Enjoy our newly furnished cabin on a quiet dirt road, with lakefront on beautiful Keeler Bay in Lake Champlain. Perfect for a family or a quiet lakeside vacation which offers fishing, canoeing or biking. Walk to snack bar, close to Sand Bar State Park, ferry to NY and 20 minutes from downtown Burlington.
Beautiful scenic setting: Our newly renovated cabin is a very comfortable, family-friendly, getaway on beautiful Lake Champlain. The kitchen has all amenities - cook in or outside on the gas BBQ. Our new dock has a boat lift and a ladder for easy lake access. Convenient concrete stairs also lead directly from the yard into the lake. A canoe with paddles, kayak, and life jackets are available for your use. Bike 1/2 mile into South Hero for pizza or antiquing. After dinner walk to the creemee stand for dessert! Its close proximity makes for a quick and easy drive to Burlington for the day. South Hero State Park, a public golf course and a boat launch are nearby. Your canine family member is also welcome.
Eddie and I love life on the lake! The cabin comes with a 17 foot Alumicraft canoe and two small kayaks for your use. Use our boat lift for any small motor boat you might trailer in. In addition to swimming, we love to hike, bikes, and take long walks - all of which are easy from the cabin. Lucky for us, we're close to the fine restaurants, movies, and shopping in Burlington without having to living in the city.
We've loved meeting guests from around the world and hosted folks from South America, Europe, Canada, Cyprus and all over the US. We've made sure the cabin is child friendly - having raised 4 of our own kids and now we have 3 grandchildren!
Jane purchased this cabin in 2006
Carter Lane is a quiet little dirt road just as you enter South Hero from Colchester. We fell in love with the cabin because it's right on love Keeler Bay which is quiet, has great fishing and is protected from the rough open waters of Lake Champlain.
The cabin is simple with a rustic feel. We love to dine in on the screened porch or dine out on the patio right on the lake.
The owners are very welcoming and were there in-person when I arrived to answer any questions I had and give me a tour of the camp. The cabin is lovely, with high ceilings and a very comfortable screened-in porch. Their waterfront is well-equipped with a solid dock and various watercraft. They've done a great job raking water weeds, providing a clear path to dip in a fishing line or go swimming. The location is very close to central South Hero and its fabulous pizza at Pan's South Hero Pizza. Other conveniences in town are groceries & booze at Keeler Bay Variety, a drug store (closed on Sundays), Seb's Snack Bar, and the Blue Paddle Bistro. In all, I had a great time and hope to be back next summer!
My husband and I stayed in this adorable cabin last September with our grown daughter and foud it to be a perfect spot to unplug and unwind. With our son at UVM and Burlington just 20 minutes away, we were able to vist him as well as discover all that Burlington has to offer. The cabin itself is very quiet and cozy. The kitchen was my favorite spot as I could be cooking (my passion) while overlooking the lake. The bedrooms are comfortable and when the weather got cooler, the heater kept us nice and warm. We took a day trip up to Montreal - defiintely suggest doing this, it's a great city with so much to see and fabulous open markets and an easy drive. The hammock on the porch was the hot spot. Reading inevitably lead to long afternoon naps. Having a canoe and kyaks at our disposal allowed us some fun time to paddle around and explore Keeler Bay. We'd love to come back to Jane & Eddie's cabin. When things get crazy at home, I go back to the lake in my mind and it's all good!
We've rented Jane and Eddie's wonderful cabin for two weeks the past three summers, and my family of four thinks it's just perfect. It's a bright, cheery space right on the water. Standing in the living room looking out, you see lake not land. It's like being on a boat, and it's very relaxing.
Our favorite room in the cabin is the screened in porch, which includes, among other things, a hammock we race to claim and a table we eat at, color at, have our morning coffee at. We live on the porch.
The swimming in front of the cabin's very nice. With kids, it's great because the water's shallow and generally calm, so easy to walk right into. There's also great swimming a mile or so down the road at Sandbar State Park, also great for kids.
Other attractions we like in the area include Burlington (a 20 minute drive), North Hero (a 15 minute drive), and the Allenholm Farm maple creemee stand (a 3 minute drive). There's a very good restaurant, The Blue Paddle, within walking distance.
As it starts to get colder in Brooklyn, my family starts talking more about South Hero and this cabin. We're already looking forward to returning next August. Thanks, Jane and Eddie, for the perfect cabin.
We just unpacked the car after another wonderful week on Keeler Bay. Five years ago, we saw the HomeAway posting and with fingers crossed, we made our first visit to this site in South Hero with our then three-year old. The cabin, location, and the general area, all exceeded our expectations and were accurately described in the listing. The cabin is spotlessly clean, comfortably furnished, with a beautiful yard and incredible lake front views and access. The owners are a remarkable team who have become our friends over the years. Our son - now 8 - can't wait until we head up to the lake each summer.
A few times our visit was around July 4th and we got to enjoy the South Hero Independence Day Parade. More recently, we've gone up in late August - just in time for the Champlain Valley Fair with a range of livestock attractions, a kid-friendly midway, and lots of local treats.
We love the area for the excellent kayaking, maple creemees, Island Ice Cream, and the very relaxed atmosphere. We usually cook on the grill - so haven't tried many of the local places - but the fresh produce at the weekly farmers market and at Hackett's Orchard on South Street is always great. And there is even a drive-in theater less than a 1/2 hour away!
On the drive back today - our son was already plotting our next visit. We strongly recommend this lovely cabin on Keeler Bay!
Cozy cottage with 60 feet of frontage on Lake Champlain. The gradual grade and convenient dock make the waterfront excellent for children. Use our boat lift for your small motor boat or tie up at the dock. 2 kayaks and a canoe are available for your use. The cabin has an open living/dining room, large screened porch for dining or relaxing, kitchen and bathroom with shower. There are two bedrooms - one with a full-sized bed and the other a queen. Walk or bike 1/2 mile into South Hero for ice cream at Seb's snack bar or dinner at the Blue Paddle. Convenient to public boating access and an easy (20 minutes) drive to Burlington. Enjoy free concerts each Thursday night at nearby Snowfarm Vineyard.
