We are a family of 4 who have been coming to Acadia every year since 1989. Jim came to visit Acadia National Park as part of a Field Biology class for college and fell in love with Acadia. When Robyn graduated from college, he wanted to take her somewhere special, and so we went to Acadia. We fell in love with the beautiful mountains and cliffs that overlook oceans, the lakes and the woods, and just enjoying nature. We loved the lighthouse and the natural seawall that are nearby. We also enjoyed the laid-back, slower lifestyle of the Down-easter’s. We loved Acadia so much, that we purchased a piece of land with the hopes of retiring in Acadia some day. We were fortunate enough to be able to build a home on that land and begin using it in 2006 and offer you the chance, as well, to use it also to enjoy the piece of heaven we found in Acadia. Our family loves to vacation here each year, and we know that once you visit, you will love Acadia, too!
Robyn and Jim purchased this house in 2006
Our home is in a quiet, wooded area where you can enjoy wildlife as well as peace and quiet. We like to watch the birds, deers, squirrels, chipmunks, and rabbits. We have seen a fox and coyote also. We also enjoy the wild flowers in the garden as well as the humming birds and dragonflies that visit daily. Our neighborhood is safe. Children can ride bikes in the neighborhood since it is off the main road and has very little traffic. We love that we are close to many Acadia National Park areas, especially Echo Lake, Seawall (great place to see shooting stars), and Bass Harbor Lighthouse, yet not in the noisy, crowded areas at night when we wish to get a good night's rest for the next days activities. We can even ride our bikes to the town post office to catch the FREE Island Explorer bus. These buses are the Best deal on the island. We love hiking the near-by trails and looking at the Milky Way at night. You have never seen so many stars, except maybe at a planetarium.
We have gone out of our way to make our home comfortable for you and ourselves. Our home is much more than just a rental. We also use this house for vacation, so you know it's comfortable and well stocked. We have added many, many extras such as nightlights, flashlights, extra supplies in case you forget to buy them the 1st time you are at the market. There are even cookbooks, DVD's, Books, Games, and puzzles (great for rainy days). We have an overflowing Welcome Package chalked full of ideas for your vacation. We also enjoy using the picnic table and grill to enjoy the outdoors and wildflower garden.

We have been coming here each year since 2006. We always find the house very clean and comfortable even the beds. The house is always well stocked with linen, bath towels, kitchens towels, etc. and everything you would need for cooking, grilling, & baking. Thank you for the many extras (night lights, flashlights, spices, foil, plastic wrap, etc). We appreciate the folder with things to do and places to eat. We find your house to be in a peaceful/quiet neighborhood and yet close to town to do shopping, dining, and antiquing. But also wonderfully located to do hiking, biking, boating, fishing, and exploring in Acadia National Park.

Thank you for the kind words and for staying with us each year. We have tried hard to make our home be your home away from home with all the same comforts and keeping it well stocked.
We had the absolute pleasure of staying in this cozy home this past summer. We are a family of five with three teenage boys and this house was perfect for us. The kitchen was clean and had everything you would need. The rest of the house was very well maintained and clean and also gave us everything we needed for our family getaway. The owners were a delight to deal with and very helpful and informative. Robyn gave us some great suggestions on places to visit, explore and great local restaurants. She was so kind and 100% reachable that I left there feeling as though I made a new friend! We took her advice on everything she mentioned and we were not disappointed at all. Arcadia is absolutely gorgeous and there is so much to see and do there. I was a little nervous that my adventure seeking sons would not have enough to do but that was not the case at all. Their home is very cozy and just a short travel distance from so many beautiful places to explore. Don't miss Cadillac mountain at sunset, absolutely breath taking views. I highly recommend staying in this home, you will not be disappointed.
We had a great stay in this clean and comfortable home in a quiet location. The home had everything we needed for the week. The owners, Jim and Robyn, communicated very well with questions we had prior to renting and also provided a tremendous amount of information on what to do during our visit. We would recommend the property to others and would stay there again for a return trip. The property is located within a short drive to Acadia National Park where we enjoyed hiking and biking. Wonderful property and owners.
We loved this home, great for our family with plenty of safe space for the kids to run and play. I noticed another review with allergies, I also had some asthma allergy problems while we were inside the house. Overall it was everything we wanted and more. Great recommendations for local activities and fully furnished home with everything you would have in your own house.
This house is in a very quiet location and very clean and cozy. It is close to a lot of attractions and nothing more than 20- 25 minutes away. The loudest noise outside were the birds singing. We even were able to watch a squirrel or two as we ate our breakfast. The only draw back about this vacation was we did not allow enough time to see and do everything. Robyn was very helpful answering all our questions and also letting a lot of information on the kitchen table for us to look through. Hence the reason we did not allow enough time. We will be coming back to Southwest Harbor and staying here. Must see: Views from Loop road, Bar harbor, Seawall, Cadillac mountain, Ravenwood, and the Down East Lobster pound on route 3 west/south from the house.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time on Mt. Desert Island this summer. The weather and views were great. There was plenty to do to keep our family of five very busy. I was very happy the this home was not directly on a busy street so that we could here the birds chirping in the morning with the windows open. I would have loved if there were a porch to sit on and eat breakfast, or a sliding glass door. The kitchen had everything one would need to cook or bake and the owners are wonderful. The owners stayed in contact and were very reachable to answer any information that was needed. There were no pets allowed, which is great because my son has allergies, but he sneezed the entire time we were there, so I am assuming there was an animal there in the recent past, but this is something that is out of anyone's control. We liked being in Southwest Harbor and loved the little Market (Sawyer's Market) downtown. It is really a quaint place and I'd love to stay in Southwest Harbor again, maybe in walking distance of downtown... Next time I will plan on cooking more and eating out less in Bar Harbor!!
My family had a great week in Southwest Harbor. The house is clean, well equipped and convenient to all that Acadia has to offer. It's truly in a quiet, wooded setting and very peaceful. Southwest Harbor is definitely where you want to be if you're looking for a less hectic setting to experience Acadia National Park! We'll be looking to return and would rent this home again, for sure. You will not be disappointed.
