Charming 17th Century Villa With Pool With Stylish Contemporary Interior/GORDES

Bedrooms 2
Property type villa
Minimum Stay 3 - 4 nights

About the property

One of the most beautiful villages in Provence. You can fall in love again.

Our lovely villa is located in the region of Gordes, officially classified one of the most beautiful villages in France. We are also lucky to be in this region which is awash with natural beauty - mountains, lakes, fields of lavender, sunflower, poppies and all the stunning places on hilltops all around. It is also close to the iconics cities of Marseilles and Avignon as well as amazing National Parks, Arles and tons of beautiful landmarks and historic places. The region is also known for a wealth of culture in art, music, theatre, dance and a wide variety of wonderful fun markets from food to antiques. Lastly, Gordes and the surrounding area is also known for great restaurants serving modern ( a few Michelin stars) gastros in beautiful settings and of course great wines and countless vineyards and caves for glorious wine tasting.

The villa is a genuine early 17th century, comprising of Two bedrooms (both with modern en-suites), a third bathroom/shower downstairs, separate toilet, open plan kitchen dining living area. Huge fireplace. Lovely stone exterior, with a contemporary stylish and fresh interior. All modern amenities supplied throughout including TV, DVD, internet, washing machine, dish washing machine, toaster, radio, bath and pool towels and a large romantic garden.

Provence is undoubtedly one of the most enchanting and culturally lively regions in the world and Gordes is at the heart of this extraordinarily beautiful and charming landscape. Experience its stunning and varied natural beauty and cultural events such as the famous Avignon Festival and an abundance of festivals in every village. There is plenty to do and see whatever you are, art, theatre, music, hiking, water sport, riding, cycling, skiing, mountaineering, paragliding, markets, antiques, food...the list is endless. Oh and of course the light of Provence and the wonderful warm weather for much of the year well into October/November.

I have been renting this house for over 14 years and happy to say that 99% of my guests have had a wonderful stay and a great holiday. This gives me immense pleasure as I love the place myself so to share it with others and give them the often magical experience of its unique location is just very heartwarming for me.

There are many websites which feature the many villages and towns all around and all the activities you can enjoy within an hour's journey even if you go as far as Arles. The scenery is always so beautiful and serene with fantastic French roads, boulevards of the famous Plane trees. Its heavenly and I look forward to welcoming you.

About Valerie Brown

I work as an event organiser in my own business. I am currently working on an Expo which will take place in the heart of London. I have four talented daughters who are my pride and joy. Like me they all love music. They work as a lawyer, a writer, a nutritionist and a journalist. We are all London based except for my youngest who lives in Paris so its fun to go and see her on my way to Provence.

Valerie Brown purchased this villa in 1997

Why Valerie Brown chose Luberon

Belle De Jour is a place people fall in love with whether they are honey moon couples or children who love to swim and create fantasies in a large unexpected garden. There is so much breathtaking beauty in the natural landscape, the mountains, rivers, streams, fields of lavender, poppies or sunflowers, the majestic plantain trees each a work of natural art. There are tons of great markets whatever you're into. I love antiques so on Saturdays, I go to Villeneuve next to Avignon, browse or buy and then sit and eat oysters, chips and drink champagne. Local people come there so its not a touristy experience at all. Of course the most famous antique market is in Isle Sur Le Sorgue. Even if you don't buy it is always a great day and you can eat sitting at a restaurant or picnic next to the glassy clear running waters of the Sorgue. Its just enchanting. Every village has its own character and is stunning with festivals in the summer and plenty of theatre and live music and exhibitions. Also great for sport from horse riding to kayaking and loads of high adventure stuff for children.

What makes this villa unique

The house is in a village but feels like a hideaway. That makes it romantic. The pool is lovely because it is painted not tiled so the water is a lovely very clear grey blue which is cool. Les Bories which is minutes away boasts some famous neighbours. Elton John, Posh and Becks, John Malkovich and most of all Gordes is where Russel Crowe's film A Good Year was filmed and if you've seen it you know that the best thing about the film was the beautiful setting. Its also easy to have a great time here. Marseille is less then an hour's drive so you can go and have a day by the beach. The famous city of Avignon (now described as the mini Barcelona) is just a 25 minutes drive. You can have the rural, town, city, mountain for skiing or hiking and beach experience as you wish. its all yours or just stay at home and eat, swim, read, walk RELAX.

Valerie was wonderful; she was very quick to respond to any need or question. The house and pool were something out of a fairytale. The classic Provençal looks and lush surroundings were a treat. I can't imagine a nicer place to spend your next week in Provence. Many thanks to Valerie and Aries for their kindness, advice, and warmth😃

A charming old stone house in a peaceful garden.

  • 4 of 5

We stayed in Belle De Jour for 11 nights in June and thoroughly enjoyed the house and peaceful setting at the end of a private track.

Everything was very clean and well furnished with excellent bathrooms and plenty of hot water.

We swam in the pool every day bar one, when there was a big thunderstorm that drenched the area and had a strange effect of gradually turning the colour of the water in the pool to green, but was perfectly ok to swim in.

Valerie was on hand to answer any queries we had despite being in the USA at the time of our stay, something that we both appreciated greatly.

Gordes and the area around was lovely with so many beautiful towns and villages to explore on foot or bike or car, a great area of France to return to again.

Lovely house

Story book house in a story book setting...

We very happily spent the month of August in this charming, comfortable and clean Provençal house. Although it's only minutes from marvelous food shopping and useful services (super market, cafés, restaurants, fitness center, bank, etc. ) it feels private and a world apart. The owner Valerie was unfailingly gracious and readily available by phone or email to her London location. As for the world famous village of Gordes and the whole Luberon area's one of our most favorite places on the planet.

Owner's Response: Mostly I never get to meet my guests and all communication is by email and phone but even still you can form a wonderful relationship. I enjoyed every moment of knowing Gene and his wife. I almost feel blessed. Needless to say they are more then welcome anytime. Lovely lovely people. Thank you for your kind words.

Perfectly peaceful and private

  • 5 of 5

Our family of three (two adults and one child) stayed at Belle De Jour just last week. Everything about the property was perfect! The home has plenty of space and stays very cool, even when it was over 90 degrees F outside! You will not hear anything but the sound of the wind, some birds, a faint dog barking or church bell, and occasional faint car noise. We live in the US and there is always man made noise somewhere, but not here. It was amazingly peaceful and quiet. The property is very private, you don't see anyone else.

The pool was great, while not heated (or if it is not much) it doesn't matter when it's very hot out.

For the house, everything worked well for us. The clothes washer and a full refrigerator/freezer are in the back utility room on the ground floor. The shower in the ground floor bathroom was great. We needed a little help getting the TV to function correctly for us and Valerie was very timely with her replies and help. Both bedrooms were very comfortable.

Following Homeaway's tips for reviews, yes the listing description was accurate. The property was perfectly clean and very well-maintained. Valerie's customer service and responsiveness well exceeded our expectations. We would and have recommended this property to friends and family. And if we can we will return. We laid pretty low during our stay. But the Super U in Coustellet is very convenient. We enjoyed day trips to Bonnieux, Roussillon, and L'Isle-sur-la-Sorge. We enjoyed dinner at the Carcarille Hotel one evening, lovely outdoor seating.

May your stay at Belle De Jour be as enjoyable as ours was. Thank you Valerie for sharing your lovely property.
