Come to Ransome's Chesapeake Retreats 'RCR', a private, 250-acre, waterfront estate with one mile of shoreline on the magnificent Chesapeake Bay of Maryland's Eastern Shore! 'RCR' is the ideal setting for Family vacations & reunions, Weddings, Corporate Seminars/Retreats, Club events and Weekend Getaways. Looking for a unique and 'extra'ordinary vacation location for your family this year? A place to relax in beautiful and peaceful surroundings, yet be 'close to it all'?

Our Chesapeake Bay estate is located just outside Cambridge, a quaint maritime town filled with history and tucked away on Maryland's Eastern Shore. Travel through the countryside James Michener wrote about in 'Chesapeake.' It is the perfect getaway for boating, fishing, golfing, shopping, sightseeing, playing games and just relaxing with family, friends and all who want to have fun while playing and/or working! Our estate offers you an opportunity to enjoy the beautiful Chesapeake Bay shoreline!!

There are miles of walking paths and our boat dock/ramp offers direct access to the bay for water sports. Our facilities offer lots of places to relax and take in the beautiful surroundings - a 10'x 60' screened in porch, where great bay breezes pass thru, that overlooks a fenced-in pool, pond and the Chesapeake Bay itself. There are unparalleled views from all 3 homes and especially from the 2nd floor deck. Here, you can watch the sun come up on 1 side of our world & later that evening see a breathtaking - 'stop what you're doing & watch' sunset go down into the bay!!

Wildlife abounds; the surroundings are picturesque. You can go boating, crabbing and fishing on-site. The Blackwater Wildlife Refuge is our neighbor and offers more paths (for walking, hiking, and biking) and waterways (for canoe and kayaking). Boats, canoes, kayaks and bikes can be rented locally. Want to dine out or need milk, wine, etc - there is a restaurant & a grocery store in the watermen's town of Fishing Creek, just 5 minutes down the road.

Our multi-complex estate has a Family Room and a Great Room in the Main House. There is also a 30' x 30' meeting/rec room in the Fun Center where 40+ people can sit together for meals and/or meetings! Find all the amenities you will need to make memories that last a lifetime. We have thought of everything, so you don't have to!! Come and enjoy all blessings that our estate has in store for you!! Marie & Perce look forward to hearing from YOU!!

Wow! We all fit!

  • 5 of 5

When my extended family started looking for a place where we could all be together for an extended visit, the options were few and far between. We like to plan a group vacation every three years or so... but our group keeps expanding. We have three more little characters added to the role call since the last vacation, and during our week at Ransome's Chesapeake Retreat, we heard news of a new arrival coming by the end of this year!

We were particularly excited to have a separate bedroom for all our families while still being able to use the Main House kitchen to feed everyone.

Days were mostly spent lounging on the screened in porch in the shade enjoying the breeze with a jigsaw puzzle overlooking and talking with anyone who was floating in the pool. But, we are also an active bunch! We rented kayaks and had a rotating schedule of boaters, one of the teenagers hosted a tennis clinic for the younger kids on the tennis court (maybe not a regulation court, but it did the trick), and we enjoyed the bean bag game provided in the game shed. We even caught a few crabs in the traps at the dock.

The nearest town of Cambridge is a bit of a hike (30 mins?), but we found ourselves there almost daily for groceries, or other odds and ends. We were able to find very efficient and responsive medical care when the baby spiked a fever one night. We also traveled to the bird sanctuary trail for a bike ride and over to Hoopers Island for dinner at Old Salty's on our last night together.

Prior to our rental week, the Ransomes were simply a phone call away to answer any question a member of the family had. They gave us a great recommendation for a chartered fishing tour. Once we arrived, they were equally attentive to meet our every need. When the wifi needed to be reset, they helped right away. Thanks, Marie and Percy for all your help!

Wow! We all fit!

  • 5 of 5

My extended family likes to get together every three years or so - and we searched everywhere for a place that would accommodate us all. Since the younger generation is expanding constantly (3 new babies since our last reunion and a special announcement on this trip :-)) we keep looking for vacations where everyone can be comfortable and have a little space of their own. This has become more challenging now that we have over 30 people in the family. Not a lot of rentals have 11+ bedrooms.

