Paul Fantuzzi purchased this house in 2005
We had decided to purchase a home on Houghton Lake because of it's size and clean, clear water.
We also wanted the space of a large lot and wanted a very peaceful area.
This home fit all of this!!!
Great walleye fishing in Michigan's largest inland lake! The water is warm, shallow and sandy bottom in front of home. Ice fishing and snowmobiling is terrific also. Home of 'tip up town' winter carnival. Great sandbar in water across lake from home. Not an outdated old cabin but a very nice home that is very ' lodge like'. I spent over 3 years rebuilding the home to the lodge look with virtually everything new. Most travelers call me and tell me "Wow" when they walked in they never expected it to be this nice!!!!
Everything was as expected. We stayed here Super Bowl weekend. It fit our needs very well from sleeping arrangements to playing poker. Nearby breakfast restaurant is highly recommended.
This cabin easily accommodated our large group. We had multiple families with a variety ages of kids from 8-18. There are tons of beds and linens (tons of clean pillows, linens, blankets and towels are provided). I slept on the queen mattress in the bedroom in the room with the bunk beds and it was great. The kitchen is well furnished! Plenty of pots and pans and dishes. A small selection of basic spices were at the house. There are 2 refrigerators (1 in kitchen, 1 in bonus room in the back of the house - perfect for drinks). House was very clean and in good condition when we arrived. It rained several of the days we were there but there was plenty of space to accommodate our large group inside. The bonus room has 2 great card/game tables. Some people in our group went to bed early so we put them in the bedrooms in the middle of the house (the bunk bed/queen room and 2 queen bed room) - then the rest of us could be in the bonus room and it was still very quiet in the bedrooms. The bathrooms are clean, plumbing works well. Water has a slight iron taste but really not bad. There is a BBQ grill in the garage with plenty of propane included. Also, wood is provided for the fire pit. Although we didn't use them, the owner provides some bikes, fishing gear and sand toys. The sandy area by the water is great for little kids, however, it leads to lots of sand tracked in the house so you need to sweep a lot. Getting in and out of the water is tricky due to the sea wall. There is a dock, but boats need to be tied up to the mooring. So it is a little bit of maneuvering to get all gear on and off the boat and the boat tied up. (but completely doable). The only real negative thing is that the living room couch is quite worn out and the back is broken on one section. (The owner is aware.)
The house is about 15 minutes from Wal Mart - which is very handy when I had to make frequent trips to the store for food and drinks. Owner is very thorough and prompt with check-in instructions and any house rules/reminders. Owner is also very responsive to email and was ready to help with any issues we may have encountered during the week (even though we didn't have any). Street in front of the property is a small residential street - nice for walking or kids biking. Yard by the lake is big - we had 2 corn hole games set up and a ton of folding chairs and still had plenty of room.
We 6 adults and 6 children. There was plenty of room for everyone during the day and the night. The place is very spacious. The bathrooms are clean and the kitchen has lots of room.
VERY NICE HOME. WELL FURNISHED KITCHEN . NICE NEIGHBORHOOD TO RIDE BIKES, AS WELL AS HAVING BIKES TO RIDE SUPPLIED. BEAUTIFUL SUNSETS. NEIGHBORS FRIENDLY. OWNER VERY HELPFUL AND EASY TO REACH AND COMMUNICATE WITH MUST SEE TO APPRECIATE THE HOME , ABSOLUTELY WILL TELL FRIENDS AND RELATIVES ABOUT HOW WONDERFUL OUR STAY WAS.
Very nice home right on the East side of Houghton Lake. About 25 mins from Walmart for fishing license & forgotten items. It was very windy on the East side of the lake but beautiful 80'weekend. We took a small 10 aluminum boat, dock not in as water too high.
Very spacious place with beds, would sleep 10 easily & privacy for all if us (5) & we had out own rooms & rooms to chill out. Lots of toys in the garage, beach chair. Extra grills, floating toys, etc. Lots of family friendly DVDS & Vhs movies
Large kitchen with plenty of plates cups, bake ware, coffee pot, microwave & dishwasher. Included some spices & sugar, flour etc. Dish soap & dishwasher soap too. Awesome washer & dryer.
Don't over pack...use the amenities.
We walked nightly- peaceful..
Fished every day, bonfire at night...fun older couple next door..cable TV .
Called Paul for a couple minor thing & answered promptly. ..would rent again. ..great family or girlfriend getaway. My kids loved it but no beach, some sand by fire pit . Also outdoor clothesline :) Seawall prob not kid friendly for little ones.
We spent a week there with relatives on an annual summer vacation. We enjoyed our stay. Wood floors throughout. Though there is no A/C, there was plenty of breeze and all the windows open to keep it cool. The kitchen was well-supplied. Everything we needed for plates, silverware, cookware, knives, spatula, mixing bowls, etc. was all there. Beds were comfortable. Washer & dryer were pretty new and in good shape. Paul provides PFDs for boating/swimming, fishing poles, bikes, propane for the grill(s), fans. Everything is there.
85' foot of private beach front with a 50 foot dock into water. Lots of large oak trees for shade but a great sandy beach area for sunbathing. New fire pit , and large cedar picnic table. A gently sloping sea wall is at waters edge. Prior to seawall, a large sandy beach for the kids to play in. Large family area near shoreline with a nice fire pit. POKER TABLES
