About The Owner

Ryan (16), Nathan (14), Gavin (9), Weston (8), Emma (14) and Parker (14).

The Owner purchased this house in 2006

Why The Owner chose Manteo

'When are we going to get there,' is what we heard from the backseat as we headed down the road to OBX about 10 years ago. When these six children finally got there, they discovered the many adventures that OBX offered. And, Pirate's Cove seemed like the perfect place to drop anchor. We want to share our little oasis with the many travelers that choose the Outer Banks. The six kids live in Roanoke, VA with their beautiful moms and fishing crazy fathers. One day we will get there again, ENJOY!

What makes this house unique

Did I mention the views. The gorgeous sunsets over Manteo, the continuous parade of fishing boats. Two pools, a fitness center, two play areas, tennis courts, a marina, a restaurant and raw bar and that's not even leaving the campus. Great for biking, walking, strolling or generally just hanging out with a Coca-Cola looking over the Roanoke Sound and contemplating life's next adventure. Which could be the Aquarium, the Sand Dunes, the Beach, Kitty Hawk Kites, the Wright Brothers Memorial, a great restaurant, the Tanger Outlets, the Whalebone Tackle Shop, the cute shops in Manteo, etc.

I wanted to cry

  • 1 of 5

We arrived at the house and noticed roofing nails all over the driveway. There was garbage left under the house from the last renters. There was poison ivy growing near the entryway steps. The house was dirty when we got there. We had to wait for housekeeping to clean. Supposedly they already had cleaned when the last renters left but there was sand and food crumbs, what looked to be salsa, chocolate, and others debri on the floor. There was trash left inside the house that we if to take out when we got there. There was even a piece of salami stuck to the dining room chair. Which brings me to the furniture. The leather dining room chairs are taped together and the living room couches are dingy and falling apart. A door stop had fallen off and a screw was sticking out of the floor molding, we feared our kids cutting their feet. There are broken pieces of furniture in the bedrooms with lamp shades that have holes in them. There is a very large moldy spot on the downstairs King suite bathroom ceiling. The towels were very small and ratty and we were only given one washcloth per room. We went out and bought towels and washcloths. We also had to buy draining fluid to get the upstairs bathtub to drain because there was so much debris in the drain. We had to rewash many of the dishes that we pulled out of the cabinet. I would say that 70% or more of the lightbulbs were out. I had to email to get the network name for the internet, it was not as listed in the welcome letter. We also had to hook up the cable box and water at the wet bar before using. The sleeper sofa in the basement did not appear fit to sleep on. We have rented in Pirates Cove several times a year for the last ten years and I have never been so disappointed in a rental.

Great house for a group

  • 5 of 5

We rented this house for a family beach wedding and it was perfect for a large group. It was within walking distance of the reception at Pirate's Cove and a short drive to the Pier for the ceremony. It was spacious, the rooms were large, the house was very clean, with lovely views. We never felt like we were on top of each other.

The owner was responsive to any questions. I only wish it had been during the summer months to take advantage of all the amenities. Great house.

Beautiful view and great location, but didn't fit our group

  • 3 of 5

This home is in such a beautiful spot. The decks and sound access are wonderful. The location is perfect for enjoying the Outer Banks. The neighborhood is very cute and good for biking or running. We had no problems accessing the pool as another group did. However, the home is advertised as sleeping 12, which is not in fact true. The number comes from adding in a sleeper sofa that is in an unfinished basement that smells, and my father described the mattress as "rotten." Which means that he spent the week on the couch. The bunk room has four beds, but the top two bunks cannot be used if you want to turn on the ceiling fan. And the fan was much needed in August. Which meant that we had to put one mattress on the floor in between the bunk beds and another in the hallway. If it weren't for the fact that one person slept in the hall and another on the living room couch, I would have given the house five stars. But those sleeping arrangements warrant a pretty severe downgrade. If you have a group of eight or less, you will be perfectly happy. If you have more than ten, you should look for another home.

Beautiful Beautiful House!

  • 4 of 5

I loved the house, it was just as advertised! The rooms were neat and jammed packed with everything you need, even games! Loved the free wi-fi and hot tub!!!!! All of my friends felt at home and there was enough room for everyone to relax.

Only gave it a 4/5 because of a few preventable hick ups (i.e. no pool excess as advertised and minor power issues), that should have been checked up on before we checked in. Also watch out for the back door locks they are beyond hard to lock, I'd advise to only use the one door that leads out to the hot tub. Also wash the dishes before use.

**Would recommend**