Ransome's Chesapeake retreat was the perfect place for us all to gather. We spent most of our time on the screened in porch safe from mosquitoes, enjoying the breeze and ceiling fans while we watched family swim in the pool. The young kids enjoyed the hot tub. My cousin's son played tennis every day and hosted a makeshift clinic for the young kids. We rented kayaks and had daily excursions. We even trapped a few crabs off the dock!

We realized the nearest grocery store in Cambridge, MD was far away - but our group seemed to make a trip out to town every day for things we needed.

Marie and Percy were incredibly attentive to any concerns we had during the week. We had some trouble using the 'love boat' on the property, but I believe they're working out the kinks with that. Also, our wifi needed to be reset during the week. Again, no problem for the Ransomes.

On our last night, we celebrated with a trip to Old Salty's and had a fabulous fish dinner for all.

Thanks, Ransomes, for the memories.

A restful place to relax, and an expansive location to meet with a group - both indoors and outdoors

  • 5 of 5

I hosted a small family reunion at the Ransome Chesapeake Retreat in April 2016 with 15 overnight and 30 day guests. The location was perfect for our event and I highly recommend it. We used the Fun Center to host a lunch gathering and it was perfectly equipped to entertain 30 kids and adults and provide tables and chairs for food and seating. The overnight accommodations were comfortable and there were way more beds and bathrooms than our group could have used - even if all the day guests had spent the night! The owners were very helpful and provided suggestions for places to obtain food and entertainment items. The most notable feature of this excellent property - and there are many - is its access to the bay and the grassy meadows that adjoin it. The property is surrounded by a private nature preserve that allowed us unrestricted access to the views and sounds of the bay from the estate buildings, trails, overlooks, and sandy beaches. We spent much of our time at the sandy cove directly opposite the Main House listening to the wind and the surf, watching osprey and watching the kids catch crabs and collect shells. I highly recommend this location for any family who loves the bay, privacy, nature, a restful place to relax, and an expansive location to meet with a group - both indoors and outdoors.

Perfect Place for a Work Retreat!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at Ransome's Chesapeake Retreat! It's a perfect place for a work retreat. There were great spaces for gathering both indoors and out. Plenty of fun activities to do for all ages - we fished, hiked, played games and had an evening at the fire pit. The peaceful and relaxing setting with great a sunset view cannot be beat. Everyone enjoyed our stay and we'll look to return when we plan our next retreat.

absolutely amazing weekend

  • 5 of 5

It's been 24 hours since my party has left the Ransome Retreat and the feedback I've received has been entirely positive. The most common sentiment I've received is - "wow, how'd you find this place and when can we return?" I want to thank Marie and Percy Ransome for sharing their home with us, as we could not have selected a better location for a reunion. During the entirety of the day, we enjoyed all kinds of outdoor activities, including fishing, relaxing on the sun porch, a game of 'touch' football, and checking out the scenic compound through several well-worn treks. At night, our group congregated by the hot tub and the Game Center, and both locations proved to be ideal locations for the group and allowed our party to spread out and enjoy eachother without feeling like we were hurting for space. I was very appreciative - as was my entire party - that the amenities were up-to-date and all in fine working condition; in fact, the bedrooms were much bigger than I expected and were perfect for sleeping a modest sized group. I would recommend the Retreat to parties where everyone appreciates being together without feeling on-top of one another. There's PLENTY to do, see, and experience, and despite the "stress" of dealing with various logistics related to travel, throughout my stay I felt completely relaxed and at ease. Thank you again to Marie and Percy, we had a wonderful experience and look forward to many future returns.

Beauty on the Chesapeake!

  • 5 of 5

I just returned home after an amazing weekend stay at Ransome Chesapeake Retreats. We had a college reunion with 16 grown men and the accommodations could not have been better. First off, the location is outstanding. Every where you look is water. Your stress level simply melts away as you take in the clean air and the calm bay breeze.

The house(s) are very clean and everyone had practically their own room! We took advantage of the beautiful weather and setting and were outside nearly 80% of the time. The 'Fun Center' was a big hit and countless 'Pong' games were played. We are already discussing brining everyone's family back next year.

Old Salty's is a great restaurant 10 minutes away with phenomenal people and food. I highly recommend renting kayaks or canoes to explore the waterways (one thing we did not do, but will in the future.) If you are having a large group function or family reunion this is the place to go! All of my friends kept asking, where did you find this place! I cannot say enough about the location and will commend Marie Ransome (owner) on her follow up, availability, and need for our group to enjoy ourselves!

We are already identifying our weekend for next year!
