You will feel like you're walking the pages of a history book when you walk down the floral alleyways of the small village of Saint-Martin-de-Re. The old fortress built by Vauban has defensive walls and buildings that have stayed almost completely intact. The house was built in the historic district, 200m from the port and the sea. This is a unique place to spend an authentic holiday surrounded by flavours of bygone days.
The old door opens onto an open-air patio, creating much light. Paved with Charentes stones, furnished with the original kitchen sink, it's hidden from view and has a table and flat-top plancha grill for outdoor dining.
From here you reach the living space, a gorgeous area with exposed beams that has a living room, a dining room, and an open kitchen, with an original Lacanche oven and all mod cons. There is also a guest toilet and a laundry room.
The staircase with bannisters (typical of the region) lead to the first floor where there are three lovely wood-panelled bedrooms:
• Vauban bedroom with queen size bed and view of the road, facing East
• Campani bedroom with twin beds that can be joined to make a queen, view of the patio, facing West
• Texier bedroom with twin beds, one mezzanine, view of the road, facing East
• Shower room
Linens, sheets, and towels are provided. The beds will be freshly made on arrival. Weekly housekeeping is included with the rental, along with cleaning on departure. You will find toiletries in the bathrooms and a gourmet food basket in the kitchen.
