Clean and a great layout for multiple people.

  • 5 of 5

We had everything we needed for our two families to enjoy a comfortable stay. We enjoyed relaxing in the outdoor hot tub and inside by the open fireplace. It is only a short walk to a general store that offers take out and groceries. There were beautiful lake views and we were located in a quiet area. The house was clean and spacious, plenty of space for our combined families of nine to eat and play games. We loved that it was close to multiple affordable ski mountains. We have only stayed in the winter and now are planning a trip back in the summer to enjoy the lake!

Relaxing getaway!

  • 5 of 5

This is our second vacation in the Country House and our third overall in Tim's houses. We were pleased to see the newly refurbished wood floors and stairs, making the home even more quaint and nostalgic. We enjoyed skiing at Black Mountain with our family, hours of hot tub time, and a of course our adults night out to Oxford's Casino. We consider the customer service to be "excellent", as we never had any issues with the home. There was plenty of literature in the house to answer any questions from appliance use to how to start a fire in the fireplace. We can't wait to plan our next trip in warmer weather to make use of beautiful Lake Christopher. Thank You Tim.

Excellent and perfect for my large family!!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed at The Maine Country house last week and absolutely loved it. The fireplace, hot tub and space to relax were perfect. The setting with the lake near by for cross country skiing were super convenient for my wife and I, while the kids headed off to Sunday River for a day of downhill. We enjoyed cooking at home, instead dining out, and had a great time. I believe the owners must have just updated the carpets and floors because everything was spotless and smelled new.

I'd recommend this to any large family who wants a "home style" environment.

Sincerely, Sam.

Impeccable, Captivating, true Maine experience

  • 5 of 5

This weekend, myself and two friends were looking for a homey location to enjoy ourselves while we came to Maine for our annual ski trip.

The house offered us a much more enjoyable stay than what we could have wished for.

As the first person to arrived, I was relieved and happy to find 'The Country House' well shoveled and plowed. The home was impeccably clean, and enough wood for the fireplace to last us more than a week!

The best part of the home was the amazing views on the side of Bryant Pond, where we where able to watch the local Ice Fisherman earn their catch. The water was frozen and we were able to venture over the Maine's beautiful mountainous landscape.

The home also had a lovely sun room, which was the most luxurious feeling place to rise with the sun, eat breakfast, and energize for the long days of shredding ahead.

The hot tub, with a view of the lake sized pond, offered the optimal place to relax and enjoy a few drinks after skiing.

Overall a 5 star experience, for the low cost!

Highly recommend for any group of friends, team members, and especially for family outings! Cant wait to come back for next year and possibly this summer...

Disappointing

  • 2 of 5

We stayed at this property for two nights - a group of 9 women. The house was generally dated - the furnishings were in some disrepair, sofas were dusty (anyone sitting on them sneezed continually), carpet on the stairs was threadbare, light switches didn't always work, a bulb was out, table was very small for a house that sleeps 9.

The biggest challenge was that the hot tub was set at 68 when we arrived (February!). We turned it up and it came up to temperature later in the evening but it was later than when we wanted to use the hot tub. Then we found out that the rug in the kitchen was soaked - turns out the hose that was used to fill the hot tub had been put into a closet in the kitchen without being drained.

We just wanted a fun girls' weekend away. We still had a good time but the house isn't at all what I expected. It was just a bit rundown.

As a side note, the owner and the property manager returned my calls on that check-in evening after I called about the hot tub. They were concerned and responded promptly. However, earlier in the week when I called to confirm and ask for a later checkout, I got no response to emails or phone messages.

Owner's Response: In response to your review, I want to thank you for your candid feedback about your stay. Our goal is to give you an experience that meets your expectations and through direct customer feedback , like yours we are able to improve our operation. The Maine Country House is a rustic, authentic Maine lake house typical of others in the area. Our website provides many pictures of the rooms in the house. The furnishings are functional and in working order. Our cleaning staff verified that these furnishings are cleaned and vacuumed after each stay. As for the hot tub issue, our staff member was instructed to turn the thermostat up to 98 degrees prior to your arrival. There was a misunderstanding of the instructions and, unfortunately, the thermostat was not set to the proper temperature. The hot tub required a few hours to heat up and then it was in fine working order for the weekend. To address the late check-out comment, I don't recall receiving any calls or voicemail messages earlier in the week prior to your arrival regarding this request. After you and your group checked in and phoned me regarding the issue you were having, I responded in a timely manner, as you mentioned. It was at that time that I first received (and granted) the late check-out request and was happy to do so. This is the first complaint we have received about this house and I have owned The Maine Houses for 20 years. If you look on our website, we have many testimonials from different groups that have enjoyed staying with us. I sincerely apologize that you and your guests had some issues but, in general, it seems that you had a good time.
