4 bedroom converted farmhouse on a peaceful hilltop
Chez Vignaud is a lovingly converted 4 bedroom farmhouse with lots of rural French charm, plenty of space and all modern comforts. It is the perfect choice for family holidays, friends sharing or couples wanting to get away from it all. The house is less than 10 minutes from Ribérac with its famous weekly market and wide range of shops, restaurants, sports and cultural facilities.
The farmhouse has been converted to retain many original character features such as solid timber beams, open fireplaces and the thick stone walls that keep it beautifully cool indoors when the weather heats up outside. The private sunny garden has a shady eating area and wide unspoiled views of the lovely Dordogne countryside.
The large lounge has the original ceiling beams, thick stone walls and French doors to the garden. Generous sofas, TV (main English satellite channels) and DVD player. The second smaller living room has a sofa, writing table and chair, radio/CD/MP3 player and piano.
The spacious farmhouse kitchen has a large table seating 8, double oven, ceramic hob, dishwasher, microwave. The stable door opens onto the garden. The adjoining utility room has a washing machine, large fridge, separate freezer, ironing board and iron.
Bedroom 1 has a large king size bed; Bedroom 2 has a four-poster double bed. Bedroom 3 has a double bed and en suite shower room. Bedroom 4 opens off Bedroom 1 and has two single beds, and is thus ideal for children.
The family bathroom has jacuzzi bath, separate shower, wc, and washbasin.
The garden is entirely private. It is flat and on two levels separated by 4 stone steps. The garden faces southwest and enjoys sunshine all day long, with a shady eating area under the old lime tree which is perfect for enjoying the view at any time of day. Garden furniture and a barbecue are provided.
A path leads from the garden downhill to a 'wilderness' area with a trampoline that is always popular with younger visitors.
The price includes bath and hand towels and freshly laundered bed linen. The house is fully cleaned before each arrival, and also weekly during longer stays if desired.
Delicious freshly prepared meals can be delivered by request.

Generally very comfortable but a few more creatureComforts would have been nice
Bedrooms were comfortable. Kitchen and living room were great. We missed not having any Wifi or telephone signal. Third bedroom shower was not plumbed in. We found the second bedroom to be the most cosy for us. Although, as it rained terribly all week, we discovered a leak through the roof into the second bedroom on day 6. It will need repairing. However, overall very relaxed and we were able to write a lot.
Thank you for your review.
I don't advertise the house as having WiFi, but there is a mobile phone signal (though it moves around sometimes!)
You're incorrect about the third bedroom shower. It is fully plumbed in, and both we and our guests have been using it all year. The controls are possibly less obvious than on some showers, so I'm sorry you weren't able to figure them out.
Thank you for flagging up the leak! The roof is inspected every spring and autumn, but the storms in the Dordogne are very powerful and tiles do get blown off regularly, so it's helpful when guests let me know when this appears to have happened.
I'm glad you had a relaxing stay, because we believe the house and location are ideal for just that.
The Dordogne is renowned for its beautiful countryside, with huge fields of sunflowers and corn interspersed with woodland, and yellow stone houses with terracotta tiled roofs nestling on hillsides. Ribérac itself is a pretty little town whose Friday morning market is one of the largest in the Dordogne and definitely not to be missed. There is a range of local restaurants to suit all tastes. There are weekly open-air concerts throughout the summer, and even open-air cinema. There are many excellent sports and leisure facilities within 20 minutes' drive - swimming from river beaches, in lakes and public pools, canoeing, horse riding, cycle hire, golf and mini-golf. Or go further afield and discover the many cultural offerings ranging from fabulous castles and gardens, to prehistoric caves with wall paintings and stalactites, all within an hour or two's drive. The hillside village of Aubeterre(one of the Most Beautiful Villages in France) is just 20 minutes away. Brantome (the Venice of the Dordogne) is under 40 minutes' drive. Périgueux is 40 minutes (lovely medieval town with narrow streets and cathedral), and St. Emilion 60 minutes (outstandingly beautiful town in wine growing region, UNESCO world heritage site). Bordeaux is just 90 minutes' drive (lovely city with great shops and stunning riverside architecture, also a UNESCO heritage site).
