We rented this beautiful log home to celebrate our family's 2006 Christmas Get-together & could not have been more pleased! Not only does this lodge offer the space necessary to accomadate all of our 17 family members comfortably, but it has an absolutely gorgeous private setting which offers plenty of bonuses!! The children had plenty of play/running room in the full basement with lots of recreational activities & the adults had plenty of quiet/gathering room in the huge main room upstairs. An absolute must see!! Thank you for the opportunity to enjoy your home!! The Potters

Never returned our deposit!

  • 4 of 5

We rented this amazing location for our wedding. It was a perfect location. There was some changes since rental (they took down some trees lining the property so you can now see the neighbor), but it was an amazing location. We had 95 guests and it still felt like so much space! We had the ceremony over looking the water and had the tent in the back, as we wanted the whole wedding to be around the beautiful view! We even had everyone back over the next morning for brunch, as we still had the tent.

We had our rehearsal dinner the night prior, which we used the grill and fire pit for the perfect night. The day of the wedding, the cabin allowed for the perfect set up. The guys got ready in the basement and the girls upstairs. We did pictures at the cabin and in town. I can't say enough good things about this location for a wedding.

We had no issues with communication with the owner before and during the stay. However, we never received our damage deposit. We cleaned the entire cabin and left no damages to the property. I have tried to contact the owner multiple times about this and have not heard back. It has been almost two months. Please make sure that if you are on a budget, that you just don't expect to get it back.

Perfect venue for our wedding!

  • 5 of 5

We rented this house for 5 nights to throw the wedding of a lifetime. It was the perfect place with the perfect atmosphere. We had up to 25 people at one time (some were kids) stay in the cabin throughout the long weekend and we never felt cramped. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you could need, and the large pantry and 2 refrigerators provided ample space for all of our food. We kicked off the wedding festivities with a rehearsal/pizza dinner/bonfire for all of our family and out of town guests - close to 70. It was perfect! The fire pit and grassy area out front were the perfect location as the backyard and beach were already being staged for the wedding. We had the ceremony on the beach, under an arch we brought ourselves, followed by a reception under a tent in the backyard. We had 125 guests and the venue was perfect! We put a lot of work into making it the perfect spot, with a Uhaul-full of decorations and lights, but it was well worth the effort. Our decorations coupled with the beautiful backdrop of Lake Huron made for a magical setting that everyone could not stop commenting on. We had a little rain throughout the day, but were lucky enough to have the dance floor under the trees so no one really noticed or cared.

The owner is a dream to work with. Very accommodating and always available if you need anything. We arrived to a spotless house with everything we could need. We researched the entire state of Michigan, and this was by far the best place we could find on any lake that would allow a wedding of our size and house our immediate families.

If you're planning a wedding, we highly recommend Crown Party Rentals in Port Huron for a tent or any other rental needs. As well as Foley's Market in Lexington for alcohol and ice (they delivered multiple times throughout the night!).

Thank you for letting our wedding come to life at the perfect location that we thought only existed in our dreams!

Our Second Stay

  • 4 of 5

The title of this review says a lot. We came back. I think that this place rates four stars but my wife thinks three. Like any place, there are positives and negatives. The location is great with wonderful views of Lake Huron. We saw the lake with whitecaps and placid, it changes quickly. The beach is sand, but turns rocky as you enter the water. Be careful if you wish to beach your boat or watercraft. The deck overlooking the lake is nice, and there is a lot of space for lawn games too. Since our first use of this house in 2009, some of the furniture has become worn and showing rips and stains. The mattresses are good but the pillows need replacement. You might wish to bring your own. Read the listing carefully and you'll find under "Other Amenities" that there is an extra charge for the linens. Hardly an amenity. Frankly, it's not practical to bring your own sheets. I suggest that the property owner adjust the rental charge to include the linens and cleaning fee rather than show them individually. Cell phone reception is poor and we never found the telephone that the listing shows. We used the ping pong and pool tables in the basement, particularly when we had some rain and it was good that they were available. There is plenty of silverware and glassware, and probably too many utensils. The pots and pans show a lot of use and some should be replaced. It fact, the kitchen could use some organization. The house provides plenty of space for eating and just sitting around and relaxing, and on a couple of occasions, the air conditioning was very welcome. There are two refrigerators which was a good thing since the one in the kitchen was slow to get cool initially. The microwave works but the controls are confusing. The oven and cooking top are electric and they took some getting used to. The oven temperature may not be accurate. The washer/dryer is a relatively small combo unit so don't plan on doing a lot of laundry. Fortunately, there is a new laundry place in Lexington. The village of Lexington is very nice, with shopping and a couple of interesting brew houses and restaurants. You can't beat the pizza at Steiss's and the Windjammer offers a full menu and a great harbor view. Wimpy's is a fixture in town and usually very busy. Consider ordering for carryout. Bunny's about five miles south of Lexington on M-25 has great custard. We enjoyed our 2015 family reunion here.

We were lucky enough to have our wedding here Memorial Weekend 2015. The weather was flawless and the yard, beach, and house were all very nice. Everybody said it was the perfect wedding! We set up for the ceremony on the beach and reception on the bluff overlooking the lake. The property is very private with neighboring houses on one side. A few neighbors were up vacationing but they relocated to the back yard during the wedding to give us some privacy. They were very friendly and not angry with us at all. We had about 80 people attend. The house and yard was large enough to comfortably accommodate everyone with plenty of room for parking vehicles on the front lawn. The house was very clean inside and the grass was cut a few days before we arrived. There was plenty of room for people to sleep in the house… I think we had 10 or 15 stay the night.

The owner, Peter, is a super nice guy and very easy to work with. I initially called him to ask if he still allowed weddings at the house thinking he would say no, charge more money, or limit us to 50 people. Not the case. He was very inviting and accommodating, even hooking me up with a tent rental company in the area. It was actually his suggestion to invite more than 70 people! It was a big relief to hear him say that. He offered to let us walk around the property a few months before the wedding to take measurements and help us get an idea of where to set everything up. He didn’t have to do that but it really helped us out. Shortly after we arrived the caretaker stopped by to see if we needed anything. I’m glad he did because I was about to have a buddy pick up some firewood, but he told us to use the wood next to the garage. Then he invited us to have the fire down at the beach! …and we did. It was a perfect ending to a perfect night. Upon cleaning up before leaving we accidentally sent some of the house silverware home with the catering company. Naturally, I got a call from Peter. He was super cool about the whole thing. That pretty much says it all.

Renting this house was the easiest part of planning our wedding. It was also the best part of the wedding. I have researched a bit... and I think it’s the only house with Lake Huron frontage that allows weddings, at least from Port Sanilac south to Lakeport.
