Welcome to Schooner Landing! This four bedroom, waterfront home is situated in a sparsely populated, quiet location with a spectacular view of Harpswell Harbor and Casco Bay. The home sits on a cozy lot that overlooks wide panoramic views of Harpswell Harbor, Stover's Cove, the Cribstone Bridge and the famous Cook's Lobster House. From the expansive private deck enjoy the birds, an occasional seal, and other forms of coastal wildlife. On Saturdays in August watch for the sailboat races in the harbor. Celebrate the 4th of July from the perfect location where you can view the fireworks across the harbor from the deck!
The most attractive feature of Schooner Landing is its gentle shoreline. Beach access is via a set of steps that lead to a pebbly waterfront shore, perfect for swimming, walking, exploring, and launching a canoe or kayak. This is probably the most kid friendly beach area in Harpswell. Cottage rental includes the use of two adult and one children's kayak. The large yards in the front and back are well-groomed and conducive to family games and cookouts. The deck in front extends around the entire house. Useful for meals, cocktails, or an evening card game while enjoying the view.
The first floor features a sun filled living room with full height window walls that face the ocean, a cozy open dining area, and fully-equipped kitchen. New for 2015 is a covered porch on the ocean side deck and new flooring on the second floor. The living room has large windows for enjoying the ocean scenes. Also on the first floor is a full bath with jacuzzi tub, washer, and dryer. A small sitting room has a queen-size futon and TV/DVD, perfect for the kids to rest and watch TV after a long day on the coast.
The second floor has four bedrooms. One with two twins and one with a twin trundle. The other two bedrooms have one queen-size bed each and water views. There is also a full bath on the second floor. The paved driveway leads to an attached two-car garage.
Summer activities can include canoing or kayaking, walks on the beach or short trips to sites like Stover's Cove, the Giant Steps, Bailey Island, Dolphin Marina, Bath and Brunswick. Best of all you are only 40 minutes from Portland and 30 minutes to Freeport.
A new wraparound deck gives ample room to relax outdoors regardless of where the sun might be shining. The TV /family room has been remodeled and features a cathedral ceiling and sunken living space. Best of all the old siding is gone in favor of lovely cedar shakes. New fotos are now available. To see all the fotos just click on the link below.

Renting a private home is different than staying at a hotel. It is important to ask questions before you reserve and to have realistic expectations. We have done our best to describe our properties, however, guest expectations vary. If you have special requests or needs please ask before you reserve. We want to avoid renter's remorse or the old "this was not what I thought it was going to be like". In most cases guests never asked any questions!!!! Refunds at the time of check in are not permitted.
Thank you for your interest.

John and Karen,
Just a note to let you know how much we enjoyed our stay at Schooner
Landing. The house was perfectly suited to our needs. We visited some old
favorite sites and found some new ones. The grandkids loved the ocean and
spent a lot of time down on the beach. I think the lobster stew at the
Dolphin was the best I've eaten. All and all, it was a great week.
I hope we left everything in satisfactory order.
Just wanted to let you know we very much enjoyed our stay. Its a great, peaceful location...... exactly what we all needed.
PS. I've been having some problems with leg cramps while sleeping at night. They miraculously disappeared after my first bowl of Dolphin lobster stew and have not recurred. Apparently, I need to eat fresh Maine sea food on a regular basis. I told my wife we might have to move to Maine if thats what it takes for me to stay cured.
We had a wonderful time in our week at your house. The weather was gorgeous and we loved that because the wind was coming from the right direction, the water in the harbor was very calm. It made for excellent paddling. And the area itself has such a good variety of areas to paddle.
On one trip, we left from the house and paddled all the way up to and under the bridge on Mountain Road. A nice older man up there told us all about the little boat access where you can leave a vehicle parked on the hard-packed sand beach right up to two hours on either side of high tide. It seems the local clam diggers know all about it - there must have been 1/2 dozen trucks parked there that day.
We made our traditional one day trip to Popham Beach. It was sad to see how much erosion had taken place over the winter and the number of scrub pines that died because they're now on the water side of the dunes. But, on the other hand, and we don't know how this happened, the water was warmer than any other summer we've visited Popham in over the last 20-years. We spent quite a bit of time (right at low tide) way out at the surf's edge riding the waves in on boogie boards and crashing the surf. We also found quite a few sand dollars larger than the size of silver dollars. When the rhythm of the waves was at it quietest, if we walked around in about 2 - 3' of water, we could see sand dollars lying right on top of the sand on the ocean floor.
The week went by quickly. Much too quickly. And we were more than happy with the house - its location, the beach, the easy access to our kayaks for paddling in the area, the beautiful views from the front lawn (although we do think that big tree in the middle needs to go), the size of the house and number of bedrooms which easily accommodated our adult children. Even Bean, our Maine Coon cat, loved the house.
