Dedicated to Pele with representations of her throughout the house, Lava House is halfway between Kailua-Kona and the volcano. This home can be a writer's secluded paradise or a spacious family vacation spot. Though on its own unique lava landscape, Ocean View is surrounded by beaches, bays and tropical vegetation.
Huge gourmet kitchen, 2,900 square foot lanai, and nearby farmers' markets ensure dining island style. Nights are cool and comfortable. Coffee comes with morning sun on the lanai, brightening the ocean view.
Guaranteed to be your most diversified tropical vacation ever!
I live in the 2 most beautiful states in the USA. When I am not in Hawaii I live in Salem Oregon.

Lava House has a great ocean view, marvelous dawns and great sunsets. At 3000 feet the temperature is always comfortable. We are centrally located for travelling all over the island.
We enjoyed staying in this comfortable home with our family. It was also a great spot to be able to entertain friends who were staying nearby. We were able to visit beaches on the east coast and travel to volcano national park from here. Enjoyed it very much.
My husband, daughter, and I, along with my parents so very much appreciated and enjoyed this beautiful hale! It was a perfect location to drive to and experience both Hilo and Kona! The house is spacious and cozy especially with the fireplace on chilly nights. The house was clean and welcoming and had everything we needed for the days we were there! Spending mornings on the wrap-around lanai with our coffee while the sun was rising was magical and peaceful! And the sunset and stars were amazing! Again, a perfect location to be able to take a drive and see Hilo, Akaka Falls, Rainbow Falls, Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park, the Green Sand Beach, South Point (Ka Lae), or Pu'uhonua O' Honaunau Park, Kona, and Hapuna Beach.
We did have a great Christmas vacation at this house. So different from the north side of the island, where we started our vacation. We enjoyed the contrasts: less humid, quieter (no coqui frogs!). Wish we could have all fit inside to eat sometimes when it was chilly out, but breakfast in the sunshine was always nice. Great adventures nearby: Volcanoes National Park with lava flowing into the ocean, turtles on a black sand beach, and a Christmas day outing to the green sand beach! (What a ride!) We even enjoyed an outdoor Christmas eve service in Ocean View. Can't do that in the Willamette Valley! Our two grandchildren, 7 and 5, loved making the circuit of the lanai on a regular basis. We even took them hiking at Manuka State Park. They did well! The guys were glad to get some football on the T.V. We felt very much at home in this house, and down at the local stores. We knew Linda was nearby if we needed anything. Thanks for adding to great family memories of Christmas in Hawaii.
We didn't spend much time in the home. We stayed busy adventuring. Very clean, nice home. Linda is a great communicator and made sure everything was taken care of upon arrival. House was stocked with things from previous tenants which was great! Even a 6 pack of Corona was left:) beautiful sunsets from the covered wrap around porch.
This is a beautiful, comfortable spacious vacation rental. We absolutely recommend.
Loved the kitchen and living space- morning coffee on the wrap around deck was our favourite time of day.
Keep in mind.. it's a little out of the way so if you want to be close to the hustle bustle in Kona it's likely not quite right for you.
The home is well stocked with kitchen essentials, towels, linens etc. There are two markets close by for all necessities.
A surprise upon arrival - there is a guest house that is occupied and it made us think we may have arrived at the wrong place. As it turned out we went over and introduced ourselves on our second day and learned the occupant was a full time renter, a lovely quiet lady who shared a few local tips on places to go. She kept to herself and certainly did not intrude on our vacation but I did wish we had have known in advance.
Joanne, the homeowner was very easy to work with and a sweet lady who provided some travel advice and great directions to get there.
This was a wonderful vacation rental and we would both recommend and stay again!
Ocean view is midway between Kona and Hilo and 35 miles from Volcano National Park and 10 miles from the sacred area of Southpoint. The black sand beach and the green sand beach are within 15 miles. There are farmer's markets 12 miles away in the charming town of Naalehu and a buddist temple in enchanting Wood Valley. We are only 2 miles away from Kuhuku Region of Volcano National Park where Saturdays are frequently the time of hikes thru the region. The children especially love the Junior Ranger Hikes. See volcano Nat park website.
