About long lee
We are American expats having lived in Fiji for three years about 20 years ago, and never forgotten the charm of the land and its people. On retirement we decided to visit Fiji to view the home at Salt Lake which property we had viewed for years. Up close and personal, the home's beauty and serenity indeed surpassed our imagination. Then and there we decided this was the place we wanted to be - certainly a paradise deserving to be shared with others.
long lee purchased this Lodge in 2016
Why long lee chose Savusavu
We love Fiji where the land is still largely unspoiled and undeveloped, and where people are happy and friendly. This stunningly beautiful property sweeps down from the hilly forested area to the waterway which feeds Fiji's Salt Lake from the Koro Sea. There is tidal access to the Lake and the Koro Sea from our own waterfront where a delightful new reef is being formed. From this corner of paradise, life blossoms - rich tropical growth coloring the uneven landscape, interspersing with coconut and tropical fruit trees, which produce naturally organic and delicious fruits. It is easy to be at peace with oneself and all the world here in this peaceful and serene environment, where the chirping of birds and rustling of leaves provide the only sound and chorus of the day.
What makes this Lodge unique
Beautifully remote yet only 30 minutes from town, our home is situated at the edge of the waterway leading from the Koro Sea to Salt Lake. Ensconced in a rain forest with coconut and fruit trees with the reef, lake, and river practically at our doorsteps... this is Fiji!

We had a great time. The staff there were out standing. We choose to have the chef to cook all of our meals. He did a wonderful job.
Lodge needs a few improvement.
Amazing Fiji getaway
I wanted my kids to experience the real Fiji, away from the tourist/resort stuff. The Salt Lake Lodge was exactly what I was looking for, something laid back and out of the way yet still comfortable.
Ac and the staff were very accommodating. My kids went fishing and swimming almost every day, and we took little adventures with Solo to go to the waterfall or snorkel at split rock. That lake is no joke - it is huge and you have almost the entire thing to yourself.
We opted for the chef every night, and Jose did not disappoint. Each time we mentioned little things we liked or didn't like, they were able to adjust quickly. I was particularly impressed at how many creative ways they were able to make things like cakes without eggs for my daughter that has an egg allergy. The food was comparable to a night out a restaurant every night. They even did a great job preparing the fish we caught.
I decided not to rent a car, which worked out great since the staff was available to help take us places, but I can see how some people might prefer to do more themselves and make their own meals.
We were initially concerned about the drinking water, but they assured us it was collected rain water, and sure enough, it tasted great and none of us got sick. They also have bottled Fiji water if you prefer, but I couldn't taste the difference. The showers are solar powered, which was kind of interesting.
The only thing that didn't work out without a hitch were the bicycles. I think they need new chains or something and the pump didn't work. But my kids had more than enough to do, collecting crabs from the beach and playing with the three dogs.
Little things I'll remember, like being able to play music over their bluetooth speaker, or being able to grab a beer, or watch a couple movies at night on the comfy couches in the screened in room surrounded by the sounds of the forest. Or reading books on those chairs floating on the river's edge in the mornings.
Tip: bring some insect repellent. And don't expect much internet connectivity (which was a plus for my iPhone addicted kids)
If you are still trying to decide, just go. You will have fun and be amazed.
The best in fiji!
My husband and I could nor have asked for a better experience. This place had it all! Great view, perfect location, everything you could ask for. On top of that, the staff was AMAZING! Lily made us the best meals, uncle Toby made sure everything was always perfect and the private tour guide Solo was so nice and knew everything about the culture. The owners and their son Tyler were a delight. We can't wait to come again and we already miss "our little family".
Amazing Private Retreat!
I had an amazing time at the salt lake lodge! our Chef/guide Shavneil, was amazing! he took such good care of us! He is an amazing chef! every meal was magazine worthy and delicious! I fell asleep every night to the river flowing outside my window. and woke up to fish jumping! I've never been so sad to leave a place! I would love to plan another trip soon! thank you Salt lake lodge for your hospitality!

Merci Anne, we enjoyed meeting you and are very happy you had a fantastic Fiji Experience.
We hope to see you again some day.I can understand almost everything in your review BUT my French is not good enough to write . Thanks again. Regards from Sonja and Andrew.
Romantic Secluded Getaway
The property was nicely nestled in a dense and largely untouched tropical mangrove forest right on the clear salt lake river. While it was only a short five minute walk from the main road, the lodge was wonderfully private. We were able to blast some tunes on their speaker system in the shared beach house area without concern of disturbing any neighbors.
We stayed in the Riversong Bure, which was a clean and beautiful little room situated a little ways away from the main area. When we were there, we were lucky to have the entire place to ourselves, but for those sharing the main beach house with other guests, our little bure would be the perfect private retreat. The kitchen was clean and modern and fully stocked. The owners, Andrew and Sonja, were great hosts giving us lots of local fruits and vegetables and accommodating our various needs. Using the free hand lines at the dock, we were able to catch large fish for almost every meal during our stay - so if you're a big fish eater you might get lucky with lots of delicious free meals.
All in all, the Salt Lake Lodge was a wonderful retreat and more than we could hope for. My husband and I were on our mini honeymoon and couldn't afford too much and the lodge far exceeded our expectations! Definitely stay here if you are looking for a really private escape and don't mind catering for yourself.
This beach front home is situated on a 5-acre compound among the mangrove and rain forests, with a well tended luxurious tropical garden. Kayak to Salt Lake or the uninhabited island facing the sea, or simply enjoy swimming, fishing and snorkeling off the pontoon.
Salt Lake is fed by ocean tides flowing over the reef from the Koro Sea via the Qaloqalo salt river. The lake covers an area of about 100 acres and is a fantastic place to fish and kayak. Home of the legendary sea god Dakuwaga, the river was an ancient passage for the Fijians who carried their canoes over the hills from the Salt Lake to the great Natewa Bay the largest in the South Pacific. The bay has pods of spinner dolphins, remote snorkeling and deserted beaches. Anglers can fish the reef, river, lake lagoon and the nearby Koro sea - all just minutes away by boat from the property.
The area's reputation as a rich fishing and snorkeling grounds with bountiful natural habitats on land and at sea remains largely hidden beyond those few in the know. Sightings of turtles, reef fish, soft and hard corals, trevally, yellow fin and dolphin are the norms here.
A few minutes walk from the compound takes you to the main coastal road of Hibiscus Highway and from there, about 30-minute scenic drive to Savusavu town and the airport. Savusavu is a quaint South Pacific island town where you can find amenities such as a post office, yacht club, pharmacy, shops, grocers, open air markets, restaurants. A visit to the town would also give you insights to the rhythm of Fijian life, the notable Fijian friendliness and hospitality, and enrich your experience during the stay at this idyllic tropical getaway.
Other activities: Kayaking, swimming, boating, snorkeling, diving, fishing, tubing, biking, walking.
