The chalet was large, clean and very well-equipped. We decided on a very last minute trip and the owner, Paul, made arrangements over the phone with me for us to meet the caretaker who was very friendly. We cooked every night and had everything we needed to do so. We came to raft, kayak and hike. We had a little less than an hour's drive to the Nantahala River and about an hour to the HIawassee River at Reliance, TN. We also spent a day on Lake Hiawassee (about half an hour). (The Ocoee Outdoor Center is about thirty to forty minutes) The marina at Bear Paw Resort was great and reasonably priced for boat rentals. We also spent several hours at the Fires Creek Recreational Area in the National Forest which was about twenty minutes away. It has a beautiful creek and waterfall. The chalet is as pictured; however, the view has diminished quite a bit from when the photos were taken due to trees growing up in front of the deck. Overall, a good centrally located "home base" for those wanting to explore a wide area at an very reasonable price.
This home is beautiful and the surroundings are perfect. On 5 acres on top of a mountain in western NC. Doesn't get any better than that! Close to historic Murphy NC but far enough to feel isolated from stress. Paul and Claudia were perfect to work with. Home is fully stocked, large, spacious, and well maintained. We do not return to homes where we have stayed in the past, but we have considered this on to be sure.
If you ever wanted to get away for a relaxing vacation this is the place. The chalet is beautiful. You can enjoy a morning cup of coffee on the porch that overlooks the beautiful mountains of North Carolina. Shopping close enough yet away from the hussle and bussle of everyday life.
The chalet is supplied with all the necessities and more, all you need is your suitcases. I especially loved watching nature at its best.
I recommend this to families of all types. I will be back for another wonderful vacation.
This mountain retreat is a wonderful place to get away from it all. The views are gorgeous and Murphy is a lovely town. The chalet is well maintained and decorated beautifully. Our children loved the games available at night after spending the day exploring the surrounding mountains. Everyone we talked to, from the owner to the care taker, was very helpful and kind. We would recommend this property to families or couples just looking to get away. We look forward to coming back in the future.
If you are looking to get away from it all, this is the place to stay. The accomodations were clean, charming and relaxing. The attention to detail was amazing. All the comforts of home were provided. The view of the mountains and the sunsets were delightful. Be prepared to do a little driving as there is not much to do close by. If you get a chance try to visit the Country Rib restaurant on Rte 64 The service and food was excellent. It was tough going a week without access to the internet, but we survived. Also we were unable to watch the Boston Red Sox as the channel they were on was not purchased. We would definitely recommend this property to our friends and family
If you're looking to get away from it all, this is the place for you. Although the chalet is central in location to the town of Murphy and various attractions, when you step onto the property, you feel like you are in your own isolated retreat. The view is incredible and the chalet has all the comforts of home with a very well equipped kitchen, and comfortable bedrooms and living areas. Outside communication is limited to cell phone use ( as noted in the property description) with no internet or phone in the chalet. We found 2 visitors centers in Murphy which were very welcoming in allowing us ample time to use their Wi-Fi as were the local library and The Daily Grind Coffee shop.
There are many tourist activities within a 2 hour drive of the property. I recommend making a stop at the local flea market on Sat. a.m. We found many interesting treasures. Also a trip to Vogel State Park in GA and a tubing adventure in Helen GA were highlights for our kids. All in all we had a very relaxing stay and really enjoyed this spot. I would definitely recommend this chalet to my friends
