About Patty Glatt
Patty bought the property in Point Reyes in 1989. She felt like the luckiest person in the world. While working two jobs she spent late nights imagining her 'dream house'. She had never designed anything. After two years of reading about design, principles of kitchen flow, Japanese gardening, and energy efficiency, she presented her plans to a local designer-builder. The home was completed in 1992. The Southwest orientation maximizes views and solar passive energy. The street side remains private with few windows. Two large bedroom suites placed at opposite wings of the home optimizes the view and privacy for all occupants. The central common area is unifying. The open kitchen can accommodate many working simultaneously. The loft is a great place to get away for a nap. As Patty's nephew uses a wheelchair, she designed the doorways and halls wide and the second bathroom is handicap friendly. The master bath indoor-outdoor design pulls you into the garden. Its wrap-around deck overlooks the wetlands facing westward towards the sunset and Inverness ridge. Most visitors spend their time there relaxing, barbecuing as the sun sets, and watching the carpet of stars as the Milky Way sweeps overhead.

Why Patty Glatt chose Point Reyes Station
Point Reyes is located approximately 22 miles north of San Francisco, in West Marin. Close enough to drive out to for the day, yet remote and authentically rural. When I moved to Point Reyes in 1987 to practice Family Medicine, I loved that it had postal boxes where neighbors gathered. I still love how all you need can be found within 4 blocks.
What makes this House unique
Located on the Point Reyes Mesa across from Inverness Park. Stroll within a private neighborhood, passing a small pond, Cypress groves, and daffodils. We are located one scenic mile north beyond the town of Point Reyes. A favorite day starts with a morning cup of rich coffee and sticky morning buns from the Bovine Bakery, browsing at the Point Reyes Books independent bookstore, and catching the local farmers market in the Summer and Fall at Toby's Feed Barn. Purchase all else at the local Palace market and the Cow Girl Creamery deli replete with local cheese, oven-baked bread, and pick up some local grass fed organic meats at Sun Farms. Or prepare your lunch in our well stocked kitchen before heading out to the Point Reyes National Seashore Headquarters for a full day's hike. The Point Reyes National Seashore contains unique elements of biological and historical interest in a spectacularly scenic panorama of thunderous ocean breakers, open grasslands, bushy hillsides and forested ridges. Drive out to the Lighthouse stopping along the landscape characterized by spectacular shorelines, dairy farms and over 65,000 acres of wilderness protected by the Point Reyes National Seashore. Head home stopping for fresh mussels and oysters from local shellfish Hog Island farms to grill on the barbecue, or select from fine or casual dining options.

We stayed in this beautiful home for 2 weeks (9/12/09-9/26/09) and just had a great time. The pictures of the home don't really do it justice: it is really much bigger than the pictures make it look. The home is very close to the wetlands, and the deck in back is just huge. We have 2 very young children (5 months and 4 years) and the house is very kid-friendly.
The location can't be beat -- you're within an hour of San Francisco, Samuel P. Taylor State Park, Sonoma and the Point Reyes National Seashore. Lots of great hikes and walks in the area, organic farms, oyster farms and more -- tons to do and see. The home is about a mile from town, with lots of lightly-traveled streets leading there -- very walker and runner friendly. We walked to town nearly every day. There is a nice grocery in town as well as several restaurants (Station House Cafe is our favorite), and a playground for the kids.
There's wifi available, a great hot tub and a large barbeque grill on the deck. Tons of privacy -- most windows face the rear of the house overlooking the wetlands. While you are in a residential area, you barely know you have neighbors! Plenty of room to move around for all -- kiddos included.
We had a fun vacation and enjoyed ourselves very much. Patty is a gracious host, and we hope to return next year!
The large deck was built to wrap around the entire backside of the house, which now faces the new Giacomini Wetlands. The hogwire fencing on the deck prevents small children's hands and parts from slipping, while allowing maximal view sights. You can spend hours watching the tide shift, birds drift on swells of draft, and relax knowing your kids are safe. A great house for families of ALL ages. Location! Location! Location! You won't find a better home for the value with this location.
Beautiful and peaceful
The location is truly extraordinary. The views of the marshes and tidal flats of Tomales Bay were beautiful and mesmerizing day and night (there was a glorious full moon for part of our stay). The house itself is spacious and comfortable with large bedrooms and common spaces. The deck is large and the view is just amazing. The town of Point Reyes Station is a pleasant walk or a short drive away and offers a good grocery store, a fantastic book store, a fine bakery, and several very nice restaurants, as well as other shops and services. The entire area is, of course, spectacularly beautiful. All the trails and beaches of the Point Reyes National Seashore are nearby, readily accessible. We spent some days on long hikes and some days reading and relaxing at the house - all just fabulous.
This is a wonderful place for a brief getaway or an extended stay. We were there for 12 days and were sad to leave.
DO NOT RENT THIS HOUSE
To those looking to rent a house in pt. reyes I would recommend the following - rent in inverness or out by nick's cove. This was one of the most unenjoyable experiences I have had and here is why.
-The neighbor is incredibly annoying.
-The pt. reyes oyster company did not allow for parking on the road and therefore we brought oysters back to the house with 4, read "4" extra people to enjoy oysters on the deck. Every hour on the hour, the neighbor came by, knocked on the door, told us to keep it down and then proceeded to call the owner. Keep in mind, these are professionals between the ages of 34-38 enjoying a saturday on a deck they are paying for.
-DO NOT even think about playing music after 5pm as the neighbor continued to text the owner that their was a "raging party" going on. Keep in mind...6 people.
Other issues with the house
-splinters on the deck...make sure to wear boots (not shoes)
-deck railing has rotted through (I'm a carpenter by trade) so if you have kids, I wouldn't let them go on the deck
-kitchen sink doesn't drain...we had to go buy draino...still didn't train
-did i mention the neighbor
-The owner will charge you for extra people and extra sheets without asking - BEWARE!!! extra $100
-It is not close to town as advertised
And the kicker...
-we cleaned the house and left it in better shape then when we arrived, took pictures of every room (i've seen this game played before) and the owner emails me to tell me that they are not giving me my full deposit back.
GO ANYWHERE BUT HERE
I do not allow parties. This is fully disclosed in my listing. All charges are disclosed before a guest submits for approval. He disclosed only 6 guests, but had an unapproved party and 7 cars at our property. I learned of this when my neighbor called to complain to me about the disturbance with a photo. I charged him an additional $50 for the additional cleaning required for the wood living room and kitchen floors, windows, and rugs resulting from soilage from his party. While I would have been justified in retaining his full $350 security deposit but didn't, he objected to this cleaning charge and left this review, and called my cleaning staff liars. After the fact he contested the charges he approved for additional linens, which were disclosed at the time he approved payment.
I anticipated a bad review but I honestly couldn't stomach letting him bully me. It is clear from other reviews that I haven't shafted guests on their deposits.
The house was very comfortable and cozy. It was so beautiful and peaceful to be on the water
If you want to be surrounded by nature, this is the place for you! It’s perfectly serene, nestled right on the water, and only a few minutes from the sweetest small town, Point Reyes Station. I highly recommend this home away from home.
We had a wonderful stay. The location of the home is beautiful and gave us the connection to nature that we needed. We saw deer, fox, raccoons, and lots of birds. Love the bakery, grocery store and bookstore in town too!
Communication with the host was responsive, easy and comfortable :))
Everything was perfect! We spent each morning and early evening relaxing on the deck watching the tides and wildlife. The kitchen was well stocked and the bedrooms and baths were clean and comfortable. We enjoyed 2 nights of live music right in Point Reyes Station and great hiking nearby. Thank you Patti.
