Capri Apartment Rental Photos and Description

This ample flat with large private terrace is the perfect holiday destination

Located in a marvelous location in the luxurious period Villa Mezzomonte, sporting wide views of the old town and the sea, this spacious home with large private terrace is the perfect destination for a romantic holiday or a great family experience.

This magnificent three-bedroom home is located on the piano nobile of the historical Villa Mezzomonte in Capri, mentioned in several publications about the island's stately homes. It is within ten minutes reach from the world-famous Piazzetta and sports a more-than-180-degree view of the sea and of the old town from the al-fresco dining terrace.

The villa and the property are bursting with period features, including the majestic double marble staircase leading up to the first floor, the giant star chandeliers hanging from the 6-meter-high vaulted ceilings, and the iconic stained-glass arch window, which casts an ethereal emerald hue into the immense entrance hall.

From the bustle of the cafes in the Piazzetta, through the busy artisan workshops and little archways of Via Le Botteghe (so narrow that you will brush shoulders with the people coming from the opposite direction), you make your way up an oleander-shaded path to La Croce (The Crossroads), once the main node of the old mule tracks of upper side of the Capri, and an obligatory walk-through for the archaeological site of Emperor Tiberius's Villa Jovis and for the Arco Naturale (Natural Arch).Right beyond the stone wall with overhanging lemon branches to your left, you can see a towering yellow villa framed by white eaves. You'll probably spot some tourists taking pictures through the ornate wrought iron gate. Reach the building glass front door across the citrus and cactus garden, and step into the cool entrance hall, with original ceramic tiles, period wrought-iron chandeliers and a gigantic marble staircase which takes you up to the first floor.

Step through the hallway into the spacious 33sqm (360 sqft) reception, with hand-painted ceramic-tiled floors throughout, a gigantic nautical star-shaped glass-and-iron chandelier hanging from the six-meter-high cross-vaulted ceiling, and an impressive wrought-iron-balustrade staircase leading up to the secluded mezzanine floor. A collection of original furniture from the time the house was converted in the early 70s is complemented by a selection of newer pieces and refined decorations, including ornamental maiolica masks from the artisan town of Vietri Sul Mare and designer pieces such as the Arco Lamp by Achille Castiglioni. The reception is the perfect place to relax during the hottest hours of the day and to enjoy a perfectly-cooked meal of one of the many delicacies of the island. It also has access to the private terrace though the tall French doors.

The terrace is the true jewel of the home: spacious enough for a large party to comfortably dine al fresco in the gentle breeze that favours this spot, this area features extensive views of the sea, of the old town, of the Monte Solaro and the Monte di Tuoro. With the wrought-iron balustrades and period globe-shaped lamps, it is perfect to lie in the sun on a reclinable chair or to enjoy a chilled local white wine before dinner while peeking at the multimillion-dollar yachts and twinkling cruise-liners which regularly parade off the coast of Marina Piccola. The terrace also overlooks the villa's citrus garden and picnic area.

From the reception's polished-stone staircase you can access the master bedroom, which is separated from the reception below by the means of sliding glass doors and curtains. This bedroom features a king-size bed, an original hand-made five-door built-in wardrobe with lots of storage, comfortable bedside tables, a small couch and a large mirror. It also leads to the en-suite full bathroom with vanity mirror, glass cabinets, shower-over-bath, sink with mixer tap, bidet and toilet. The window overlooks the pretty XI century S.Michele Church, the garden of which is carefully manicured by the local community and is definitely worth a short visit. If you'd like to attend, they also hold singing Sunday services.

The master bedroom also gives access to a small utility room which hosts some more storage space and a new washing machine. The south-facing bedroom on the main floor has also access to the terrace, and features two twin beds, bedside tables, a double built-in wardrobe, a large wooden chest of drawers, a full-sized mirror, high vaulted ceilings and a smaller version of the star-shaped chandelier that adorns the reception room.

The adjacent east-facing bedroom (available upon request) also has two twin beds, which can be joined to form an additional double bed. It also features high ceilings with a maiolica chandelier, a large hand-made wooden wardrobe, bedside tables, a wide window sill, and additional shelving. The large window also looks over the gardens of the S.Michele Church.Between the two twin bedrooms is the family bathroom, which is fully tiled and equipped with sink with mixer tap, shower-over-bath, vanity mirror with cabinet, toilet, bidet, and extractor fan.The kitchen comes with large fridge, gas cooker, electric oven and dishwasher. The furniture is original from the 70s conversion and is in perfect conditions. You will find a wide range of cookware and tableware at your disposal.

GUEST ACCESS

You will have exclusive use of the property, although some space might be reserved for our personal effects. You will also have access to the villa's communal citrus garden and picnic area. From mid April till mid October, we can recommend our guests access to the exclusive panoramic swimming pool of a nearby hotel.