Thank you for everything. And we hope to be contacting you later this year about reservations for next summer.
P.S. Thanks for providing such good tasting blackberries. We made waffles for breakfast almost every morning and each morning, my niece would pick a big bowl of them and we'd stir them into our waffle batter.
This is me! Actually us...we hope you enjoy your vacation...let us know if we can help.
John and Karen purchased this cottage in 2003
Incredible shorefront and views, our kids love it!
Swimming, playing on the beach and fireworks on the 4th of July!
It has been an excellent vacation. We love the house, the location, the people we have seen about, the food (oh-my-goodness) and the weather. It was more than expected. Thank you for your generous hospitality.
Schooner Landing is the perfect spot for your next Maine vacation with family and friends. This warm and welcoming cottage has everything you need to make yourselves at home while enjoying the wonderful Harpswell setting.
Five of us stayed at Schooner Landing Cottage while enjoying a Thanksgiving weekend at our daughter's nearby home. The views are beautiful, the cottage is very well outfitted and comfortable, and we all had plenty of room. We have been coming to the Brunswick area for over 20 years and just love it. The walk on Stover's Point was wonderful. Thank you so much for a wonderful weekend. We hope to be back soon.
Wonderful accommodations! A killer view of the bay from both rear bedrooms upstairs, and the kitchen, dining, and family rooms on the first floor. A nice porch outside for those who want to watch the sunrise from outside. Well-outfitted with everything we needed for our stay, and very clean when we arrived. Located in a quiet area in a beautiful setting with lots of fall foliage viewing in the immediate area.
A set of stairs leads from the rear of the house to the typical rocky Maine beach, which is great for early morning walks (check the tide charts to plan your beach excursions as the beach is fully covered at high tide). Look carefully and you'll find lots of sea glass! It was too cold (mid-October) and we had too little time to break out the kayaks supplied with the property, unfortunately, but a kayak ride around the bay would have been awesome. Perhaps next time!
There are several great restaurants nearby, but be sure to check if they are open before heading out: some operate seasonally, closing after Columbus Day. Also remember to check the hours of operation, as some restaurants open after breakfast and close by 8pm (times may be seasonal). Cook's Corner and the Dolphin Marina were both great; the lobster rolls at Cook's were incredible. Downtown Brunswick - about 25 minutes away - is a nice college town with lots of unique shops and restaurants.
There don't appear to be a lot of convenience stores close by, so be sure to stop at the Hannaford's Market in Brunswick on your way to the property; if you forget there's a nice little café (the School House?) about 10 minutes away on the road to Brunswick where you can get breakfast.
Very happy with our rental, and would certainly not hesitate to rent again if our plans bring us to the Harpswell area again!
We have stayed in multiple different homes, this one has everything, beach for the kids to play on, great views, kayaks, open kitchen- living- dining room, 4 bed rooms plus. Outside great deck with swing, gas grill, fire pit and yard for the kids to run around. My family all agree this was the best house ever!!!!!!!! Pictures online do not give it justice.
This vacation rental and location worked out perfectly for our needs...Two families traveling together who wanted to relax and dine on local lobster on the provided picnic table with a beautiful view!
Great beach access for kayaking and swims. Location of house felt private and in protected waters.
Kitchen was well equipped . Views in Master bedrooms were exceptional.
Our only suggestions would be to include a more detailed "Guide Book" for guests to detail what days to put out trash, etc...... maybe this is online but we were "off the grid" for a total relaxation vacation...which was easy to get at this place!
We spent a week at Schooner Landing with our children and another family. The kids loved the ease of the outdoor space, and we loved the open layout. The kitchen was well supplied and the bedrooms were relatively soundproof. The best part was waking up every morning to the sunrise through the two master bedroom panoramic windows. We also enjoyed kayaking, but make sure to bring life jackets! Stairs to the beach were steep for little kids, and shoreline is typical Maine (rocky, cold). A great getaway from the chaos of life.
The Town of Harpswell, located on Casco Bay, Is a short scenic ride from Portland, Freeport, Bath and Boothbay Maine. Harpswell is the unspoiled coastal community that is accessible by way of the beautiful Bowdoin College town of Brunswick. Harpswell is a unique coastal community which recently celebrated its 250th birthday. For over 100 years Harpswell has been a mecca for vacationers seeking a saltwater environment, a serene way of life, and an abundance of natural beauty. Its 216 miles of coastline consists of Harpswell Neck, the three large islands of
Sebascodegan (Great Island), Orr’s, and Bailey, which are connected by bridges, the most notable being The Cribstone Bridge, and a scattering of over 200 smaller islands accessible only by boat. With some of the few remaining working harbors on the Maine coast, it offers an authenticity of which we are proud.
Harpswell has it all! Light houses, Ocean views, walking trails, beaches, Historical sites, working lobster harbors and marinas all here in the Mid Coast Maine region.
