About The Owner

We're the Spieker's and this is our rescue pooch- Ace.

We purchased this beautiful home for our blended family to spend weekends.

I'm a Fine Arts major with am emphasis in Design from California and my husband is a Business and Social Studies major from Wisconsin. As with many others, our careers took us on a slightly different path. We both have built our careers in Commercial Real Estate for many years.

As Real Estate professionals, we've done our fair share of traveling. This has certainly given us an advantage in knowing what it takes to have memorable travel and lodging experience. We've gone out of our way to provide all the comforts of home, while focusing on the details. It's a tall order to host both small and large groups in a home this size- but we're more than qualified and certainly up for the challenge.

We live and work in Chicago, so the time at the Lodge was and still is very special. It is an unbelievable place to get away, relax and enjoy friends and family. It's the location of many of our own family reunions and get together with friends from all over the world.

It is our plan to leave the Lodge to our kids so that they too will have a 'home base' for their own families and remember all of the wonderful times we spent there when they were young.

This is truly a special place. We hope you enjoy the Lodge as much as we do.

Why The Owner chose Lake Geneva

Clearview Lodge is a unique property that is best described by the feeling you get when you step into the door. Minutes from the charm of Downtown Lake Geneva, but far enough to enjoy nature at its best.

The 25 foot vaulted ceilings gives you the feeling of spaciousness, while spruce ceiling and walls provide that cozy feeling of a Northwood's Lodge.

From the home's decks and through the Great Room's wall to ceiling windows allows for a one of a kind view.

What makes this house unique

Do you ever live or stay in a home and think..'it sure would be nice if this room was adjacent to this room? Or the kitchen layout would be so much better if it had this was instead of that? This custom made home has the most thoughtful and intuitive design I have ever seen. The previous owner was a tradesmen and it shows throughout the construction of this very special home.

The craftsmanship in this home is absolutely impeccable.

A Beautiful House! Look No Further

  • 5 of 5

I don’t write reviews and always take reading them with a grain of salt. But my group and I were blown away with how accommodating these owners were. It started when we booked our reservation for 8 adults. Unfortunately, at the last minute, one of the couples were unable to make it due to a family emergency. We notified Dean as soon as we heard. He understood the situation and allowed us to modify our reservation without penalty. We knew technically we were on the hook and was pleasantly surprised to find we didn’t have to pay for the couple who couldn’t make it. Its nice to know there are still people out there who are fair and understanding and that aren’t just about how much money they can make.

We were equally happy with the house. There were nice touches like extra paper towels, trash cans liners, hand soap etc. Many houses are bare boned and leave you scrambling at the last minute for these kinds of things.

Thanks Dean! We'll be sharing this house with our friends and family.

Location is incorrect (or lie), Owner harasses guests

  • 1 of 5

House is great and it almost redeemed the weekend that the owner attempted to derail. My friends and I rented this house for a 3 day weekend.

LOCATION ON MAP IS FALSE: It is marked on Lake Geneva, but is actually about 10 min by car from that location, on the north side of Lake Como. Read the description carefully and you'll notice that it only mentions lake VIEWS, as it is not on the water itself. It has a yard where you can see Lake Como, but cannot walk to it as there is about 100 yards of marsh and 20 yards of woods between you and it.

NICKELS AND DIMES: The rental agreement seemed out of touch and nickeled+dimed for very minor amenities (e.g. charged extra for Wifi, which I imagine is plugged in regardless). It also asked for the name of every guest and the owner calculates the fee based how many people are staying. So if you think you can stay here and split the cost amongst several others, think again. Each person will be extra on top of the initial cost, per person, per night.

OWNER HARASSMENT: I know this because we initially only had six people when signing the rental agreement. A couple decided to join us at the last minute for two of the three days. If you read the rental agreement closely, it does spell out in no uncertain terms that the owner must be informed IMMEDIATELY should other guests arrive, he has a very strict visitor policy. I didn't think it was that big of a deal (at the time), but it didn't matter, because he was on the property during the day, circling the house, counting guests, and walking up to them asking "What's you name? How many people are here? I counted 10 chairs by the fire pit, is there more than 6 here?" He returned the next day, paced in the driveway for hours (seriously) and did same thing. In the end he took most of the security deposit for the two extra guest for two nights.

BOTTOM LINE: The house is beautiful, but it's a half-mile north of Lake Como, not Lake Geneva. It will cost you a fortune to rent it, not splittable amongst friends. The owner seemed like an extremely anxious guy who probably shouldn't be renting houses and might borderline harass you.

Owner's Response: We’re glad to hear that you had a great time and the house is beautiful! We hope that after providing you with a better understanding of our guest methodology- you will be one of them. OUR LOCATION: We’re sincerely sorry there was confusion about the Lodge’s location. We too, were surprised to see the inaccurate location on VRBO. We are always up front in communicating that the Lodge is approximately 8 minutes from the heart of downtown. We’re saddened with your suggestion that we would purposefully mislead potential guests. We are working to correct our location on the map. WIFI: We intentionally do not include WIFI into our lodging rate. We like to allow each guest to customize their experience with their budget. Automatically adding this cost would unnecessarily burden those who don’t want or need WIFI. We assure you it is not already included in our lodging rates. REGISTERED GUESTS: We admit we chuckled with your description of how the 2 additional guests came to light. Since neither of us had the pleasure of meeting you at check in, we knew you by name only. At checkout I simply asked your group where you were to introduce myself; as well as inquire about the number of cars in the driveway and chairs at the fire pit; vs the number of registered guests. I don’t believe these questions were intrusive in any way. However, I’m sincerely sorry you felt differently. Our per-person pricing is simple. It accommodates small groups that couldn’t otherwise afford a home of this size. We’ve seen how flat rate pricing can balloon a groups size; exceeding safe occupancy limits. Most importantly, knowing the group size enable us to provide authorities this info, should there be an unexpected emergency. We understand the addition of guest were unintentional and hope you agree that paying the additional fees is fair and appropriate. MISTAKEN BEHAVIOR: We’re afraid you mistakenly interpreted my pacing in the driveway around 9:30 am. I was actually spraying weeds at the house we own across the street. We can see how that behavior can be mistaken as anxious behavior. I was simply trying to coordinate this work with your 10am check out. IN CLOSING: It appears the misconception of my behavior and the additional fee for your unintended guests, has negatively impacted your perspective. We hope that our response and clarification is met with your acceptance and understanding- and wish you only the best in finding a home within your budget in the future. Cheers!

House was exactly how it was portrayed but even nicer than I thought. I had three clients in for a couple of days and going back and forth between the US Open. We enjoyed hanging out at the lodge in the evenings either in the comfortable family room or the great deck!
