About The Owner

I love grilling up a mess of shrimp and mullet at sunset! Especially after a day of kayaking or horseback riding on the beach. I never seem to have enough shrimp, though, no matter how much I overestimate. Marinate them in Jamaican Jerk sauce and there won't be a single one left, I promise!

The Owner purchased this house in 2004

Why The Owner chose Florida Panhandle

We chose Cape San Blas for our vacation home because it reminded us so much of how 'old Florida' used to look 50 years ago all up and down the panhandle. I grew up in Pensacola and have enjoyed the Gulf Coast all my life, and this is one of the few areas that hasn't been completely overrun by condos. It still has that certain feel of peaceful family togetherness that you can really only get when you're away from it all.

What makes this house unique

Some of the benefits of staying at Mimi's Sandcastle include:

* Gorgeous, wide open beaches without the crowds. No condos = fewer people.

* 10 minute drive to a REAL oyster bar (The Indian Pass Raw Bar), where you can take your catch and grill it on the outdoor pit while enjoying your favorite beverage and getting to know the locals. Or, go inside and order up a dozen raw, steamed, baked, however you like 'em!

* We're directly on the beach, with boardwalk access from the top deck, which provides easy access to the beach for everyone, including small children and those who use a wheelchair.

This is one of the nicest Gulf beach rentals I've ever seen. Suitable for a crowd without feeling crowded. Separate apartment allows for privacy when desired. Spacious, comfortable and tastefully furnished and decorated. Natural setting provides backdrop for relaxing vacation.

What a disappointment

  • 2 of 5

What a disappointment! Doesn't look like the beautiful pictures anymore. This property is rundown and verging on shabby. One bedroom had a leak in the ceiling the entire stay, even though the property manager was notified. Mold in the bathroom; the facia on the kitchen cabinets is peeling off; carpets are very stained; the kitchen didn't even have a working can opener, although there were dishes galore. Lower level coffee pot has a burned out burner and doesn't keep coffee hot; Several members of the family found sand in their beds the first night suggesting they weren't clean; used bar soap in the bathrooms; 1/2 inch standing water on the deck; very poor floor plan and layout that doesn't really show in the pictures, and the elevator isn't really helpful and quite loud, making it impractical if you don't have a physically challenged person in your party. This home greatly needs some TLC and maintenance. We have been doing beach vacations for 20 years, and this home is the worst property we've encountered. Very disappointing after spending so much.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for the detailed feedback! We will take corrective action immediately, and I have already contacted our property manager. I'm sorry you had a bad experience, and am happy to offer a good-faith discount on a future stay, as an apology. Shoot me an email, if that would be helpful.

Hand in hand, on the edge of the sand, they danced by the light of the moon.

My husband and I were married at Mimi's Sandcastle in March of 2012. (I know this review is a little late, but I am reminiscing a little tonight.) We had the most wonderful experience at this beach home. I graduated from high school at Port St. Joe High School, and moved to North Dakota shortly after to be with my boyfriend (husband now.) We he proposed, we decided to have a destination wedding on Cape San Blas. We had a group of 14 people that would be staying together. I couldn't think of a better place than Mimi's Sandcastle. The beach was amazing, and the gazebo was PERFECT for our wedding photos. Best. Place. Ever. Don't hesitate to book your stay!!
