Kuhio Shores, our 'Jewel on the Sea,' on Kauai's Gold Coast.
When we first walked into what was to become our new home in Kauai, the views of the ocean, coastline, and lush green hills and palms literally took our breath away! Located on a fantastic snorkeling beach (rated best snorkeling in Kauai by 'Sunset' magazine) and a summer surfing favorite, we could see turtles feeding below the lanai and blowholes out in the distance. Around the corner we saw where we had first learned to snorkel, next to one of the best restaurants in all of Kauai, the Beach House. Our oceanfront, one bedroom condominium, #305 at Kuhio Shores, exceeds our dreams!
If you are on your honeymoon, wish to recapture the romance in your relationship, or you just want to experience the awesome beauty and serenity of this 'jewel on the sea' by yourself, with your family, or friends, this is the ideal home for you when vacationing on the Garden Island of Kauai.
Kuhio Shores is closer to the ocean than an other condo or resort on the entire island of Kauai, with beach access. Learn to snorkel by the Beach House, on the west side of the building (teaming with fish; over 650 varieties in Hawaii!), then get into the water below our lanai to snorkel or dive with turtles! On the south side of our property, relax on the grass and watch surfers (little kids will amaze you!)and whales in winter. Right here, are three of Kauai's premier surf spots: PK'S, Acid Drops, and Centers.
In our completely private, third floor condominium (4 floors total), the only thing you hear is the crashing of the waves. As soon as you open the front door, your eyes go out to the ocean. You have unobstructed views from the kitchen, living room, dining room, bedroom and, of course, the lanai.
Remodeled for the most discriminating guest, our home reflects the Hawaiian tropics. Comfort and beauty are our priority. Bamboo floors glisten in the light of the morning sunrise. New tile and paint, in tropical greens and earth tones, create a peaceful, clean atmosphere. Bathe in luxury in our Noccino Italian marble shower with stone accents. The kitchen features Brazilian, Verdi Peacock granite countertops that reflect the aqua of the ocean, and new stainless steel appliances. In the dining room, bamboo wainscoting and a huge mirror framed in dark tropical wood, reflects the crashing waves, bringing the spectacular beauty of Kauai's nature inside.
The new ultra luxurious, Cal king-size bed, a top-of-the-line resort style pillowtop, is the most comfortable bed we have ever slept on. High thread count cotton sheets are topped with silk filled comforters with cotton duvets, making this a truly clean and blissful bed! Ocean breezes cool you naturally as they are pulled though the bedroom breezeway and new Haiku fans made by the Big Ass Fan company are rated best fans on the market by CNET.
In the livingroom a comfy chenille, queen-size, pull-out couch has a five-inch-thick mattress (no bars or poking springs). Two Hawaiian-style reclining chairs are perfect for laying back to watch the waves, listen to CDs, or watch cable TV. The hand-carved dining room table with rattan chairs is your exclusive seat to spot playful spinner dolphins. On our large lanai are two chaise lounges, chairs and tables; you will be so comfortable, you may not want to leave. Seeing a rainbow, or the moon shimmering over the water will create lifetime memories.
Another feature that sets us apart is that we collect original works of art by renoun artists. Artwork is carefully chosen to reflect the lushness and peace of Kauai. Our masterpiece is by Fred Gemmell. This large scale abstract painting on the back of glass was at sea for a month before it arrived in our Kauai home. Fred 'captures with complex detail and bold gestures, the amazing diversity and adaptability of life in all its interaction and beauty..... to create a feeling of a luminous and unfolding mystery.” We are also proud to display original pastel paintings by local Kauai artist, Helen Turner, the 'Degas' of Hawaii.
Because we know you are probably tired and hungry after your long journey, we give you an 'Aloha Basket' with snacks and coffee, so that you can immediately begin to relax.
The 'Aloha Spirit' truly exists on the island of Kauai. We have done our very best to bring this spirit into our 'Jewel on the Sea.' Photos say more than words so please scroll down below where it says 'CLICK HERE - To View More Photos of Condo.' We also invite you to our facebook page which is dedicated to providing connections for our guests.
When we were younger we lived in a cottage by the ocean in Southern California and sadly had to leave. We never dreamed we could ever live by the beach again. Years later, we went on vacation to Kauai as a reprieve from taking care of our ailing parents. At the time we asked a local man about the best place to snorkel on the island. He told us about a small beach by the Beach House Restaurant. We ended up snorkeling there every day of that vacation. The reef was filled with colorful fish, the turquoise water was calm and access was easy. Being in the water there was such a joyful experience! We never dreamed the possibility of owning a condo on Kauai, let alone on our favorite snorkeling beach, but it happened! It gives us great joy to share our 'Jewel on the Sea' with our guests. Over the years we have stayed in contact with many of our guests, some who return over and over again. We host a facebook page that is dedicated to all things Kauai, where you can meet local residents, make plans in advance of your trip and get referrals from our past guests. We are so grateful to provide a beautiful tropical oceanfront home for your special time on Kauai. We enjoy getting to know our guests and will help you with ideas for your trip. We still live in the San Diego area, in a north coastal town called Encinitas. Dreaming of becoming Kauai residents someday. In the meantime we love working on our Kauai Jewel. We love the arts and have commissioned beautiful pieces that enhance your experience in the space. FYI: We never ask our guests to wire money and we do not advertise on Craig's list. Every year we continue to make improvements. We take great pride in our work on our 'Jewel on the Sea' and continue to do everything possible to add to your enjoyment. Hope you stay with us! We are sure you are going to love it!
