, passing a small pond, Cypress groves, and daffodils. We are located one scenic mile north beyond the town of Point Reyes. A favorite day starts with a morning cup of rich coffee and sticky morning buns from the Bovine Bakery, browsing at the Point Reyes Books independent bookstore, and catching the local farmers market in the Summer and Fall at Toby's Feed Barn. Purchase all else at the local Palace market and the Cow Girl Creamery deli replete with local cheese, oven-baked bread, and pick up some local grass fed organic meats at Sun Farms. Or prepare your lunch in our well stocked kitchen before heading out to the Point Reyes National Seashore Headquarters for a full day's hike. The Point Reyes National Seashore contains unique elements of biological and historical interest in a spectacularly scenic panorama of thunderous ocean breakers, open grasslands, bushy hillsides and forested ridges. Drive out to the Lighthouse stopping along the landscape characterized by spectacular shorelines, dairy farms and over 65,000 acres of wilderness protected by the Point Reyes National Seashore. Head home stopping for fresh mussels and oysters from local shellfish Hog Island farms to grill on the barbecue, or select from fine or casual dining options.
From a writer:I meant to leave you a THANK YOU! note, but I was literally working up until the last minute. Thank you so, so much for lending me your lovely home. What a perfect retreat, so many nooks to tuck into and write . . . and so many flat surfaces to spread out on and organize! And the sun, oh the sun. The way you managed to situate the house so that it gets morning, mid-day and afternoon sun is so impressive. I’d love to visit again with my husband and my daughter when she’s a bit older. She’s a girl who gets very absorbed in things and I can see her spending hours with binoculars identifying various water fowl.
We stayed in this beautiful home for 2 weeks (9/12/09-9/26/09) and just had a great time. The pictures of the home don't really do it justice: it is really much bigger than the pictures make it look. The home is very close to the wetlands, and the deck in back is just huge. We have 2 very young children (5 months and 4 years) and the house is very kid-friendly.
The location can't be beat -- you're within an hour of San Francisco, Samuel P. Taylor State Park, Sonoma and the Point Reyes National Seashore. Lots of great hikes and walks in the area, organic farms, oyster farms and more -- tons to do and see. The home is about a mile from town, with lots of lightly-traveled streets leading there -- very walker and runner friendly. We walked to town nearly every day. There is a nice grocery in town as well as several restaurants (Station House Cafe is our favorite), and a playground for the kids.
There's wifi available, a great hot tub and a large barbeque grill on the deck. Tons of privacy -- most windows face the rear of the house overlooking the wetlands. While you are in a residential area, you barely know you have neighbors! Plenty of room to move around for all -- kiddos included.
We had a fun vacation and enjoyed ourselves very much. Patty is a gracious host, and we hope to return next year!
This was our family's fourth stay at this lovely home, it has become a cherished retreat to enjoy the beauty of the well-furnished, welcoming, beautiful home. The view is stunning and the serenity of the location envelopes and nurtures the soul. Of course, we all look forward to sitting on the expansive deck barbequing oysters from Hog Island Oysters, eating glorious cheeses from Cowgirl Creamery and delicious breads from Bovine Bakery, and drinking nice wines. Recent upgrades of appliances adds to the delight of cooking in the very well-stocked kitchen. I highly recommend renting from Patty, we have had absolutely no problems and look forward to our next stay.
We are a group of 6 ladies from the south bay who recently stayed in this home to bike, hike, and enjoy all this spectacular area offers. We were delighted with how clean, comfortable, well stocked and warm (love the radiant heating in the floors) the home was. And we were blown away by the incredible location! This home is extremely private with a jaw dropping deck that overlooks an even changing wetlands. It would have been perfect if the hot tub was still on the deck, but we spent much time out there anyway, enjoying the birds, changing tides, sun rises and sun sets.
I know we are all looking forward to coming back to this wonderful getaway and biking more of the great roads in the area. Thanks for sharing your wonderfull home, Patty!
We're a family of four adults who love the Point Reyes experience; and we found Egret's Overlook the very nicest place we have ever stayed in the area. The house is situated on a gentle bluff overlooking gorgeous wetlands; and the expansive wrap around outdoor deck is an amazing place to watch all variety of birds, the changing tides, and the changing fog. We enjoyed breakfasts outdoors; and we liked using the barbeque grill to make wonderful dinners to enjoy on the very lovely deck. The interior of the house is clean and comfortable and well appointed and interestingly decorated. The kitchen is very well equipped and has modern appliances; and as our family enjoys cooking, we found the kitchen design very accommodating for several people to be working at the same time. The house comfortably can sleep at least 6 people ...perhaps more. The master bath is beautiful with a shower room that brings the outdoors in. There is also a second nice bathroom. Lots of closet and drawer space. A very comfortable living room with ample seating. The dining area is also spacious. Most windows in the house are large allowing in plenty of light and gorgeous views of the wetlands. Also, the house is within walking distance of Point Reyes Station and all that the town has to offer.
We had such a nice time and all because of the great house!
My wife and I wanted to help our daughter and her family escape the rigors of daily living in San Jose and we found this home to be the perfect retreat. We had four adults with an eight year old and a four year old looking for some fun and found Egret's Overlook through VRBO. We hit the wildflowers in Point Reyes in full bloom. We spend low tides watching the numerous birds off the back deck and made good use of the charcoal grill several evenings. The well stocked kitchen was used as we listened to Brubeck and Jamal from the incredible vinyl collection. Thanks, Patti, for a great four nights in Point Reyes.