INTERACTION WITH GUESTS

We will be in touch with you from the moment of your booking and throughout your reservation by phone, by email, and in person when possible. When we are not on the island ourselves, a trusted person will arrange your check-in and check-out. You are most welcome to ask us for advice about activities, sightseeing, restaurants, shopping, or everyday life on the island.

GETTING AROUND

The island can be reached by ferry from Naples (about 45') or Sorrento (about 20'). Once at the harbour you can reach the Piazzetta by taxi, bus, or by the famous red cable-car. From there you'll have to proceed on foot for about 500 meters through the old town to reach Villa Mezzomonte. We can arrange for your luggage to be transported from the ferry directly to the house via electrical cart, which is the only vehicle that can travel through the narrow streets of the old town .Bear in mind that roads in Capri are quite uneven, so at least one pair of sensible shoes is a must until you have assessed the situation. We recommend to get a thin rubber patch applied under smooth-soled shoes by a local cobbler. That'll save you a few slips! Capri is virtually crime-free, although if you decide to explore or if you have small children, please bear in mind that many parts of the island have been preserved how they were one hundred years ago, also in terms of safety measures, so low banisters and steep steps are quite frequent around the island.

OTHER THINGS TO NOTE

Please note that only groups of 5 or more will have access to the East-facing bedroom.Although all care has been taken to ensure that TV services are provided, being a small island, disruption might occur outside of our control.

HOUSE RULES

You are welcome to smoke on the private terrace, although smoking is not allowed indoors.

Only booked guests are allowed on the premises.

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

Villa Mezzomonte is located at La Croce (The Cross) on the small rise of Monte S. Michele, from which it takes its name. La Croce is a quiet residential area less than five minutes walk from the old town, very popular for wealthy holiday-home owners which favour the peace and discretion of their hillside retreats to the bustle of the hotels of the old town.Do not worry though: just outside the villa you will find a small al-fresco cafe' and ice cream parlour, a traditional butcher, and a small but well-stocked grocery store. If you don't want to miss one single moment of your holiday, we can provide you with a breakfast of cappuccino and fresh pastries to be delivered to your door every morning, and a fridge-stocking service by a trusted local housewife. If you walk past the villa towards the Monte Tiberio or the Monte di Matermania, you will reach some of the most iconic spots of the island, including the archaeological site of Emperor Tiberius's Villa Jovis (with amazing views on the Amalfi coast), the natural wonder the Arco Naturale, the picturesque cliff-hung path Pizzolungo, and the pine forest of the Piana delle Noci.At the foot of Monte S.Michele lies Capri old town. The centre is absolutely bursting with restaurants, cafes, artisan shops, gelaterie (ice cream parlours), and everything else you might need, all within walking distance from the villa. Although many of the traditional shops have been replaced by luxury brands that cater to the wealthy visitors, in the smaller streets of Via Le Botteghe you can still find original greengrocers, fishmongers, artisan bakers (don't forget to visit Sfizi di Capri!), and gourmet food shops. On the other hand, on the main thoroughfare (Via Camerelle), you will find the flagship stores of the most famous Italian luxury brands, such as Prada, Versace, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, just to name a few.The Piazzetta is the beating heart of the island. Its cafes are world famous and their creamy frozen coffee even more rightly so. There is where everyone meets on their way back from the beach or after dark to catch up with friends, make plans for the evening and watch the best half of the world walk by with impeccable style.

We stayed here for 10 days in June and it was just amazing! The house is perfectly located in a beautiful Italian neighborhood but a perfect walking distance to everything! The house is extremely comfortable and has a great Italian feel with stunning views of Capri and the sea! The owner was so accommodating and extremely accessible and helpful! We hope to return next year!

Amazing stay on Capri

  • 5 of 5

The villa was perfect for our vacation on Capri. My husband, sister, brother in law, and I stayed at the home for 5 days during April 2016. Our favorite part was the balcony overlooking the private garden with lemon trees and flowering trees, as well as the mediterranean. Mornings were spent outside drinking coffee and afternoons were spent there reading.

The villa kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed. We chose to stay in 2 of the nights and made dinner instead of going out to a restaurant. Also, there is a grocery store conveniently located right next to the home as well as a bar/coffee shop. The main living area was bright and sunny. The beds were comfortable and clean. The location was very close, 5-10 minute walk, to the center of Capri town. It was perfect.

The owner, Massimo, was always available prior to our trip as well as during our stay. We stayed connect via the WhatsApp app, e-mail, and text messaging. He always responded very quickly to any questions I had. He recommended a fantastic guide to take us on a boat tour around the island. And most importantly, he was so helpful. My luggage was lost by my airline and he stayed connected with the courier who delivered my bag and made sure it made it from Rome to Naples to the villa. I am grateful for the time he took to help get me my suitcase.

Hopefully we will return to Capri. If so, we will stay here again.

Just wonderful !