Molla Wallace purchased this condo in 2004
Kuhio Shores is where, as one guest described it, 'the location is the destination.' It is closer to the water than any other resort or condo on the island and perhaps, in all of the islands, with swimmable beaches for snorkeling, diving and surfing right at the condo. No need to get into a car. You will hear the sounds of the ocean day and night. From our wall of windows and the lanai you can watch the day turn into night with spectacular sunrises, relax on the lanai while the cool aqua waves roll past the lanai and turtles feed below. Witness a passing shower and rainbows over the water and the tropical greens of Prince Kuhio Park. In winter we get excited by the sighting of a breaching whale. Walk over to the Beach House Restaurant for a delicious meal or bring a drink down to the beach to watch the magnificent sunset. Head back up to the condo to lay on the chaise lounges under the evening stars or gaze at the full moon reflecting over the water. We never tire of the constant lull and beauty of the ocean. Our Jewel on the Sea, #305 Kuhio Shores, exceeds our dreams.
As soon as we opened the door of our 'Jewel on the Sea' we knew it was home, and we had to make it happen. We didn't know this at the time (the view would have been enough), but right below our condo is where turtles feed. I have been told by guests who had previously lived in the islands that they had never seen so many turtles in all the years they had lived in Hawaii.
As soon as the condo was ours, we began our remodel, marrying the luxury of upscale resorts with the comforts of a fine home. During a flight back to the mainland an idea came to us about how to increase the airflow. The positioning of our condo in the building was already excellent but now, after creating a 'breezeway,' the condo interior is like a cool wind tunnel and sometimes we need to turn the fans off at night in the summer. With the first cut into the wall we could feel the air getting pulled throughout the entire condo and unexpectedly, we created an ocean view in the bedroom. In 2015 we installed the best fans on the market according to CNet, the 'Haiku,' American made by the Big Ass Fan Company (yes that is the name!!). These hanging sculptural fans circulate the cool ocean air, allowing us to feel comfortable while listening to the calming ocean lull.
Nothing gives us greater joy than to please our guests; that we have contributed to our guests' lifetime experience. We know that for many people vacationing on Kauai that it may be a once in a lifetime experience. We continue to do all that we can to make it your greatest experience.
We can not thank you enough for sharing your island home with us. We had a wonderful visit to Kaua'i! We would have been happy spending the entire trip sitting on the Lanai watching the waves, whales and the sea turtles. We did venture out to see a good bit of the island and are looking forward to future trips when we can see some more.
Your condo is lovely and very comfortable. The pride of ownership is apparent in all the beautiful natural materials you have used and they really enhance the experience there.
I am mailing the key back tomorrow morning.
We will definately refer your condo to our friends and family (my mother is all ready interested and talking to my dad) and hope to stay with you again when we are able to return. I can't imagine better accomodations anywhere.
Molla and Kevin,
What a beautiful home you have! The view was amazing! For us visiting from Arizona - hearing the ocean day and night was heaven!
I couldn't wait to wake up every morning just to watch the sea turtles. They were magical.
It was definitely one of the best trips we have ever been on. We just loved every minute of it.
We would highly recommend your condo to anyone and everyone! It was so comfortable and inviting!
Thanks and hope we can make it back one day....
My wife and I stayed here for the 2nd half of our trip to kauai for our 5th anniversary.
We loved it here and would stay again. Lots of cookware and snorkle/beach gear to have fun with for a day trip to the beach.
The owners are very nice and communicate quite frequently and make sure everything is ok.
Thanks to Molla and Kevin for opening up their beautiful home to us. The location was perfect for exploring the south side of Kauai. Wonderful, peaceful views from the lanai, and great turtle watching! The condo was in great shape and was clean. My wife and I had our 2 teen kids with us, and the condo was the perfect size.
We spent six nights in this gem. The condo is excellent and just as described. The view was understated though. What a great place to sit and watch the sites! Multiple turtles every day, fisherman trying their luck and folks snorkeling. (Need to come back in the winter for the whales) The sunsets were great and as far as location goes, this place is fantastic. Even got to see Bethany Hamilton surfing out in front of the Beach House restaurant.
Tons to do within a 30 minute drive east or west and add another hour and you are on the north side of the island.
The communication, directions and tips given by Kevin and Molla were outstanding. Make sure you get a 4x4 or SUV because the beach out past Poipu, they recommend is not to be missed but i wouldn't try it in a car and I'm not afraid to abuse rental cars.
Convenient shopping within walking distance and really good restaurants too. The farmers market on Wed nights is a good way to get some local supplies to have for dinner. If you are pizza lover get a Brick Oven pizza about 6 miles away, best ever.
