Originally from Ohio, we raised our family in Naperville/Chicago IL and here in this forest/nature preserve . We feel strongly that you learn best about people/diversity/cultures in the major urban areas of the World. We feel just as strongly that you learn the most about yourself when you are exposed to the natural world.
Rick Price purchased this lodge in 1985
Where else can you rent 420 acres with a lodge and lake for your private use.
We spent a long weekend at Sleeping Bear Lodge in early March to enjoy the Snowboarding and Skiing at nearby Pine Mountain in Iron Mountain. My three kids loved the cabin and the pool table made for some competitive family fun. The view from the windows are fantastic and the seclusion is second to none.
We will be Back!!
Our stay at the Sleeping Bear Lodge far exceeded all expectations. While snowmobiling in Eagle River and snow tubing at Ski Brule were highlights, we enjoyed snowshoeing and relaxing around the property the most. We also enjoyed conversing with Joe, who takes care of the property and made sure we had everything we needed for the perfect vacation. As part native American, we found his knowledge and respect for the land and wildlife very interesting. We have rented many homes and villas over the years, but found this property's amenities, serenity, privacy, and overall beauty the best. Thank you Rick and Joe for a very memorable vacation, we will be back soon.
We just enjoyed an amazing week at Sleeping Bear Lodge. The pictures do not come close in capturing the overall beauty of this property. While snowmobiling in Eagle River and the new year's eve festivities at Ski Brule were highlights, we enjoyed snowshoeing and relaxing at the property the most. We also enjoyed conversing with Joe, who takes care of the property and makes sure you have everything you need for the perfect vacation. As part native American, we found his knowledge and respect for the land and wildlife in the area very interesting. Over the years, we have rented many homes and villas, but found this property's amenities, serenity, and privacy the best. We found Sleeping Bear Lodge offering the perfect combination of fun outdoor activities and relaxing by the fire while reading a book or playing cards. Thank you Rick(owner) and Joe for a very memorable vacation. We will be back soon.
I pride myself on finding the finest rentals and Sleeping Bear Lodge is hands down the best of the best. The cabin is stocked with every amenity you could hope for from the ultra-comfy beds to heater fans in the bathrooms. There's even a bidet in the master bath. (no kids, that's not a fountain or an eyewash station!) The kitchen has everything you need. Plenty of books and games and entertainment options if you need a break from the natural Eden just outside your door. Being small business owners, we appreciated the Wi-Fi when we needed to keep in touch with the office. The property is a true nature lover's paradise, and very, very private. Our dog loved running on the sand beach and watching the deer that visited the far side of the private lake every day like clockwork. He also took adantage of the posh dog bed in the lower level while we watched DVDs on the large flat screen with surround sound. Gas grill or charcoal? How about both! (bring your own charcoal but propane is provided) We spent hours on the upper level deck enjoying the fresh air and the view of the lake as well as star gazing at night. There is also a fire pit by the beach and plenty of cut wood for burning. There is great hiking and paddling in the area. If you are a hunter, ATV rider or snow mobiler, this is the place for you. 6 miles of trails on the property and many more miles of trails in the immediate area. If you are a golfer, there are several nice courses within 45 minutes of the cabin. Plenty of restaurants and retail within 15 minutes in Iron Mountain, MI.
Joe the caretaker is wonderful man who makes you feel like a friend from the get go. He and his family live just outside the property and can be there in a snap if you need them, yet they give you all of the privacy you desire.
Many thanks to the owners for sharing such a special place and for being dog-friendly. We will certainly return.
This lodge was exactly as described and more. It was very clean, comfortable and quiet. The chairs are awesome! All you need to bring is clothes and food. Everything else is there. The property is very well maintained. The care keepers and owner were very helpful. We would highly recommend this property to anyone who loves the peace of the north woods.
We can't recommend any activities outside the property because we never felt the need to leave. We loved the trails for four wheeling and the gun range. We didn't want to leave and will be going back next year.
We had such relaxing, amazing visit. We stayed for 10 days and we could have stayed longer. The house has wonderful amenities from the kitchen, the laundry and the bathrooms. Lots of towels. Comfortable beds. The outside keeps the kids busy. Canoe and Kayak, sand toys, swings, chairs, hammock. We used it all. The home is immaculately kept with lots of furniture to sit anywhere. An office so you can work from while you are away. We had hummingbirds ALL DAY LONG. We heard owls. There are 2 turtles that the kids loved to try to get near. The grounds were kept so well. You can walk all around the lake and through the trails. Iron Mountain is 15 min. away. Easy trip to the grocery stores. We needed to take a kid to the doctor and there is a late hours clinic at the local hospital. It was very nice. I recommend Sleeping Bear !
