Cozy ... Up Scale Log Cabin on Creek edge: Nestled in the Blue Ridge chain of the Appalachian mountains, in the shadow of Pickens Nose Mountain, North Carolina mountain cabin is just 5 miles from Dillard, Georgia is a very unique log cabin vacation rental hideaway. The lure of this early 1800's Appalachian style, log cabin in this setting is irresistible. Let your mind slip back in time. As you approach our cabin, you'll admire the hand-hewed craftsmanship that was used by the early Appalachian settlers and is still being duplicated today. Massive hemlock logs with their dovetail notched corners and chinking, exposed ceiling beams held in place by wooden pegs, a sleeping loft, pine floors and tin roof form this primitive style homestead. The charm of the 1700's and 1800's but with all of the conveniences of today.

Get away with all the convenience of home: The cabin has a full kitchen with microwave, coffee maker, toaster; Rock fireplace, VCR with TV, telephone, BBQ Grill, porch rockers, swing, all linens, and towels. Ceiling fans cool the cabin on warm summer days; electric wall units heat each room for your comfort.
The road ends at our secluded hideaway … meaning there is no through traffic. Our property joins Betty's Creek (one of the most pristine, beautiful creeks in the area) and extends up Brushy Ridge Mountain where we join the 24,500 acre Southern Nantahala Wilderness and Standing Indian Wildlife & Bear Reserve.
Explore the Nantahala Wilderness from your cabin: A marked trail leads from our cabin west to join the scenic Appalachian Trail at Betty's Creek Gap (about 1 1/2 hour hike). There is an abundance of wild flowers in this Appalachian Rainforest from early spring until November; flowering trees; flame azaleas; mountain laurel; rhododendron; the many varieties of ferns; the clear tumbling streams; all add delight to your visit in all seasons. If you plan on day hiking, don't forget a rain coat or parka.
Wild turkey come to the creek daily to drink. Other wildlife using our property and the adjoining wilderness include: bear, white-tailed deer, raccoon, skunk, fox, squirrels, eagles, grouse and an array of songbirds.
We arrived at "Chinkapin Gap" cabin to find a very clean and well supplied hide-away.The setting is beautiful and quiet with the sound of a gurgling stream at the back door.
We did have some frustration while beginning our reservation set-up due to the fact that the res calender is not properly up-dated, so we had to switch cabin choices.
Then a reply as to whether or not we even had a reservation
was very slow to come to us.
Our stay at the cabin was pleasant,we visited family members nearby and rode in the mountains.
We left the cabin in the clean and neat order as it was when we arrived,so it was dissapointing that it took a full
three weeks to recieve our damage deposit returned to us. This after an email to the owners and a reply that ''we should get those out in a week or two, we've been really busy''. I don't know, just several things add up to spoil the urge to return to Touchstone Cabins. We have a res for a place in Maggie Valley in october.
Very clean, nicely furnished cabin, cozy and great for a couple or couple with 1 or 2 children. I was surprised at how clean the cabin was, no dust, no hair on bathroom floor, it is rare to find anyplace that is half this clean. The cabins are isolated from each other with an abundance of trees, the creek behind the cabin was very relaxing to hear. No cell phone service with AT&T, only one bar with Verizon, but the cabin has a land line and WiFi, the WiFi signal was weak in our cabin but useable, if any of that is important to you. I enjoyed being away from others and having a peaceful place to stay, so this cabin was perfect. I would definitely stay here again.
This cabin (and we stayed in the Sassafrass) was very cozy and just right for 2 people. More than that may get crowded. Even tho there is an additional bedroom in the loft, it is difficult to get to due to the very narrow spiral staircase. The location on the stream is beautiful and peaceful. The cabin was well stocked and very clean. I would recommend to anyone!
I have never rented a property from the internet and was a bit skeptical about how "quiet, serene and charming" this location would be. I was more than pleasantly surprised! The log cabin was cozy, clean and had all the amenities I needed. I booked my reservation at the last minute and was afraid it would not be ready for visitors. Once again, I was pleased at how well stocked and clean it was...no cob webs or dust bunnies. It smelled as clean as the mountain air which surrounded it. There were three other cabins around us, but the tress and landscape allowed for complete privacy. Betty's Creek behind the property was not only beautiful, but drowned out any other sounds of cars or people. It was if we had the mountain to ourselves! I have already recommended this property to several co-workers! I am also looking forward to my next retreat at this property- hope to make it soon!

The cabin is built closely along the rocky, noisy creek with trees and plantings. From the back deck you see the beautiful creek, water falls, mountain laurels, rhododendrons, hemlock trees, dogwoods, etc. From the front porch swing and oak rockers the view is up Big Brushy Mountain. The cabin sits about 100 feet or so off our paved road (no through traffic because the road ends at our cabin).
We have a trail that leads from the cabin up to the mountain ridge line and the scenic Appalachian Trail. Great for hiking any time of the year! We are located only a few miles from restaurants, shopping, grocery stores, spectacular water falls, fishing supplies, golf courses, horseback riding, white water rafting, gem mining, snow skiing and lots & lots of other things for a family to do. Free Wi-Fi at the cabin. Bring your laptop.
