We so enjoyed our stay. We watched a mother duck and her ducklings on the pond. I am sure you know how fortunate you are - you have a wonderful treasure. Thanks so much for sharing it with out family.

Fantastic family getaway!!!

  • 5 of 5

Our family spent a fantastic 7 nights in this beautiful secluded cabin. We had 6 adults and 4 kids, ages 9, 7, 3 & 1. There was plenty of room for all of us. It was so peaceful and relaxing, not one of us missed having access to technology. It was a nice break. The kids loved canoeing in the pond, catching salamanders, riding our side by sides up Middle Mountain Road to explore, walking the close by trails and simply relaxing with playing the games at the cabin or playing cards. We also made a lot of s'mores by the campfire. We really didn't do much traveling when we got there, only made a couple trips to Durango which was only a 45 min drive. We spent pretty much the whole time at the cabin. It was just too relaxing to leave! The view of the stars at night were breathtaking. The chimpmonks were always running around our feet and hummingbirds would fly right up to us like they we're greeting us. So cool! The cabin was well supplied with toiletries and the kitchen was well supplied with cooking utensils. Even though we didn't need to get in touch with Greg or Jan during our stay, they were very helpful and so nice to work with before we got to the cabin. I would definitely come back again and, for sure, recommend this to anyone wanting to get away from it all for some much needed relaxation. I can't express how peaceful and serene it was. Absolutely beautiful!!! Thank you Greg and Jan for offering your cabin on home away!!

fantastic vacation spot!

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful remote , secluded cabin! Thank you for opening up your home to us. Our family get together was amazing here. We had 7 adults, 1 baby and 1 little dog. Plenty of room for everyone! The adult kids enjoyed canoeing in the pond. We all enjoyed the puzzles, playing ping pong and just sitting around the deck or in front of the fireplace. There was plenty of firewood provided. Kitchen well stocked with appliances. Plenty of linen and the beds were very comfortable. We drove up in a van, and got stuck in a couple places driving up. We had to push our way out. During the rains, you definitely will need a 4-wheel drive or a truck. Our van was too low for some spots and had to go very very slow. But don't let that stop you! it was well worth it! The owners were quick to respond to any questions or concerns we had. We would definitely recommend to everyone and we would definitely stay again!

Excellent vacation!

  • 5 of 5

We were 2 couples looking for a getaway from it all vacation, and we wanted to bring our 2 dogs - this was the perfect choice! The description "secluded" attracted us, and the aerial views looked amazing on google maps, but we found this beautiful property to be beyond our expectations. A perfect serene setting, a well appointed and very comfortable house and the picture perfect San Juan National Forest surrounding us. Admittedly, the thought of minimal/if any cell phone coverage and no internet seemed daunting, but it was such a wonderful break (and when we headed to the reservoir - about a 15 min drive - we had coverage). We caught up on reading, did crosswords and completed a few jigsaw puzzles. We loved the freedom for the dogs - they were definitely in doggie heaven - with the pond and fields around the house. The owners asked that we keep the dogs on the first floor, which is the main living area and master BR, and we gated off the upstairs to the other BRs to keep the dogs below - this worked well. The fridge was a tad smaller than standard size, but the owners explained this and we brought along a large cooler we kept in the mud room and picked up ice at the general market as needed (and they have additional coolers in the garage). We loved hiking around the reservoir and ventured to Durango for a day, but we really preferred having our meals at the house and the fun of cooking together. The gas grill and full stove/oven provided all that we needed. We brought along most of our food and the spices we like to cook with, and I must say, made some pretty wonderful meals! While we did not partake of all the games in the garage, it looked like kids would have plenty to do. The owners, Jan and Greg, were excellent help and very responsive as we were planning the trip, and were just a phone call away if needed. They maintain a beautiful and very clean home! We look forward to the opportunity to spend another relaxing week in Secluded!

Quiet getaway

  • 5 of 5

Fantastic four nights way up in the mountains, off the grid, above Vallecito. Went for a wedding and met friends for a reunion. Great time hiking, reading, relaxing. Kids had a blast too. Not super easy to get to . . . but a perfect retreat from busy.

Exactly as Described!

  • 5 of 5

The pictures and descriptions only tell the beginning. This place is absolutely beautiful. My family of 4, including 2 teenagers and 2 dogs, absolutely loved our stay here. The kitchen is fully stocked, the beds comfortable and the views are fantastic. We did all the tourist activities in the Durango/Vallecito area, but our favorite thing to do was getting back to the cabin. Hikes on the many trails or walking the property, playing horseshoes and running the dogs until they were exhausted was the highlight of our days. Evenings were spent on the porch and then inside next to the fireplace. We kept so busy playing and talking that we never even thought about the lack of a T.V. (Please don't ever add one) We had a truck so the last mile and half was never an issue for us, but I'm not sure if I would attempt to bring a car up the last part of the road to the house. The owners answered all of our questions (even the silly ones) and mailed our deposit back the day after we left. Thanks again Greg and Jan, can't wait to come back.

Secluded Mountain Getaway for Some Great Rest & Relaxation

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I along with our 3 dogs and one of our good friends stayed at the cabin over the Memorial Day week 2014. The cabin was perfectly secluded so we could all relax in peace and get away from our daily 9-5 jobs... no cell or internet service until you're on Middle Mountain Road leading to/from the cabin! The cabin sits atop a pretty steep driveway so 4WD was a must for us due to the recent rains. The Phillip's keep a very clean cabin. It was appropriately furnished/stocked with all the major items (fully furnished kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms, living areas) along with a variety of outdoor/indoor games (although we only played cards and attempted the puzzle on the few days it rained...maybe an easier puzzle would be a good idea for those rainy days unless you're a whiz at puzzles!). There was plenty of dry, cut firewood for the cold nights. The pond on the property was ideal for our dogs who could go swimming after our long, hot day hikes in the nearby San Juan National Forest, Weiminuche Wilderness Area, Vallecito Lake or Durango. There are tons of hiking, sightseeing, fishing, etc. possibilities in the nearby areas! The drives to/from town are easy and certainly have beautiful views. Overall, we would highly recommend the Phillip's Middle Mountain Road Cabin to anyone looking for a secluded place in the mountains to get a little R&R!
