This new luxury home has spectacular views nearly 360 degrees. The home site is on top of a ridge, overlooking bays, islands and the Olympic Mountains to the south and west and over Victorian Valley and Mount Constitution to the east. The 17 acre property has its own one acre pond. Bald eagles and other birds, deer, rabbits, bullfrogs, and an array of other wildlife abound on the property.
The house has two cedar decks on the south and west exposures and a slate patio on the east. Cathedral ceilings are used throughout the house with radiant floor heating in all rooms. The ultra-modern kitchen has a Dacor oven/range, granite counters and a central island. There is both a fireplace and woodstove. The master bathroom has a jacuzzi, two sinks, and a large, customized shower, tiled in India slate.
Large windows are everywhere to maximize the views, and additional light is afforded by skylights and clerestory windows. The house has satellite TV, VCR, DVD, CD player, and wireless internet access. Several bicycles are available in the garage for use by renters.
The driveway comes off a scenic private road which winds through Victorian Valley and is a pleasant place to stroll and jog. Nearby access to the water affords opportunities for whale watching tours, kayaking, sailing and fishing. Orcas Island is famous for its biking, and hiking and mountain biking trails abound in Moran State Park and Turtleback Mountain.
Eastsound with its quaint shops and restaurants is just seven miles away, and other villages, galleries, pottery shops, beaches, inns, and restaurants are scattered throughout the island.

My friends and I enjoyed this truly lovely, well appointed home. You do need a car, however the Island and ferries are easy to navigate. We enjoyed hiking, kayaking, and simply relaxing as we all have busy lives. We are old friends, now all in different east coast states, and this was a great place to spend time together and enjoy each others company. The views are amazing. Highly recommended.
We could not agree more with the previous reviews for this lovely home. The views are exceptional and the house was built to take advantage of the beauty of Blacktail Ridge. The house is spacious, quiet, kitchen well equipped, plenty of space for relaxing and taking in the beauty of Orcas Island. The owner was responsive, helpful and provided great information to help us plan our visit. We would love to return. Wonderful property.
This home is the most beautiful, peaceful, rental home on Orcas Island, in our opinion!!! We stayed there for the second time at the end of June, with my two 80 plus year old parents, and had the time of our lives! From the moment, you walk into this large, cathedral-ceiled home, you feel peace, happiness and serenity! My parents, who are very selective about where they stay, ABSOLUTELY LOVED, and treasured this home. In fact, she wants to rent it, with my sister and her husband soon. Frequently, I saw my parents, relaxing, soaking up the view, sitting outside, sipping tea, and staring out at the incredible vista of the other islands, water, pine trees and cruise ships! Even though, it was very warm outside, cool ocean breezes would cool down the house every day. We even saw a gentle doe deer, an eagle, rabbit, and myriad of birds that would sing in the trees. My family of five and the grandparents shared many stories together as we sat outside on the comfortable deck furniture, and inside on the comfy, plush living room couch. Every section of this large home, had a cozy, little nook with a couch or chair, that exuded relaxation. The appliances are all very new, and worked great! The Jacuzzi tub and great shower in the master bathroom were another source of relaxation. We always stay at Andy's place when we come to Orcas!!! It is a beautiful, serene place which everyone will love, and want to return to in the future!!!
My husband and I spent two glorious and relaxing weeks staying at Blacktail Ridge on Orcas Island! After spending a few days in bustling Seattle, the change of scenery and atmosphere was like a breath of fresh air. The view from every room of this home is simply amazing, especially when the sun sets!!
Blacktail Ridge had so many delightfully pleasant touches that included cozy sitting areas, oriental rugs on the beautiful wood floors, well stocked kitchen, great music selection, decks on 3 sides, comfortable beds, games and puzzles, etc. etc. But, the best part was what brought us to the San Juan Islands from the midwest---the view!!!
We loved our choice of Orcas Island and Blacktail Ridge----close to the ferry landing and about 15 minutes from the quaint and beautiful town of Eastsound where there is a good grocery store and many restaurants and bakeries. The Island has many opportunities including Moran State Park with great trails and scenery for all levels of hikers. We took a whale watching trip from Eastsound and were fortunate to see many Orca whales and even two humpback whales!
One day we took our car on the inter island ferry to San Juan Island and toured the entire Island with many fascinating stops along the way. Our other trips to San Juan were as walk on passengers to the town of Friday Harbor for a change of pace and different restaurant choices. The ferry rides are part of the great Pacific Northwest adventure!
We have stayed at many VRBO homes, but this one was by far the best in so many different ways!!
2 Couples in our 50's and 60's stayed here. This home is one of he highest elevations in the area for living. Beautiful sunsets, stars, and view of he water below. Very quiet, and with 2 decks, where the back deck/patio has a weber bbq. The kitchen is full of utensils, pans, silver ware, and has a dish washer, microwave, and stove/oven. The front room has a fireplace and a wood stove, and there is wood and kindling covered in the patio area. There a 3 beautiful rooms, and 2 bathrooms with showers, with one bathroom having a jackuzi. There are roads and trails just off of the property that are wonderful for walking and even biking. The location provides easy access to many activities on the island. There are kayak and bike shops, restaurants, and stores/shops to look at and buy things if interested. The owner was very accommodating when we asked if we could just stay 2 nights. He was also very helpful with sending us information about things to do in the area. There is nothing to clean up afterwards except for putting dishes, pans, silverware away clean. There were extra pillows and blankets, and even slippers as it is asked that shoes be taken off in the house. Therefore the entire house is very clean, and has many windows letting in lots of light. There is accessible music in each room, televisions, games to play, and wi fi. And finally, the ferry ride is a comfortable just under one hour ride from Anacortes, which is 1 1/2 hours north of Seattle. Dan/Janice, Chris/Julie
This is my favorite VRBO home we have ever stayed in. Orcas Island is such a magical place, and this house felt like home from the moment we walked in. The pictures don't do it justice. You can tell this house is well loved - the beautiful rugs and furniture, the books - it all feels so modern and comfortable without the kitsch of many other rental houses. Andy is the most friendly and helpful host we have ever dealt with. My kids loved playing outside and were delighted watching deer, bunnies and chickens while we reveled in the gorgeous views and sunsets. Even the neighbors were delightful. We plan to go back to this home again and again and felt truly grateful that we were able to stay there. I would highly, highly recommend!
