This is a great house on a sunny lot in Soda Springs! It is BIG! - almost 3,000 square feet. It is perfect for large family gatherings or getting together with friends. It sleeps 17 people in beds and futons and has 3 1/2 BATHROOMS (that's important)!!! BRING THREE FAMILIES and share the expenses.
For downhill skiers, the house is two miles from Sugar Bowl or Donner Ski Ranch and four miles from Boreal. Northstar, Squaw Valley, and Alpine Meadows are about 30 minutes away. Soda Spings Mountain Resort is a quarter mile away and designed for young kids and families. Royal Gorge, the LARGEST cross country ski resort in North America, is less than a quarter mile from our house.
In the late spring, summer, and fall, there is boating, hiking, fishing, rock climbing, and both mountain and road biking -- something for everyone. HIKERS will enjoy the PACIFIC CREST TRAIL, just two miles from the house. MOUNTAIN BIKERS can experience the HOLE IN THE GROUND single track trail, which is rated 11th in the world for advanced bikers. It actually passes in front of our house. Donner Summit is a ROCK CLIMBERS paradise. There are hundreds of routes on beautiful granite, right off the road two miles from the house. Most are Class 5. Donner Lake is five really beautiful miles away and Ice Lakes (Serene) is two miles away.
The first floor is a bunk room/game room. It is IDEAL FOR TEENAGERS! It has a queen futon, a full futon, and two bunk beds. One of the bunk beds has a full size bed on the bottom. There is also a pool table, a ping-pong table, two TV's, a stereo, a DVD player, and an Xbox. The first floor is heated with a large propane fireplace and has a full bathroom. The entry room on the first floor also has a queen futon and can be closed off for privacy to create a FOURTH bedroom.
The second floor is BEAUTIFUL - very rustic and warm with vaulted, open beam ceilings and lots of windows. It has a "great room" style living room, dining room, and kitchen; a master bedroom and bathroom; a laundry room (laundry soap and fabric sheets are provided); and a half bath. The master bedroom has a queen-size bed. The kitchen is spacious and fully furnished. The living room includes a very efficient propane fireplace.
The third floor has two bedrooms and a full bath. One bedroom has a queen-size bed and the other has a full-size bed.
LINENS ARE INCLUDED for all beds and futons.
We have a sunny front deck and a shady back deck with a gas bar-b-que. The one-car garage has SLEDS and SNOW SHOES as well as places to store your gear. There is also a horse shoe pit and a really cool OFF ROAD GOLF COURSE behind the house. The house is on a road that is plowed well and often. There is parking for five vehicles.
This is a dog friendly home. You know your dog. If you're going to be out all day and leave your dog in the house, make sure he or she can handle that kind of situation. We do not have a fenced yard. There is an additional one-time $25 fee for pets.
We love our house and look forward to our own family gatherings. We really enjoy sharing it with other families and absolutely love hearing about their visits. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

My husband and I love the Tahoe area and we’ve been looking for the right house for years. We found this great house in Soda Springs and talked my parents into buying it with us. Our family has so much fun up there! We like to ski/board, snow shoe, hike, bike, kayak, play horseshoes and cards, eat, drink, and generally enjoy life! Because the house is big, it holds the whole family – three generations. It’s a wonderful place to get together and we really enjoy sharing it with others and hearing their stories!
The Owner purchased this house in 2007
Soda Springs is a really great area. It’s a very small town with a Mom & Pop grocery store, a couple of ski/board rental shops, and sometimes a gas station! Everyone says it’s what Tahoe used to look like. Soda Springs offers the perfect small town atmosphere and we have Truckee, with all of it's ammenities, just 15 minutes away. We have Donner Lake and Ice Lakes within five minutes of the house and a creek a really short walk away. Sugar Bowl, Boreal, Donner Ski Ranch, Soda Springs Ski Resort, and Royal Gorge are between one and five minutes away. We have neighbors, but don’t live in a neighborhood with someone right next door. There are pine trees everywhere!
My family and I stayed at this cabin at the end of October. It was based on a recommendation and we were told that it is absolutely beautiful up there this time of year. This turned out to be very true. We had just had a baby 3 weeks prior and wanted to enjoy our time off as a family (we also have a two year old). During the mornings we were able to walk to the creek that ran not far behind the house, walk through the meadow across the street and wait for trains to pass by (the toddler especially loved this). In the afternoon we relaxed near the gas fire place (that really heats up the place fast) and enjoyed the sun beaming in through the large windows in the front room. The balcony off of the living room was perfect to sit out and enjoy a cup of hot chocolate while our dog roamed around looking for the perfect sun bathing spot. It was nice because the railing is done in such a way the toddler and dog were safe from falling if they got too curious. We would end the day either in the game room downstairs (which is HUGE) or just relaxing watching a movie. The kitchen is beautifully done and opens right up to the living room. It allowed us to walk away for a minute without actually losing site of the kids. It had EVERYTHING we needed. The bedrooms...so flipping awesome. They are decorated very cute and rustic (the one with the hanging pine cones is my favorite). The beds were so incredibly comfortable (we are mattress snobs...if I say they are comfortable....believe me!). There are plenty of bathrooms for a large family and we never had any issues with the water. Oh, and there is a washer and dryer...thank goodness! We enjoyed how close it was to everything (Truckee is a 10 minute drive down the road), but yet far enough away to relax in the quiet. Doner Ski Ranch is just down the road which is the perfect place to teach young kids or beginners (me) how to ski. I look forward to staying up there when there is snow! I do recommend experiencing this cabin at all times of the year based on the hikes that are available (each season will look so different!). The owners were amazing to work with and even sent us an email explaining everything in detail. I would 100% stay here again!
Close to the mountain, this home has everything we desired for a weekend ski stay! Colleen is courteous, professional, and responsive. Our family was comfortable and happy in this place. From kitchen to laundry room to bathroom, anything you may need was there! Thanks, Colleen!
We found this cabin on VRBO and will definitely be coming back with family and friends. It is conveniently located in Soda Springs (less than a mile from Sugar bowl). There is a General store, snow shoe trails, bar, and multiple sledding location with walking distance of the cabin. The cabin is larger than expected with great cabin decore to make you feel cozy and at home. Surprising amount of sleeping space (+15) with lots of activities to keep everyone entertained (ping pong, pool, 2 decks, sleds, snow shoes, multiple decks, tv, etc.). Plus, a covered garage space for convenience and additional parking outside.
Spacious, beautiful home for the entire family with a game room that kept our children occupied throughout our stay. The towels and linen available was a plus. Plenty of hiking trails near by, a general store at walking distance made it very convenient. The only one thing I disliked was the water in all faucets was brown and had we known ahead of time about this would've stocked up on water for consumption. We has some technical trouble with the heater and the Owner was prompt in sending service to fix that issue. All in all... nice place.
Our overall stay was pretty nice. There were 2 downsize to this place, which was it being on the main street and the water was yellow. I talked to Colleen and she said it's because of the drought and all the neighbors have the same problem. So we end up buying extra water for cooking and drinking purposes. Wasn't fun showering with yellow water either. The water pressure was so low, if there's 2 running faucets, or 2 showers running at the same time. One of the water pressure will drop, and literally just water trickling out. If this can be fixed, the property deserves 5 stars. There was enough room for everyone to have their own space, and the kitchen was airy. The back/front porch are awesome! And colleen was able to book us for an extra night at the last min, so thoughtful of her and her husband.
So over all great trip, would do again of they fixed the water issue.
House was very nice, clean and comfortable. Had a lot of fun with all the games. Owners were very responsive to all our questions, if in the area again would rent the same home.
