Bayberry Cottage is located in Bernard on the 'Quietside' of Mount Desert Island, Maine. Our cozy cottage offers the ultimate in privacy situated as it is on a wooded hillside that slopes down to the waters of picturesque Bass Harbor. We are minutes away from the wonders of Acadia National Park.
Our cottage is ideal for two people. The cottage has one queen bedroom, bath with a shower, a fully equipped kitchen and a large living/dining area with woodstove and sliding glass doors opening onto a spacious deck.
Guest Comment: As you can tell, Roger and I enjoyed our stay in Acadia and hope to return to the area, ideally to Bayberry Cottage. The quiet location was perfect for us. The cottage is very similar to those we have stayed at in Estes Park and Jasper, Canada -- good, clean housekeeping places, well equipped for basic housekeeping -- exactly the type of places we dilettante hikers enjoy. Comfy but not too fussy, close to restaurants, but also close to good markets. I will tell my walking buddies about you!!
You are very attuned to your guests' needs. Your selections of restaurants and shops for us were perfect. What a clever person you are, selecting just the right guests and just the right places for us! :-)
We enjoyed wonderful hikes all throughout the island. The cottage proved to be a great location--not too far from 'the action' but far enough away for a peaceful rest. I will recommend Bayberry Cottage to others.

I am a 'transplant' - I moved to Maine from LI, NY in 1985 and have grown roots here in this most beautiful state. I so enjoy managing this unique property! Each season brings old Bayberry friends and newbies- I look forward to meeting new guests and reconnecting with returning 'regulars'.
The owners of this property have been summer residents on Mount Desert Island for years and have a true appreciation for the spectacular advantages of this particular property.....as they say 'Location, Location, Location'!
I have been managing this property for eight years and am still in awe of the pristine location - the serene surroundings of nature abound, allowing you to detach and relax fully while enjoying the proximity of Acadia National Park and the conveniences of the neighboring towns.
This little cabin was exactly what we were looking for. We stayed in #3, and it had the best view of the water. Even though cabin #2 was near us (maybe 75 ft), it was private enough. The deck was very private and we spent a lot of time there just looking at the harbor. BBQ grill was great.
The cabin was very clean! And cute. Had all of the basic necessities. The only thing we wish we had brought was beach towels, but easy to find some in town, which was 10 minutes away.
Cabin is rustic but felt airy and clean despite really muggy weather. Bathroom was small but we didn't mind, it was clean and in good shape. The woodstove was wonderful, we had a fire almost every night. Kitchen was clean and had pretty much everything needed to cook a full meal. Bed was comfortable, and I took several naps on the couch. Heavenly.
Only once did we hear another family nearby , on another property, making a bit of noise. Other than that just the birds and occasional lobster boat!
If you're looking for a basic cabin, in a somewhat secluded area away from the bustle of MDI, this is the spot. We were very happy with our choice!
We recently spent a wonderful few days on the 'Quiet Side' of Mt Desert. The cottage was just perfect - quiet, clean, and stocked with all the basics - just right for two people. It was an easy drive to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park, as well as to access other places around Mt Desert. We enjoyed the festivities on the 4th of July in Bar Harbor - pancakes at dawn, the parade, lobster racing, shopping/people watching, and a great fireworks display. We were able to hike and bike (carriage roads) in Acadia National Park, had a fantastic evening kayak, ate lobster at the very unpretentious (and delicious!) Thurston's Lobster Pound, had a cultural evening at the Acadia Repertory Theater. And, when the weather turned cool and rainy, it was the perfect place to curl up on the couch in front of the wood fire and read. Highly recommend this cottage for those looking to take a real break!
The cabin is perfect if you are going to visit Acadia national park. It's very private and great for 2 people who wants to spend time in quite and peaceful place. It was super clean and has character added to it by the fireplace and wood. It is hard to describe how amazing this place is. We spent terrific time there and would love to come back. Thank you Mary for everything, you've been very helpful.
Well-equipped kitchen, plenty of electric heat for cold June nights, owners quick to respond and very helpful. Walking distance to Thurston's Lobster Pound (.2mi), very quiet area, can watch lobster boats leaving in the morning. The picture doesn't do it justice!
This property is close enough (about 20 minutes) to everything that you can still enjoy your whole day exploring the island (Acadia, Bar Harbor, etc.) yet far enough away that you can enjoy the peacefulness of it. It is perfectly tucked away and the cabin itself is cozy and very well maintained.
For us, this was a last minute "get-a-away" and Mary helped take the hassle and stress out of the planning. She is very personable and willing to assist her guests with anything! We definitely plan to come back and stay here again. The nights were still a little bit chilly when we arrived but I highly suggest using the wood stove if you have this problem as it adds to the feel of the whole cabin experience!!!
We had such a wonderful time. We have been to Acadia many times, but this was our first time staying on the island. The cabin was clean, beautiful, cozy, secluded and peaceful. We loved eating on the porch overlooking the water. Mary was very kind and accommodating. We cannot wait to come back!!
