Idyllwild Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4-6)

Especially in the late winter and early spring, the sound of rushing water is the first thing to greet you when you step out of your car in front of the cabin.

The warmth of a huge fireplace, the view from floor to ceiling windows to enjoy the forest scene, and the sound of the creek -- it doesn't get much better.

Note: We are located in Fern Valley, Idyllwild's upscale neighborhood just one mile from cabin door to center of town. Pine Cove is not within walkable distance to Idyllwild, so if you want to take advantage of all this quaint town has to offer, yet still experience a quiet setting, Idyllwild is the place to be. We have a fabulous location with great flat access; Town center is an easy walk with shops, restaurants, and museum along the way -- and right on the creek -- a rare find in vacation cabins.

There's lots of great cabins in Idyllwild -- but very few offer our unique creekside setting. Combine that with the luxury of being well set back from the road (another Idyllwild rarity) and privacy from neighbors, and you've really got something special.

White Horse offers a peaceful mountain retreat, one hour from North San Diego County. Huge, inviting fireplace, woodsy setting on the water, and a great deck to take it all in. The view from the small dining table overlooks our deck and beyond to the creek's rocks and small waterfalls. On a quiet day, it's not uncommon to see deer strolling down the creekbed. The cabin's wood interior and huge fireplace provide the expected mountain ambiance, yet this home provides all the modern conveniences. Whether used as a romantic honeymoon venue, a fun-filled family retreat, or just a cozy cabin getaway, this place is special.

This classic mountain cabin occupies over a half acre of fenced horse facilities, making this a very unique property. And yes, there really is a white horse at White Horse Cabin (30-year-old Stanlee, but he belongs to the owners and only visits when they are in residence!) However, guests with and without horses will enjoy the home's unique privacy, yet close proximity to all that Idyllwild has to offer.

This home is much loved and used by its owners, thus providing our guests an instant feeling of 'home' instead of 'rental.' Idyllwild is a very special place, with an atmosphere that is getting very hard to find in Southern California. Guest comments routinely remark on our home's ambiance, privacy, huge deck and creekside setting.

This is a very family-friendly town, where kids can paint and fire ceramics at a local shop, attend fun/educational events at the County's Nature Center just outside of town, visit the skate park, or explore the creek right outside your back door at White Horse. Mom and dad can enjoy fine or casual dining, see a first-run movie, listen to live music any night of the week, or check out the Idyllwild museum showcasing the area's rich cattle country/mining heritage.

About Kathy Styles

We wanted a close-by retreat from our North San Diego County Home--someplace we could enjoy ourselves, plus share with others.

Kathy Styles purchased this cabin in 2003

Why Kathy Styles chose Idyllwild

We searched for mountain horse property for a long time--it's rare in Idyllwild. The size of the lot, plus the fabulous creek setting was irresistable!

What makes this cabin unique

White Horse Cabin has that location, location, location wow factor. The woods, the water, the classic A-frame cabin. After a few quiet moments on that deck overlooking the water, picturing our horses content in the big shaded paddock out front--we were hooked.

Relaxing girls getaway

  • 5 of 5

The property was just perfect. Very relaxing. We love the little mountain town. We are getting older and did not go up the steep stairs and shared the down stairs bed. Loved the bear rug. We had to giggle over the 8-track tape player. We knew what it was!!

Clean and cozy

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four enjoyed our getaway at White Horse Cabin. It is a cute little A frame tucked back from the road with lots of beautiful pine trees and a huge deck. The home was clean, comfortable and supplied all the necessities; clean towels, sheets, blankets, dish soap, kitchen supplies, toilet paper and paper towels. The 70's décor was entertaining and fun and the large wood fireplace was fantastic. The location is great, just about a mile outside of town and a short drive to Humber Park and the beautiful Scenic trail. My son forgot something and the owner has been more than kind in assisting us in getting it returned. Would stay again!

Cozy and comfortable

  • 5 of 5

We decided to go to Idyllwild last minute, and one of the reasons we chose this place was the prompt reply we received from the owner. Our son, who lives in NYC, was seeking NATURE, and this place delivered! The cabin was nestled in the pine trees, very quiet...the only sounds we heard were squirrels and birds. One night, we even saw a family of raccoons on the neighbors' porch. Unfortunately, due to our California drought, the creek was dried up, so we didn't see the creek or hear the sounds of running water. You could walk to town, but it's a mile walk. Because it was so hot when we went, we chose to drive! My son and husband found good hiking trails a mile away in the mountains (in the opposite direction). I chose to stay at the cabin and drink my coffee on the deck. :-)

Owner's Response: So glad you enjoyed your stay. We are all lamenting the loss of our creek this summer!!! Hoping for lots of rain and snow this fall/winter to get us back to normal! Thanks, Kathy

Great little get away in beautiful surroundings

  • 4 of 5

Loved our stay here. It was a perfect location and so peaceful. Sitting out on the deck at night with the view of the stars was amazing. The dogs loved it too once they got used to walking on the deck. Booking was very easy and the owner got back to us right away. Had all amenities we needed (except for a cheese grater, which may have been there somewhere but we couldn't find it). The main bed was very comfortable but the pull out couch, not so much. The old record player added a nice touch. Two little setbacks were that three of the chairs on the outside deck were broken and the deck itself was a little worn with nails protruding in places which was a little concerning with having the dogs with us. This did not take away the beauty of the place though. We totally enjoyed our stay and would recommend to friends and family.

Owner's Response: Thanks for taking the time to review and point out things that may need improvement. I was a little surprised about the sofabed issue as your reservation stated only 2 adults would be staying, and we have a very comfortable Queen mattress in the master and equally comfortable twin mattresses in the loft. I always caution people the sofabed is suitable for children but not very comfortable for adults, but did not pass this along because of the nature of your reservation request only including 2 adults. Regardless, glad you enjoyed your stay.

Great stay

  • 5 of 5

The owner was prompt with all communications, so we weren't left hanging as with other VRBOs we've tried reserving. Cabin was cozy & well equipped. Surrounding area was quiet and peaceful. Good offerings in the village for food & drink. The only drawback was spaces in outside decking that spooked our old dog.

Owner's Response: You know, my "middle aged" dog is sometimes spooky about the deck too--it's not that kind of tight-fitting board flooring, so there is space between the boards. I just lay towels down and voila--she'll walk anywhere on it! Anyway, glad you enjoyed your stay.