Thanks for the use of your place. Can't wait to come back and do all the things we couldn't fit into our schedule.
This was a second visit for my wife and I and we love the beautiful new artwork, renovated kitchen and bathroom plus the bamboo floors and incredible view. Two of the best elements about this apartment is the location of Kuhio Shores plus the way this condo faces a bay with sea turtles, roaring surf on black lava rocks, a serene park across the street and a third floor view away from the noise of traffic and boisterous people. We found the seven day stay quite relaxing and private even though a large wedding party was staying on the ground floor below us; it didn't matter. The crashing of the waves and constant flow of trade winds kept us cool and divided from the masses. Then, when we wanted to go out there is plenty to do within a twenty minute drive or travel west to the canyon like we did for an unforgettable day. Poipu Beach has excellent snorkeling and there are plenty of great places to eat. The Save Way in Koala Town was a great place to buy local produce and foods and the condo has a top of the line kitchen for a one bedroom. In the evening we cooled fresh fish and let the winds and views from the balcony entertain us. Once in a while it was fun to flip on the new flat screen or play tunes on the great new docking station for IPhone or IPad. Nothing like listening to Hawaiian music from the balcony of this condo with mountain, bay, ocean view and all the toys.
My husband and I stayed at Molla and Kevin's condo for 10 nights in February. The unit is exactly as described and portrayed in the pictures and it had the extras that we did not expect from a rental: cooking oil, several types of seasonings, tea, sugar, peanut butter, extra paper towels, dish soap, etc. While these items are not real expensive, it makes your stay that much more convenient when you don't have to worry about constantly running to the store.
The view is simply gorgeous - lanai is facing east, so seeing the sunrise at breakfast sets your spirit right for the day. The turtles truly do come up right to the edge of the water. We even watched one resting right on the rocks in the sun and my husband got to swim right next to two of them in the cove. The best snorkeling is usually first thing in the morning, I thought. We also got to see some whales breach on a few different occasions in the distance (binoculars provided). You can also snorkel off of Lawai beach on the other side of the building (so 2 snorkeling locations right there).
The unit itself was very clean, well cared for and I really liked the bamboo floor versus the cold tile. The kitchen is well equipped and the way the doors and windows are situated, it leaves no need for AC. It is good idea to leave the doors and windows open in a proper way through the day, so it feels great once you are back after the day's adventures. By the way, the two chairs in the living are 3 position recliners and are really comfortable.
It was nice to have the Beach House restaurant right next door, and even if you are not having a meal there, you can sit on their lawn (right next to Lawai beach) and watch the best sunset. So, to sum it up, the condo was wonderful and the location is unbeatable: sunrise right from the lanai, sunset on the other side of the building, all overlooking the waves and beautiful landscape. It's also fun to grill outside and meet other visitors to paradise. I can also add that this was our second visit to Kauai and we stayed at the Sheraton down the road the first time, and I was much more pleased being at this condo.
Would recommend it to anyone that loves comfort, nice casual atmosphere (this is not Ritz Carlton or St. Regis resort) and wants to be right "on the water".
The condo's beach is on Kauai's Gold Coast, a snorkeler's paradise. . Our beach, Lawal on Poipu Beach, is ranked the best snorkeling on the island by Sunset Magazine: Snorkel different times of the day to see different kinds of fish (650+ types in the islands). Watch endangered giant sea turtles from the lanai. Below the lanai is a shore dive spot, and some of the best surfing is out the door: PK’s, Centers, and Acid Drop. In the winter watch humpback whales. Walking distance to restaurants, shops, markets and galleries. We are next to the Beach House Restaurant, rated best restaurant on Kauai 13+ years in a row. Across the street is a Hawaiian heiau, sacred to Hawaiians with an historic fishpond. Markers lead you the property with views out to the ocean. Our micro climate is a sunny, central coastal location: Sightsee, Hike, Bike, Sail, Boogie Board, visit the nationally acclaimed Tropical Botanical Gardens ( one mile, next to the blowhole 'Spouting Horn'), sea and river kayak (Kauai is the only Hawaiian island with navigable rivers), boat tours (catamarans leave from Port Allen to the awe-inspiring Na Pali Coast), Helicopter, movie site ATV, horseback riding, zip-line, tubing, greatest array of public golf courses is on Kauai. From your door, take a walk along Poipu's dramatic coastline to the Kukuiula Harbor, passing a Tom Weiskopf designed golf course. In 2015 our location was designated nationally as one of the most scenic drives in America. The Holo Holo byway slowly meanders through Poipu, beginning with the magical Tunnel of trees, winding through historic Koloa Town then makai (toward the ocean) to our condo, ending in Spouting Horn and the National Tropical Botanical Gardens, about a mile from your home away from home. Because there are no roads cutting through the center of Kauai nor on the Napali Coast, the south shore is centrally located for touring the entire island. Relaxing on the lanai or in reclining chairs in our 'Jewel on the Sea,' with its multi million dollar view of ever changing sea and sky and turtles below would be enough.
