About Beth Firestein

I fell in love with the Big Island several years ago and in 2007 I had the opportunity to buy a place of my own on the Kona coast. I really enjoy sharing the beauty of my Hawaiian cottage with others. I can't be on the island full-time and sharing this incredible place with you brings me joy. I hope you enjoy your stay as much as I do when I am on the Big Island.

Beth Firestein purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Beth Firestein chose Honalo

I love being part of the historical Kona coffee growing area of the island. I can watch the coffee cherries mature over the year from the delicate white coffee flowers to the deep red of ripe coffee cherry ready for harvest. I also enjoy the cooler temperatures at our elevation of 1100 feet above sea level. The cottage is a very comfortable place to stay any time of the year.

What makes this cottage unique

I find such peace and pleasure when I snorkel with the colorful tropical fish and sea turtles at Kahalu'u Beach Park, only 7 minutes from my lovely cottage. I can enjoy gorgeous sunsets from the screened-in lanai and on clear, moonless nights, I can see the Milky Way. I also love eating the bananas and avocados that grow on my property. I can't think of a better place to stay on the Kona coast.

Guestbook comments from the owner

It was our first experience with booking a vacation cottage "on-line". The Rainbow Guest Cottage was all we hoped it would be. Very quiet and secluded, except for our friendly neighboring Roosters, { which added a rustic charm}. The cottage had everything we need for our week stay.

We would certainly choose to stay here again if we ever return to Kona.

Rainbow Ohana - a tropical haven

  • 5 of 5

We were delighted with the overall experience. We were very pleased with the accommodations. The place was very neat and orderly. Direction to get to the place were accurate. We appreciated all of the books and pamphlets on what to do while there. The bed was very comfortable. The total ambiance of the place was perfect for our "vacating." We didn't lack for a thing. The roosters (eventually) added to the experience.

Lots of character

  • 4 of 5

We loved staying in the Rainbow Ohana. It was equipped with everything we needed for our stay. We enjoyed the beautiful sunsets every evening. The garden was particularly charming. It was a perfect home base for us to explore the Big Island. The only problem was the pathway lighting was not working which made it a little difficult getting in after dark.

Owner's Response: We are so pleased that you enjoyed your time at Rainbow Ohana. We apologize for the failure of the path lights. We were not aware that they had broken. We really like to make sure everything is in good working order for our guests. If you or future guests can let us know that something is broken, we can usually get out there within 24 hours to fix it. Mahalo for the helpful feedback and we hope you will visit Rainbow Ohana again on any futures visits to the Big Island. We promise to make sure the path lights are in good working order! Beth

A Peace in Paradise

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Rainbow Ohana was wonderful. The cottage was quaint, cozy and clean and met all of our needs. The three of us had plenty of room to relax, reflect and be at peace. Fresh fruit was a welcoming sight when we arrived. The location felt nicely remote but not too far from the city. We enjoyed the privacy and the visits from Orange Kitty. We were surrounded with tropical beauty. And we had no need for the earplugs, we loved the chickens and the gecko's. They were more amusing than a bother. It was all part of the paradise we wanted to experience. Mahalo, Terri for the beautiful tropical floral arrangement And Mahalo, Beth for extending your offer and the chance to heal and for sharing your home. We will defiantly recommend Rainbow Ohana to anyone we know visiting the Kona area. Aloha, A hui hou. Donna, Charlene & Angie

The Ohana - a wonderful place to stay

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at the Ohana from Oct 10/25 - 11/4/16. October seems to be a great time to travel to HI since the temperatures are mild and it rained mostly at night. I had heard a lot about the Ohana, but seeing it in person was breathtaking. It is nestled in lush vegetation of avocado and banana trees, flowers and any kind of plant that I had only known from greenhouses or botanical gardens. I especially loved the ocean views from anywhere on the property as well as eating fresh fruit every day from the trees and bushes around us. The Ohana itself has a unique set up with a comfortable and cozy bedroom, a big walk-in closet to store all your belongings, as well as the open lanai/kitchen and dining area where you can eat, relax and work feeling like you are outside. The screen windows allow the fresh ocean air to come in and I don't think I ever slept as well as I did at the Ohana. The queen bed and the futon couch are both very comfortable and the decor is lovely. There is a full bathroom for taking showers or a relaxing bath. The kitchen has everything you need for cooking. There is also a laundry machine and dryer for your convenience. The Ohana is easily reachable from the airport and downtown Kona and is within a short drive to several marvelous beaches. One of the highlights for my trip was swimming with the dolphins which come to the local bays in the early morning hours to rest. There are also many great restaurants close by for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Kaya's cafe is just up the road from the Ohana and has wonderful homemade quiches and delicious Kona coffee. Living on a coffee farm for 10 days was an experience I will never forget. I had never actual seen a coffee plant and learned about what goes into harvesting them. I hope to come back soon and show my family this wonderful, extra-ordinary place and I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did. Beth, the owner, is a wonderful person and will answer any questions you might have.

Mahalo, Sabine
