My 23 yr old daughter lives in Nashville and was on a work assignment in Chicago. I live in Dallas and figured I would head up there and have a father daughter weekend. We just happened to be in the Potawatomi tribe of the YMCA Indian Princesses years ago and had 15 camping weekends back then that were such special times. We could not believe it when we found that the Potawatomi State Park was a couple miles away from this stuga. It could easily be a National Park combined with Peninsula State Park less than an hour away. We hiked extensively in both and the scenery was breathtaking. That said, this stuga was icing on the cake. It is like a little Hobbit house and Barbro (Swedish for Barbara), the host, has put hours and hours into decorating this little place. It is just cozy and warm. It is right on Green Bay with a beautiful little rocky beach that lights up with amazing stars at night. There is a fire pit to make a nice fire and smores. Barbro has been coming to this place since 1950 as a child and she lives right nearby. If you do not take time to meet her, then you are missing out. You must pause to hear the history of the property and hear of the joy she has in her children and grandchildren. She just glows with Christ's love if that is okay to say in a review. She invited us to her little Lutheran church down the road where everybody was to wear Packer's clothes as it was game day and they had a big potluck afterwards but we passed as we had limited time to get back on the trails. Her hospitality is amazing and Door County is the hidden treasure of WI in my view. I grew up in MI and can't believe I never heard of this place as it is a must visit in the US right up with the major National Parks. There are severall 5 star restaurants nearby and again, Barbro will guide you if you will let her. The people of Sturgeon Bay are so so friendly and the downtown is loaded with toy stores, galleries, gift shops, and places my wife would have loved to shop for clothes. It is basically Jackson Hole of WI. However, this is NOT a place to go to and stay in a hotel. Shame on you if you do. You would be an idiot to do such. For the personal touches that Barbro makes in every way, she should be charging twice what she charged us. I must take my other daughter, also part of the Potawatomi Indian Princesses up there and also my wife. If you go to this stuga, you will have to return and share the experience with other.
My sister and I stayed here in early October - we were thrilled with this beautiful little Swedish "stuga", so adorable and comfortable. Barbro is so hospitable and kind - helped us feel welcome - from the way she decorated the cottage to the "smores" makings in the fridge and the chairs she set out for us in front of the shoreline. The stuga is within walking distance of a lovely lighthouse, in an area that nurtures walking and love of nature. Perfect for writers, artists, and dreamers.
Love love love this cottage! All the comforts of home, from the condiments & spices to the stocked firepit and marshmallow roasters...Barbro is the most generous, friendky thoughtful host of any I've rented from (and I've been to at least a dozen rentals from Colorado to Virginia). I came with my teenage daughter and her friend to spend quality time in the peaceful & natural setting. We spent time hiking and kayaking at Potowatomie SP and discovering Whitefish Dunes (only 1/2 hour away!) and just enjoying the comfy, quiet cottage. Very charming and very clean! Thank you Barbro for a much needed break.
I absolutely adore this little Swedish Stuga. It is the perfect getaway to refresh, relax, and to enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Barbro, the owner, is so warm and makes your stay so enjoyable. We all loved it.
My sister-in-law and I booked the Stuga for a long weekend. It was the perfect place for us! Barbro, the owner, welcomed us as we were sitting in the yard enjoying the view. The cottage is beautifully furnished and has everything one could need. The grounds are beautiful with plenty of places to sit and enjoy the great view of Green Bay. There are tables and chairs right on the rocks as well as a fire pit to enjoy. We are already planning another visit next June!
