Luxury Cottage Style Stone House in Beautiful Location on Mizen Head Peninsula

Bedrooms 3
Space 180 m²
Property type house
Minimum Stay 4 nights

About the property

3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms sleeps 6 plus cot

The House at Libeen is situated 6 miles from Schull on the Mizen Peninsula in an elevated position with wonderful views from all windows over Dunmanus Bay, the Sheeps Head Peninsula, and Mount Gabriel.

It is a cottage style, stone built house in an acre garden which is totally enclosed by old stone walls where wild fuchsia grows in profusion.

The house is light, spacious, and furnished to a very high standard. It is well equipped, and can sleep 6 plus a baby very comfortably. The location is well placed to access Schull, Ballydehob (5 miles), and Baltimore (12 miles) on the Roaring Water Bay side of the peninsula as well as Bantry (7 miles), Glengariff (12 miles) and beyond on the Dunmanus Bay side, all of which have many excellent pubs and gourmet restaurants. The countryside around is beautiful and rugged and is good for hill walking and cycling. There are excellent golf courses in Bantry, Glengariff and Skibbereen plus lovely sandy beaches around Crookhaven and Barley Cove.

Hill Walkers Paradise: Our house is situated in immediate proximity to The South Durrus and Mount Corrin Trail. There are fabulous views along this trail of Dunmanus Bay, Roaring Water Bay and the Mizen Peninsula - a must for those who like walking.

Guestbook comments from the owner

we Berliners enjoyed our stay so much! The place and the house were so wunderful. We have never had before such a silence. And in the night we could tuch the stars with the hands.

We stayed in the years ago in houses in Uruguay, Sweden and Spain. But yours (including the perfect garden) is really in the best situation, such a lovley atmosphere inside, like home.

Thank you!

This property is gorgeous, clean, comfortable, well appointed, and sits perfectly in its surroundings. My wife and I, her daughter, son in-law, granddaughter, and my wife's best friend stayed 10 days at the Libeen house. We had the best time. The Mizzen peninsula is beautiful, peaceful, and full of breath-taking hikes and nearby villages on the water that are dreamy, clean and colorful. We found everyone to be happy, friendly and helpful. Once at Libeen House, you won't want to leave!

Excellent stay!

  • 5 of 5

We spent an amazing 2 weeks in this stunning house in Libeen.

The views of Dunmanus Bay are excellent, the setting is stunning and its location is also very good, with the nearest town with everything you need (shop, pubs, post office etc.) only a 5 minute drive away.

The house itself is obviously very well maintained and has all the facilities you'll need. The rooms were big, bright and tastefully furnished and decorated, and the conservatory was great for watching the sun go down over the bay.

I cannot recommend this place enough. I'd love to go back.

We spent 2 wonderful weeks in Catherine's and Ernie's House in Libeen. The pictures on the website show really what you get and even more! Nothing missed, neither the charming luxury of the house nor the fantastic environment. It's a wonderful, spacious house, furnished with everything you need. We didn't miss a thing!

We spent 3 weeks in this fantastic traditional stone house. It is tastful designed, has a warm atmosphere, is very clean, absolutely quiet and is very well equipped. We did not miss anything there. We really felt like home from the first moment.

The location of the house is spectacular. It offers great views - above all to Dunmanus Bay. The countryside feels like a huge garden. Blooming flowers everywhere. The people are very friendly and helpful.

For those who like fishing from the shore I can say I havn't found better places ever than on Mizen Head peninsula (sea bass, pollack, mullet, mackerel...).

More than a home away from home

  • 5 of 5

We (family of 5 with 3 kids, 5 to 10) just spent 2 weeks in Libeen and did not regret a moment though the weather could have been really better. But the house (and the large garden) were much more than the photos promised.

The good working central heating and the dryer and the fire place as well warmed us and our clothes after some wet weather experiences.

Already in advance Catherines emails gave us feeling to be welcome in their retreat, so did her call (and that of her housekeeper) on our day of arrival to check everything is ok. As there are family fotos on the walls, fridge etc and other personal details, you have always have the feeling to visit friends and to stay in an exchangeable rental. (And were else do you find wet suits and beach toys for the children).

Our children loved the garden, in which they played with fairies and leprechauds (at least in their imagination). The lawn (when it was dry) invited them to roll down the hill.

The conservatory was our faverorite place in the morning - if no wider sights were possible due to rain and/or fog at least a bunch of rabbits entertained us. Next to this the very comfortable sofa was much in use as it offred enough space for all of us to read a book to the children.

There could be told much more, but I only can invite to make an own impression, if you are looking for a comfortable retreat (and if you are adventurous enough to drive up along steep single track - which has been the only disadvantage for me and was giving me my daily dosis of adrenalin).

The Mizen Peninsula is at Ireland's most south-westerly point and is a rugged and beautiful area with many islands off the coastline, which can be discovered via ferries from Schull and Baltimore. There are many ancient sites with stone rings, castles and wedge tombs as well as mountains, sandy beaches and rocky coves.

Dolphins, Minke whales and seals are regularly sighted from the cliffs around the Mizen. If fresh fish is your fancy, there are many options: Boats can be hired in Schull to catch your own Mackerel or Pollack - we have found the waters around Schull to be teeming with these fish in Summer. Alternatively a wide range of locally caught prawns, lobsters and other fish can be bought direct from the fishermen as they land them at a number of local harbours.

Other Activities: sea kayaking
