About Norman Shelburne
I am the Artistic Director Emeritus of the North Star Ballet and have been in Fairbanks for 35 years. I am happy to share my experience of living in Alaska with my guests.
Norman Shelburne purchased this House in 2001
Why Norman Shelburne chose Fairbanks
I choose this property because it affords spectacular views of the Tanana Valley and the Alaska Range beyond. On seven forested acres it seems remote, but is only 10 minutes from Fairbanks.
What makes this House unique
Fjell Blikk Hytte is a custom built log home featuring period antiques, antique quilts and a significant collection of pottery of Southern Appalachia.

Wonderful home- way over delivered, and the home completely made our stay in Fairbanks. Loved his beautiful collections, the lovely view and the warmth of the home. Can't recommend this home enough.
Absolutely wonderful relaxing stay
We had the most amazing stay, I wish we didn’t have to leave. The house is filled with stunning antiques, around every corner is a new discovery.
The house was perfect for our family to relax together, enjoy making meals together, play games while enjoying the beautiful surrounding views and at night relax in front of the fireplace.
Our host Norman was great. He responded within half a day and was there to welcome us. Very accommodating and the house was fully equipped with everything we could need, including a few basic pantry items.
The house is up in the woods, which we loved. Completely isolated with views of woods, the river and the valley from every angle. Still it is only an easy 15min drive into town.
Exactly what we needed for a very relaxing stay!
Very beautiful home located in a wooded area but close enough to all the activities. Everything was perfect, the only recommendation would be to upgrade to a queen size bed in the downstairs bedroom and possibly provide a larger tv for viewing. I have recommended this property to all my friends looking to visit Fairbanks. If I ever get out that way again, I would stay here again!
Beautiful place to retreat
We were pleased to find a well kept quiet cabin we could relax in after a busy few days in Denali.
Amazing Log Home in 'Fairbanks
beautiful home, with great location and view! Loved the garden and patio/deck area and all the amazing woodwork and antiques. One of the coolest and largest places we have stayed for the money. Had to ask for a blow dryer but brought a new one same day.
recommendations to owner
1. put fans in the bedrooms to use on warmer days since no A/C.
2. The everyday glasses & coffee mugs were in a high cabinet you couldn't reach without a stool and
3. all the pans were hung up, none except very small ones were nonstick which made a mess when cooking eggs and oatmeal. So some lower cabinets or place to store glasses would help a lot. And a few nonstick pans lower down to reach as well.
4. updating the sofa/chairs would go a long way to increase the beauty of the house as that is the first thing seen when you walk in and detracts from the amazing beauty of the place
We stayed here when our daughter got married and we couldn’t have been happier. This is a wonderful home for entertaining and feeding a large group. We loved the beautiful quilts and antiques everywhere, the quiet, the deck and we all enjoyed Mr. Shelburne. He is such a wonderful man! We would definitely stay here again!
Chena Hot Springs is a comfortable drive from the house - it has a swimming pool fed by natural hot springs
