About Inger Jirby

Inger Jirby's life has been as rich, dramatic and exotic as her art. She was born in the far north of Sweden, above the Artic Circle in Lapland, a place of blazing autumnal colors and great cultural traditions. "I prefer to work outdoors on location. I love to interact with nature and Taos is a perfect place to do what I love the most," she says. "Taos, New Mexico has been a cultural center over a hundred years. New Mexico is the perfect place for a landscape painter and I am first and foremost a landscape painter."

Inger Jirby purchased this cottage in 1998

Why Inger Jirby chose New Mexico

The location is absolutely charming, on the quiet, quaint and conveniently-located Historic Ledoux Street. People are always telling me that they love to stay here, and wish that they could stay longer! It's a wonderful arrangement; guests of our casitas can also check out my gallery, and collectors of my paintings can also be put up in comfort while they are in town.

What makes this cottage unique

My guest houses, besides their location on a historic street next to a world-famous art gallery, are also the most centrally located lodgings in town, within walking distance to Taos Plaza and its array of restaurants, galleries, museums, studios and shops.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We spent two nights in this lovely and cozy casita- especially enjoyed the fabulous paintings and crafts throughout the house, great taste. This was ideal for us, walking to plaza and to Antonio's. The casita was comfortable and we got the R & R we so needed. Thank you Inger.

Nice Casita but no AC

  • 3 of 5

The Casita itself is beautiful. It is in a convenient location, close to Taos plaza. The casita was stocked really well with everything you need, from laundry detergent to cooking utensils and everything in between. The couple things that make me not want to return is NO AC in the casita! It was 95 plus out and still felt cooler than inside. This was a huge concern for my family. The other con is the parking. Very tight space in a lot that is shared with art gallery guests. Overall, I'd recommend if they got AC or maybe in cooler weather months.

Owner's Response: Due to our dry, low humidity, high altitude here in Taos we traditionally have not had the need for air conditioning. We usually open windows at night when the temperature drops and close the casita up in the am. With the large ceiling fans or one of our many floor fans running it usually does the trick of keeping the space nice and cool all day long. We are glad you enjoyed the space. It was a pleasure having you and we hope to see you back!

Beautiful homeaway

  • 5 of 5

This home was just as represented. Very clean and well equipped with everything we needed. It is on an historic street, filled with galleries. It is within easy walking distance to the center square filled with shops. Lots of things to do to keep us busy. The hostess was quickly responsive when a slight mix up occurred and very pleasant throughout. A great place!

Lots of room, close to The Plaza

  • 4 of 5

We were surprised when we walked in to the room because it's more like an apartment. So often the pictures on the website provide photos that make everything look so much more spacious--not so with this place. You definitely get more than you expect! We weren't in the room much as we were skiing, but when we were there it was quite comfortable. The only thing to be aware of is the narrow spiral staircase to get to the bed in the loft, although the one of the couches is also a trundle bed if needed. We enjoyed our stay and will definitely return.

Perfect Getaway Spot!

  • 5 of 5

What a fun space! We spent 3 nights in this rental last week & it was better than we expected. First, the location could not be better - only a couple minutes walk to the plaza. And when you step into the casita you feel as though you have stepped into another world - the decor is what I would call a good kind of "quirky." The pictures on the website portray the space accurately, but they can't do it justice. You have to see it in person to get the full effect. It takes awhile to take it all in and you discover new things over the course of your stay. The kitchen is fully equipped and the bathroom has both a tub and shower. The trundle bed is very comfortable should you need to use it. Great internet service and cable tv. The only issue we had was that the thermostat for the heat was locked and we could not adjust the temperature, so it got a little nippy inside after the sun went down (easily corrected but something you should ask about.) Also, you need to be able to climb a rather steep spiral staircase to get to the bedroom, so keep that in mind (not a negative for most folks, but something to keep in mind if you have trouble with steps.)

This was a wonderful, reasonably priced place which we thoroughly enjoyed. We highly recommend it.
