Water's Edge Cottage on Mount Desert Island Quietside - Privacy and Convenience

Bedrooms 1
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 2 - 3 nights

About the property

1 bedroom cottage, sleeps 2, bathroom, kitchen, large living/dining room, deck

Bayberry Cottage is located in Bernard on the 'Quietside' of Mount Desert Island, Maine. Our cozy cottage offers the ultimate in privacy situated as it is on a wooded hillside that slopes down to the waters of picturesque Bass Harbor. We are minutes away from the wonders of Acadia National Park.

Our cottage is ideal for two people. The cottage has one queen bedroom, bath with a shower, a fully equipped kitchen and a large living/dining area with woodstove and sliding glass doors opening onto a spacious deck.

Guest Comment: As you can tell, Roger and I enjoyed our stay in Acadia and hope to return to the area, ideally to Bayberry Cottage. The quiet location was perfect for us. The cottage is very similar to those we have stayed at in Estes Park and Jasper, Canada -- good, clean housekeeping places, well equipped for basic housekeeping -- exactly the type of places we dilettante hikers enjoy. Comfy but not too fussy, close to restaurants, but also close to good markets. I will tell my walking buddies about you!!

You are very attuned to your guests' needs. Your selections of restaurants and shops for us were perfect. What a clever person you are, selecting just the right guests and just the right places for us! :-)

We enjoyed wonderful hikes all throughout the island. The cottage proved to be a great location--not too far from 'the action' but far enough away for a peaceful rest. I will recommend Bayberry Cottage to others.

I am a 'transplant' - I moved to Maine from LI, NY in 1985 and have grown roots here in this most beautiful state. I so enjoy managing this unique property! Each season brings old Bayberry friends and newbies- I look forward to meeting new guests and reconnecting with returning 'regulars'.

Why Mary Grace chose Bass Harbor

The owners of this property have been summer residents on Mount Desert Island for years and have a true appreciation for the spectacular advantages of this particular they say 'Location, Location, Location'!

What makes this cottage unique

I have been managing this property for eight years and am still in awe of the pristine location - the serene surroundings of nature abound, allowing you to detach and relax fully while enjoying the proximity of Acadia National Park and the conveniences of the neighboring towns.

Cozy Cabin on the Harbor

  • 5 of 5

I can't decide where to start this review. Everything about the cabin on Bayberry Lane was exceptional! This was our first exposure to Vacation Rentals.Com. Mary Grace made the reservation process a breeze. She provided answers to questions we didn't think to ask! The cabin itself was better than the pictures. The temperature dropped during our stay and the electric heaters were more than enough to keep us comfortable. The fireplace was a real hit. Three of our four nights we enjoyed a cozy fire. The kitchen had just enough utensils to make a hobby cook (me) very happy. Twice we cooked our own lobster dinners. Thurston's Lobster Pound is a short walk from the cabin. A very nice seafood eatery with a great staff. The cabin was close enough to Bar Harbor to enjoy the touristy stuff, but closer to the Acadia National Park trails. There was even a very nice grocery store just a short drive away for just about anything you may have forgotten. The only reason I may not recommend this place to my relatives is because we want to go back next year to get away from it all again!

Cozy cottage in beautiful and convenient location

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent 3 nights at Mary's cottage. Mary was very responsive and polite from beginning to end of the process. The cottage is secluded and private, but close to a great lobster shack and great restaurants and hiking. The cottage itself was very clean and cozy. It's heated via space heaters and a fireplace, so make sure you bring warm clothes and make use of the many blankets Mary offers. We had a lovely time staying on the quiet side of the island and would recommend Mary's place to others.

Nice quiet private cabin getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Mary provides great communication and access for a nice cabin in a great location. On the "quiet" side of the island, away from the hustle bustle of Acadia NP. We had a great time an were provided with all the amenities needed for comfort. We'll stay here again if we get out that way!

Fantastic stay in this great cabin

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful three nights in Cabin #1. It was very spacious and quite clean. Perfect for a couple looking for some downtime. The deck was nice and had a gas grill, which came in handy. The kitchen was well-stocked with everything we needed. It was nice being on the "quiet" side of Mount Desert Island, and still only 35 minutes to Bar Harbor. On one of the cooler evenings, we had a fire in the fireplace. It was so relaxing here. I would highly recommend this place to everyone looking for a quiet, well-kept getaway. Thank you, Mary!

Lovely. Peaceful.

  • 5 of 5

This little cabin was exactly what we were looking for. We stayed in #3, and it had the best view of the water. Even though cabin #2 was near us (maybe 75 ft), it was private enough. The deck was very private and we spent a lot of time there just looking at the harbor. BBQ grill was great.

The cabin was very clean! And cute. Had all of the basic necessities. The only thing we wish we had brought was beach towels, but easy to find some in town, which was 10 minutes away.

Cabin is rustic but felt airy and clean despite really muggy weather. Bathroom was small but we didn't mind, it was clean and in good shape. The woodstove was wonderful, we had a fire almost every night. Kitchen was clean and had pretty much everything needed to cook a full meal. Bed was comfortable, and I took several naps on the couch. Heavenly.

Only once did we hear another family nearby , on another property, making a bit of noise. Other than that just the birds and occasional lobster boat!

If you're looking for a basic cabin, in a somewhat secluded area away from the bustle of MDI, this is the spot. We were very happy with our choice!

Perfect cozy getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We recently spent a wonderful few days on the 'Quiet Side' of Mt Desert. The cottage was just perfect - quiet, clean, and stocked with all the basics - just right for two people. It was an easy drive to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park, as well as to access other places around Mt Desert. We enjoyed the festivities on the 4th of July in Bar Harbor - pancakes at dawn, the parade, lobster racing, shopping/people watching, and a great fireworks display. We were able to hike and bike (carriage roads) in Acadia National Park, had a fantastic evening kayak, ate lobster at the very unpretentious (and delicious!) Thurston's Lobster Pound, had a cultural evening at the Acadia Repertory Theater. And, when the weather turned cool and rainy, it was the perfect place to curl up on the couch in front of the wood fire and read. Highly recommend this cottage for those looking to take a real break!
