About Jennie Pinto

Sea Shell Sanctuary is our home in the USA. We are residents of the UK, coming to the States when possible. We enjoy bird watching, wildlife viewing, canoeing, bicycling and found the perfect home to do all. Across the street from Osprey Cove, we are able to watch the REAL Florida from our balcony, golf cart or bicycle into town, enjoy the historic downtown, and be home in time for tea.

Jennie Pinto purchased this house in 2007

Why Jennie Pinto chose Cedar Key

Cedar Key is home to Cedar Keys National Wildlife Refuge; the Refuge consists of 13 islands ranging in size from 1 to 120 acres, totaling 762 acres. We kayak to many and enjoy viewing the wading birds, shorebirds, fish, manatees, bald eagles, ospreys, crabs, and even some reptiles.

When not wildlife watching, we enjoy bicycle riding. With the entire island of Cedar Key being .91 sq. mile (2.35 sq. km), we can ride anywhere within 20 minutes.

What makes this house unique

Cedar Key is 60 miles (96.5 km) WSW of Gainesville Florida, 2.5 hours north of Tampa, and a 3 hour drive from Orlando. Close enough for a day trip to all the Florida 'attractions', yet far enough to experience the true nature of Florida. There are no high rises, no congestion, no traffic jams; there are friendly locals, locally owned and managed shops and art galleries, yet no chain restaurants nor chain stores. We are able to savour life, take a deep breath, remember how life is supposed to be.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We have been to Cedar Key dozens of times and can say this was the best and most relaxing - as the sign reads in the master bedroom - "Just another day in paradise " We feel rejuvinated.

Truly a (Seashell) Sanctuary away from the world!

  • 5 of 5

Comfortable, quiet, scenic location. House was very nice and cozy. Big porch to hang out on. Great neighbors and neighborhood. Great restaurants with lots of local seafood. A great week's stay all around!

Great location to unplug

  • 4 of 5

The location of the house was quiet, the view was great but the bugs were pretty bad even with repellent. The downtown area is fun, the restaurants had a friendly atmosphere and an awesome place to watch the sunset. Overall this is a great place to shut your phones off and just relax.

Owner's Response: Glad you enjoyed your stay. Sorry about the bugs, we just can't do much about that. We do have those mosquito net curtains so you can close the porch and enjoy the breezes with some protection. Come back again, a time when we have less bugs, in cooler months.

Wonderful little island

  • 5 of 5

We had such a great time on Cedar Key. The house was very cozy and perfect for us. It is on a quiet street with a great porch where you have a great view of the marsh area. Everything we could need was at the house. I would recommend into anyone. Can't wait to go back

The home was nice. There were incidentals that made our stay less than perfect.

  • 3 of 5

All the beds were uncomfortable, the refrigerator is not cold enough, the towels even after washing did not have a good smell . They smelled like mildew. One bathroom toilet kept running.

Owner's Response: We have replaced the refrigerator, and we have now replaced the towels. While we were replacing appliances, we also got a new dryer. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Great trip

  • 4 of 5

The house was a blast! Great view, the bikes need some TLC but we rode the golf cart everywhere. The kayaks were fun, minus the 30 mph wind, & the house had everything we needed.

Margery St. Cedar Key, Florida

  • 5 of 5

This was our first two week vacation. We wanted to visit a place that was off the beaten path and we found it. Cedar Key is a quiet old Florida small town. Fishing, kayaking, boating, guided island tours are some of the activities we enjoyed. Tidewater Tours excursions and Denny Voyles airboat and fishing charters were informative and overall great experiences. We explored the island in a golf cart and on foot and we're never concerned about heavy traffic. Our two dogs enjoyed morning and evening walks. Wildlife is abundant on Cedar Key and some of the nearby keys. We saw Osprey, eagles, white pelicans, oyster catchers, cormorants, herons, egrets and many others. The house was perfect for our needs. Kitchen was well appointed and clean. Washer/dryer was very helpful. Open living/dining area was comfortable. Setting is very private. The golf cart was a great value and we used it to explore the island. The real estate agent, Jennie Pinto was very accommodating. Island residents were welcoming and cordial, Southern hospitality at its best. Thank you for helping to make this a great vacation.
