About Joel T. Moak
Joel is an LSU graduate and a retired petroleum engineer. Post retirement I operated an art gallery in the French Quarter on Jackson Square for 8 years. I'm a historic preservationist. And now I'm the Hidden Gem owner/operator because I love welcoming guests to my home, my neighborhood and New Orleans.
Joel T. Moak purchased this Guest House in 1980
Why Joel T. Moak chose Lower Garden District
I discovered this property while working with the Historic District Landmarks Commission and just fell in love with it. I got to gut and restore everything, retaining as much of the original woodwork and features that I could. It was truly a labor of hard work and love that i enjoy sharing with others
What makes this Guest House unique
This is a side hall New Orleans shotgun house. The guest suite has original chimneys and fireplaces (non-working now). The kitchen cabinets were built from the homes' salvaged original wood. The wainscoting was all original woodwork that i hand scraped. It is truly my labor of love that i'm sharing.
