Getting to the beach!
Although beautiful Moody Beach is only 0.5 miles away as the crow flies, it is about a 14 minute walk (.7 miles). We find the easiest walking route is to take a right onto Cranberry St., left onto Cable St., right onto Sassafras St., left onto Dike St., right onto Bourne Ave. and follow to the end. Our beach carts make it easy to bring small coolers, blankets, chairs, umbrellas etc. if you choose to walk. No parking is available near public access for the beach area at the end of Bourne Ave. The nice thing about the lack of public parking is that the beach is usually uncrowded because private property abuts either side. Please respect private property rights which in Maine end at the low tide water mark. You may walk, fish or watch birds between the high and low tide water marks of private property though. As the law, which goes back to the 1600’s when Maine was part of Massachusetts is written, “Private property shall end at the mean low tide water boundary and access without permission of owners is a violation except for the purposes of navigating, fishing or fowling.” We have a tide clock and have provided tide tables to make it easy to determine the tide level throughout each day.
Parking is available at 4 Town of Wells beach lots for an hourly fee ($2.50) via new meters installed in 2012. The meters accept credit/debit cards and coins only, no bills. The meters can be found in each lot centrally located. After paying for the time you select, a ticket is dispensed that you put inside your car on the dashboard so that it is visible. See the Town of Wells section of this binder and also page 11 of the Wells Guide book. There is also parking at nearby Ogunquit Beach (take right onto Ocean Ave. at end of Bourne Ave.) but the rates are very high. Another option is for one person to drive back & forth, drop off and walk back. Then again, there always is the trolley that can be boarded on Rt. 1 at the Majestic Regency motel, which goes to Ocean Ave. via Eldridge Rd. and returns via Mile Rd. Refer to the trolley schedule inside front cover.
Beach and yard items we do provide.: We have 5 beach chairs, 2 umbrellas, 2 beach carts, a blanket, a small portable cooler, mini surf boards, inflatable swimming rings and a few games such as paddle ball, bocce, ring toss, whiffle balls/bat, soccer balls and frisbees. There are also five Adirondack style lawn chairs with small tables and ottomans for sitting out in the yard.
Kate & I grew up in the suburbs of Boston We met at our respective best friends' wedding in 1968 and married in 1970. We have one daughter and two grandchildren. Tom retired from Analog Devices in 2009 and Kate retired from Tyco Intl. in 2012. We've lived in Norwood MA since 1973. We stay at 'Never Moody Here' whenever we can, which is mostly when our guests are not there.
Tom&Kate purchased this house in 2005
We honeymooned on Wells Beach in 1970 and have been vacationing in the Wells area ever since. Kate has relatives in York and Cape Neddick and until recently a great aunt lived around the corner on Cable St.
A 13 minute walk to the beach from a quiet neighborhood on a street that dead ends at the Ogunquit River, all the while surrounded by the Rachel Carson National Wildlife Preserve. We can do most of the shopping we need to by taking the scenic route along the ocean and avoiding Rt. 1 but, if we have to, there's a traffic light between the house and Rt. 1. The sunroom and large living room 'got us' when we first saw the house. Also, the two fireplaces, 1st floor washer/dryer and built in china cabinet closed the deal.
From the "Never Moody Here" Journal with the permission of our guests:
Thank you so much for your wonderful donation to John's fund. We were so lucky and thankful to have won the weekend! Your house is special and all of us enjoyed it! There was something for everyone to do and enjoy AND "Maggie" (their Husky) especially appreciated being with us. We experienced Ogunquit & the Marginal Way & Lord's Harborside as well as Kennebunkport, which we all really liked. The views are spectacular.
This is a new find for us and we now love this area. The beaches are wonderful for both kids and dogs. Maggie "smiled" the whole time she was walking at the beach. It was just the perfect getaway that our family needed! We hope we didn't leave too much of a mess. Thanks again!
p.s. We loved watching the birds & Maggie loved watching the chipmonks!
Note from Tom & Kate:
This very appreciative family has booked a long weekend in September 2014 and we're very happy to have them return!
Theres no place like home...except for at "Never Moody Here" !!!
This was our second stay at this fabulous rental.
We are a bit obsessive about cleanliness and have never found anyplace to be to our high standards...until coming here!!!
The home is clean, perfectly laid out, roomy, and has all the comforts of home. You can tell the owners put alot of thought and pride into their home.
The spot is perfect...within walking distance to the beach, surrounded by fabulous restaurants and oodles of shopping:)
We hope to continue coming for years to come...
We love coming and visiting Wells. We stayed for a week (not enough time)with our two small kids and 4 pups. This was our third stay and won't be our last. Tom and Kate are great even left us their personal stroller and high chair for our stay. Great rental, great people, great location.
Loved this place!! The owners were amazing and very sweet!
We were amazed on how neat and clean the house was!!
The home is much larger than it appears! It is amazingly clean and extremely roomy, and has all the comforts that you would need !
The location is perfect and peaceful...it is in walking distance to the beach, and shopping and restaurants~~
We cant wait to come back next year!! Thanks
Once again we all had a great time. Spent a little more time at the beach
this year & the weather really cooperated! We learned that lesser expensive
(i.e., cheap) kites work better than expensive ones, and we finished the
Marginal Way this year & found..no -- not a Pot of Gold, but something even
better! Perkins Cove, with restaurants, bathrooms, shops and wonderful
views. Who knew!?
This special home-away-from home was magically still right in the middle of
everything we did & so perfect for us, with a space for all & places for
each group, too, when we needed a little space. A good time was had by
all even our dear doggie!
Tom and Kate's house was the perfect spot for a family Fall getaway! Perfect location- close to everything. Very clean and comfortable house- with everything we needed for the long weekend! Tom was so helpful and thoughtful (even having a full bowl of water down for our 3 dogs when we arrived). Where else could 8 adults and 3 dogs been so welcomed?! The fenced in backyard was wonderful for the pups! Would definitely recommend Never Moody Here and look forward to returning sometime in the future!
This, by far, is one of the best places we have ever stayed in the 20 years of Homeway! It truly is the perfect home away from home. Perfect location...access to lots of beautiful coastal towns and beaches and loads of restaurants...nicely decorated...Tom and Kate are so helpful....lots of tourist info at your fingertips!! Would definitely return!