  • 5 of 5

Davide's house is just wonderful. I am not sure there can be a better place in Capri for one who wants to stay in the heart of the town ! We have spend 3 days in Capri and we felt privileged at every moment. The appartment is great for a couple as well as for a family with kids. Every needed facilities are available to rest there peacefully and we recommand to take time on the terrace just to breath the contintuing little and fresh air that comes up the ill. The appartment takes place in an ancient master house with a huge garden and it is is quite easy to find it in the pedestrian streets. Davide has always been available through email and phone to facilitate our journey. We warmly thank him.

The Neighbourhood

Villa Mezzomonte is located at La Croce (The Crossroads) on the small rise of Monte S. Michele, from which it takes its name. La Croce is a quiet residential area less than five minutes walk from the old town, very popular for wealthy holiday-home owners which favour the peace and discretion of their hillside retreats to the bustle of the hotels of the old town.

Do not worry though: just outside the villa you will find a small al-fresco cafe' and ice cream parlour, a traditional butcher, and a small but well-stocked grocery store. If you don’t want to miss one single moment of your holiday, we can provide you with a breakfast of cappuccino and fresh pastries to be delivered to your door every morning, and a fridge-stocking service by a trusted local housewife.

If you walk past the villa towards the Monte Tiberio or the Monte di Matermania, you will reach some of the most iconic spots of the island, including the archaeological site of Emperor Tiberius’s Villa Jovis (with amazing views on the Amalfi coast), the natural wonder the Arco Naturale, the picturesque cliff-hung path Pizzolungo, and the pine forest of the Piana delle Noci.

At the foot of Monte S.Michele lies Capri old town. The centre is absolutely bursting with restaurants, cafes, artisan shops, gelaterie (ice cream parlours), and everything else you might need, all within walking distance from the villa. Although many of the traditional shops have been replaced by luxury brands that cater to the wealthy visitors, in the smaller streets of Via Le Botteghe you can still find original greengrocers, fishmongers, artisan bakers (don’t forget to visit Sfizi di Capri!), and gourmet food shops. On the other hand, on the main thoroughfare (Via Camerelle), you will find the flagship stores of the most famous Italian luxury brands, such as Prada, Versace, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, just to name a few.

The Piazzetta is the beating heart of the island. Its cafes are world famous and their creamy frozen coffee even more rightly so. There is where everyone meets on their way back from the beach or after dark to catch up with friends, make plans for the evening and watch the best half of the world walk by with impeccable style.

From the Piazzetta the town unwinds in various directions towards a wide choice of restaurants specialising in seaside delicacies and traditional local cuisine, including the famous ‘ravioli capresi’, the typical ‘insalata caprese’ with tomato, buffalo mozzarella and basil, and seafood ‘scialatielli’ (a type of fresh pasta sometimes flavoured with squid ink).

There are many choices for the night life, including traditional live-music taverns such as ‘Anema e Core’ e ‘Il Guarracino’, and modern clubs such as ‘Number One’, ‘Number Two’, ‘Celeste’, ‘Panta Rei’, and more, all practicing a fierce selection and requiring a smart attire.

As the old town was originally built raised from the sea for protection from pirate attacks, the harbour and the beaches can be reached in ten minutes by open-top taxi, bus, cable car, and on foot. The beaches nearest to the villa are the exclusive 'Luigi ai Faraglioni' and 'La Fontelina', about 800m away.

Other attractions within walking distance from the villa are the Tragara Belvedere, which looks over the whole of Marina Piccola and the Faraglioni, the S.Giacomo Charterhouse, the Giardini di Augusto, and Via Krupp, an engineering masterpiece that connects the Giardini di Augusto to Marina Piccola winding its way along the steepest of cliffs with incredible views from above.

During your stay you absolutely mustn't miss a trip to the Grotta Azzurra (the Blue Grotto), a seawater cave famous for its viridian reflexes which is accessible by tiny rowing boats stirred by expert Capri sailors, and to the Faro (the Lighthouse), which is a seaside spot on the western side of the island, where you can enjoy the longest-lasting sunset in Capri.

Getting around

The island can be reached by ferry from Naples (about 45') or Sorrento (about 20').

If you want to travel more comfortably, we can arrange private transportation for you from Rome or Naples via car, speedboat and even helicopter!

Once at the harbour you can reach the Piazzetta by taxi, bus, or by the famous red cable-car. From there you'll have to proceed on foot for about 500 meters through the old town to reach Villa Mezzomonte.

We can arrange for your luggage to be transported from the ferry directly to the house via electrical cart, which is the only vehicle that can travel through the narrow streets of the old town .

Bear in mind that roads in Capri are quite uneven, so at least one pair of sensible shoes is a must until you have assessed the situation. We recommend to get a thin rubber patch applied under the soles of open and women's shoes by a local cobbler. That'll save you a few slips!

Capri is virtually crime-free, although if you decide to explore or you have small children, please mind the numerous steps and low railings.
