Paul J. Fantuzzi purchased this house in 2005

Why Paul J. Fantuzzi chose Northern Michigan

We had decided to purchase a home on Houghton Lake because of it's size and clean, clear water.

We also wanted the space of a large lot and wanted a very peaceful area. Very quite street will lots of bike riding.walking and birds chirping.

This home fit all of this!!!

What makes this house unique

Great walleye fishing in Michigan's largest inland lake! The water is warm, shallow and sandy bottom in front of home. Ice fishing and snowmobiling is terrific also. Home of 'tip up town' winter carnival. Great sandbar in water across lake from home. Not an outdated old cabin but a very nice home that is very ' lodge like'. I spent over 3 years rebuilding the home to the lodge look with virtually everything new. Most travelers call me and tell me "Wow" "when they walked in they never expected it to be this nice" !!!!

Peaceful and private street, with great lake views. Great fishing! SAND BEACH UPDATED 2013 -35 TONS BROUGHT IN TO THE ALREADY 50 TONS THERE! Known for one of the best walleye lakes in the state. The lake is 20 miles of shore line and 8 miles across, largest inland lake in Michigan. Many sandbars to beach your boat on and wade in very warm waters. A sandy bottom is in most areas of lake but our area is very sandy and shallow and down right hot water in mid season!! A 20 x 50 area of beach sand is sitting in front of seawall with a boardwalk adjacient to lake for sun sitting or playing in sand. Update: **** everyone loved the sand beach this year!!!!! ADDED:::: BONUS GAME ROOM

Very nice home and property - comfortable for the 13 people we had there

  • 5 of 5

Very nice home that made our family weekend getaway perfect. We had direct lake access for our ATV's and we were able to get some quality ice fishing time in despite the February thunderstorm. Thank you for offering your home!

Very Nice, Great Location

  • 5 of 5

I planned a mid winter family get together at this property. The home was satisfactory in every regard, plenty of room for our group (6 adults and 2 toddlers), and very nicely equipped with everything we needed. I can only imagine how nice this place would be during the summer months!!! We had a great stay and will plan to visit again.

Houghton Lake

  • 5 of 5

My family had an amazing week at this house on Houghton Lake. It looked exactly like the pictures.

The house had plenty of room for all of us and came with plenty of towels, sheets and everything for the kitchen including 2 refrigerators.

Would love to book again.

Awesome Place!

  • 4 of 5

Big, clean and stylish house with plenty of room to spread out and relax. No A/C but didn't need it with the breeze off the Lake and tons of windows and fans. Quiet neighborhood, plenty of parking, firewood is provided and everything you need is provided for cooking and having fun with the family. The owner is also easy to get a hold of and quite responsive.

One small issue and this is the reason for a 4 star rating. The house is for sale and the owner only mentioned that there is the possibility of a showing happening while we were there a couple days before our arrival date. I think this is something that should have been mentioned up front in the description of the house or could be handled differently when there are people paying to stay somewhere. We were not asked to leave during the showing but felt like it would be a very awkward situation if we had been there when prospective buyers were looking around. We were also a little uneasy about strangers being a house we paid to rent with our stuff lying around and us not there.

Might be a small thing, but it was enough to make part of our weekend not so awesome.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the kind words Dan! I am glad you and your family had a great time! With regards to the sale of the home, I never feel the need to mention the house is up for sale as it has been up for sale for many years now and it is very seldom we have potential buyers wanting to see the home. Thus, I try not to worry folks about a showing that may occur as I screen every possible potential buyer to prevent " just lookers" from disrupting a renters vacation. My number one concern is to make my clients, the renter, have a great and unique vacation while staying at my home. I hope that you will consider staying again in the future. Paul

Everything was as expected. We stayed here Super Bowl weekend. It fit our needs very well from sleeping arrangements to playing poker. Nearby breakfast restaurant is highly recommended.

Great house, comfortable for large family (or multiple families) Clean.

  • 5 of 5

This cabin easily accommodated our large group. We had multiple families with a variety ages of kids from 8-18. There are tons of beds and linens (tons of clean pillows, linens, blankets and towels are provided). I slept on the queen mattress in the bedroom in the room with the bunk beds and it was great. The kitchen is well furnished! Plenty of pots and pans and dishes. A small selection of basic spices were at the house. There are 2 refrigerators (1 in kitchen, 1 in bonus room in the back of the house - perfect for drinks). House was very clean and in good condition when we arrived. It rained several of the days we were there but there was plenty of space to accommodate our large group inside. The bonus room has 2 great card/game tables. Some people in our group went to bed early so we put them in the bedrooms in the middle of the house (the bunk bed/queen room and 2 queen bed room) - then the rest of us could be in the bonus room and it was still very quiet in the bedrooms. The bathrooms are clean, plumbing works well. Water has a slight iron taste but really not bad. There is a BBQ grill in the garage with plenty of propane included. Also, wood is provided for the fire pit. Although we didn't use them, the owner provides some bikes, fishing gear and sand toys. The sandy area by the water is great for little kids, however, it leads to lots of sand tracked in the house so you need to sweep a lot. Getting in and out of the water is tricky due to the sea wall. There is a dock, but boats need to be tied up to the mooring. So it is a little bit of maneuvering to get all gear on and off the boat and the boat tied up. (but completely doable). The only real negative thing is that the living room couch is quite worn out and the back is broken on one section. (The owner is aware.)

The house is about 15 minutes from Wal Mart - which is very handy when I had to make frequent trips to the store for food and drinks. Owner is very thorough and prompt with check-in instructions and any house rules/reminders. Owner is also very responsive to email and was ready to help with any issues we may have encountered during the week (even though we didn't have any). Street in front of the property is a small residential street - nice for walking or kids biking. Yard by the lake is big - we had 2 corn hole games set up and a ton of folding chairs and still had plenty of room.

Owner's Response: Hello and thank you again for staying. I bought a new leather couch and new chair as well as two new mattresses. Additionally, I added a Kuerig and new well tip. I really appreciate your feedback so I may keep my home in top condition for everyone to enjoy and I hope you return to stay another time. Thank you again , Paul
