Overview

About the property

3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, Sleeps 6

MCA # 1271. Our place is a charming beach house with lots of wood features: oak floors, pine panelling and cedar cathedral ceilings with skylights. There are two private decks separated by a gazebo with a large spa/hot tub that can easily accommodate six people. The side deck has patio furniture and a new grill perfect for barbecue.

The private, master bedroom has high ceilings and a new, king sized bed with new, excellent mattress and linens, and an adjoining (external) full bathroom. The second and third bedrooms are on the opposite side of the great room/dining room, making it easy for two families to share the house. The second bedroom has a queen sized bed with an Englander mattress (and internal bathroom) and the third bedroom has a trundle bed (two singles) each with a very comfortable mattress. Both the second and third bedrooms face out to the forest.

The house is located at the south end of Manzanita, a quiet residential town with a few great restaurants and shops. We are only half block from one of the most spectacular secluded beaches on Oregon's North Coast. It is bordered on one end by Neahakanie Mountain and on the other by a State Park. The beach ends in a spit and Neahkannie Bay which creates a whole different water landscape than the mighty Pacific Ocean. On the much quieter bay, there is crabbing, seal watching and kayaking.

The house is a 15 minute walk (beach or street) from the town of Manzanita, which is very much in the public eye these days. In 2005, there were articles in Sunset and Coastal Living about this sweet fun town.

Cozy Beach Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We loved the proximity to the beach while feeling tucked away in the woods. The stain glass features and the vaulted ceilings bring such character to the home.

The hot tub was a perfect touch, especially in September with temps in the 50's and 60's in the evening. The beds win the day, however - that was the hardest thing to leave. :) We loved having such a well stocked kitchen plus the grill. It was put to good use. The dining room table became our evening gathering place after the kids were asleep.

We enjoyed several walks to town and my husband enjoyed the 9 hole course up the street as well.

Overall, fantastic stay!

Great access, older home but lots of charm

  • 4 of 5

Property is as described from prior reviews, small, older, but excellent location.

THE HOUSE:

House is well stocked with cooking gear, again, not the most organized or fanciest, but ample supplies. House was also well stocked with plenty of blankets and sheets, and I did not have any issues with the towels having a mildew or moldy small as a prior reviewer commented. The lighting is minimal at night, so prepare to whip out your reading glasses and bring any additional lighting (head lamp?) . No TV, which was fine by our family, and the wifi albeit spotty, was able to stream a video without too many glitches. Big bonus, in my opinion, tons of games (Life Star Wars, Harry Potter Trivia!) and puzzles. The hot tub was amazing and huge, no temperature issues. No area for a firepit, but who needs a fire pit when you have a giant hot tub. Note 1: house did come with a life jacket for 2 and under. Note 2: No fans, ceiling or portable, owner mentioned he may add later on.

THE LOCATION:

This was our first time staying in Manzanita, and we adored the smaller town charm relative to Cannon Beach and Seaside. 1 mile easy flat walk to "downtown", lovely summer Friday Farmer's Markets, and the Pastry shop. Beach access was just as easy, about a 3 minute walk to the entrance of the beach, and another 5 minute walk to get down the the water. Not super steep, but did have a workout hauling all the beach gear.

THE BEACH

We visited on Labor Day, and the beach was not over-crowded at any time. Lots of families, kite/wake surfers, dogs, kites, horses, the typical Coast scene, but very calm and not hectic. Also, not many fires at the beach, so we were not having to skirt a lot of beach firepit debris in the morning.

OVERALL

Highly recommend, this house has fantastic value. Owner was very prompt replying to any questions, and the house has amazing charm.

Fun family getaway

  • 4 of 5

The house is a bit of a throwback to the seventies, with an eclectic mix of furnishings. Nothing fancy, but then we don't go to the ocean for fancy. The beach is very close and very beautiful, and that's what we care most about. The house served us well, and I think is a fair match for its price.

Cozy, Private Beach Cabin Experience

  • 5 of 5

My husband, 5 year old daughter, and two pups rented this cabin for 5 nights in early August 2017.

Inside:

There was plenty of space for all of us and had all the amenities we needed. Despite being small, the kitchen is fully functional and came equipped with plenty of cookware/bake ware, several spices, and odds & ends with which to cook, eat, and bake (I was able to bake a birthday cake for my daughter with ease). The washer and dryer are quick & efficient. The bedrooms are well appointed and it was lovely to get a little fire going in the early mornings and evenings with the firewood supply in the garage. The bathrooms are on the small side and the water pressure wasn't as strong as I would have preferred, but having two sinks and showers worked out nicely.

Outside:

The beach was an easy walk for all five of us. You can even hear the waves crash from the property. This home came full of fun-at-the-beach supplies... sand toys, a kite, bikes, and even a tennis ball for the dogs. We really appreciated the easily-accessible hose by the front door to "leave the sand at the beach" and the backyard/deck areas were sufficient for quiet relaxing. In fact, the patio chairs were more comfortable than the beautiful solid wood kitchen chairs! The hot tub, ie, "hot pool" did not disappoint. The previous tenants left quite a lot of sand in it, but there was a pool wand available for us to clean it out ourselves. On that note, the previous renters also left cigarette butts in the grill burner, so that was gross. Again, this reflected more on the people there before us than the owner. Perhaps have housekeeping check these places as well.

Misc:

Secured WIFI is fast and strong, but a bit unreliable at times. This was fixed by simply unplugging the router and plugging it back in again. Spencer was a great host and extremely responsive to all questions and concerns we had before and after our stay. There are also local contacts posted on the refrigerator for any immediate issues.

My suggestions would be to 1.) have the sectional couch professionally cleaned; 2.) leave a binder/laminate with information such as things to do, property and location details, check-in/out instructions, etc; 3.) leave spare light bulbs in a cupboard accessible to guests; 4.) add some cushions on the kitchen chairs.

Thanks for everything!

Good location close to the beach.

  • 3 of 5

The house is cozy and has almost everything needed for a weekend stay. The living space was compact but it didn't feel like we were on top of each other. The little deck off the living space gave the perfect extension of room, allowing us to move in and out of doors and still be involved in what was going on in the kitchen or living room.

The beds were comfortable and the dining table seated all 6 of us easily, with room for more. The kitchen is galley style and allowed just enough room for two people to be in there without getting in each other's way too badly. We liked how easy it was to get to the beach on a short little walk through dunes to a beautiful expanse of shoreline. The hot tub was fantastic! Morning and evening soaks were enjoyed by all, post breakfast and dinner each day we were there.

The house had a good wipe down; sinks and counters were clean, but honestly the three star rating is because of cleanliness. The towels and house was musty smelling. We fixed that easily enough by airing the rooms; all windows are operational, and by washing the towels and bedding we pulled out of the cupboards. . Window sills, baseboards, lampshades, corners and floors were furry with dust and cobwebs . we tidied up as best we could and made do.

Overall, the place met our needs and we all felt it worked out well. while it won't pass a white glove test, it was a nice place to hang out for a weekend.

Hot tub only 95 degrees...no way to change. Ok otherwise.

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay. The beds were very comfortable. The hot tub is more of a luke warm tub. Access to the beach was very close. I would have given 5 stars if the hot tub was not so disappointing.

Owner's Response: Easy to turn up the hot tub. Reading the guide book in the house or a simple text, email or call would have given you the solution: control is in the garage. How about asking for help before writing reviews?
