“Nice host, nice apartment, nice place”

The apartment was recently redecorated, it is tidy, in a family home area, well equipped. The hosts gave us a nice welcome and helped us getting around in the area. We stayed in the apartment for a week in Dublin area. We had wished a larger bathroom area, other than that the place was just fine for what he had intended to do, sightseeing and exploring the area with hiking etc. Dalkey is a pretty village, very quiet and with easy connection to the city. Recommended!

“Lovely Holiday”

We had a lovely stay here at a lovely location, lots of shops, pubs and restaurants, plenty of coastal walks and swimmimg as well as trips to Dublin. The owner was very accommodating offering lifts to and from the Airbus stop and he gave us a tour of the village and surrounding area which was really helpful at getting your bearings and all the local information. The apartment is new and has everything you need and there was a welcome hamper when we arrived, well worth a stay. You don’t need a car as the DART is super.

What makes this apartment unique

Why is Dalkey so popular?

You will have such a wide choice with fast rail & bus links so you can visit all areas of Dublin, Wicklow and Ireland. Direct Air Coach link from the Airport.

Dalkey has an ancient, rich and varied history. It rose to prominence through great surges of activity and rested as a sleepy fishing village in the intervening times.

It grew from early settlers on Dalkey Island when the surrounding area was covered in forests and the only pathways were along the rivers and coastlines.

We know that both Dalkey Island and Dalkey mainland became places of early Christian ecclesiastical importance with their two churches dedicated to St Begnet as pilgrims made their way to Glendalough.

We have evidence of the Vikings making the island their base to trade slaves from.

We know Dalkey served as the port for Dublin in medieval times, with the large ships at anchor in Dalkey Sound. Dalkey declined and languished peacefully until the great sea tragedies of 1807 led to great activity in the Quarry for the building of Dun Laoghaire Harbour. When the railways came in 1830s & 1840s some of the fine houses we know today were built.

Today there is welcoming local community and the area is home to many creative artists such as writers, musicians, film directors and rock stars. This tradition goes back John Dowland the famous musician who was associated with the area in the 1600s. He was known in all the courts of Europe, the Bono of his day! Today many creative people live quite unobtrusively among the local community who are proud of their rich ancestral heritage and welcome the visitor to share the ancient history of their home town.

Dalkey

The 7 castles of Dalkey were called:

Dungan's

Yellow Castle.

Wolverton's

Archbold's

Dalkey Castle (later called Goat Castle)

House Castle

Black Castle.

Dalkey became a fortified settlement, protecting the townspeople from marauding attack by the riotous O'Byrne and O'Toole clans from deep within Wicklow

Great apartment for our visit

  • 5 of 5

Bright, clean, well equipped apartment for two. We had everything we needed - well equipped kitchen, wi-fi, tv, washer and dryer. It's a short walk down to the village for groceries, dining and the Dart station. We found that, after a long day, it only cost 5-6 euro for a taxi from the Dart station back up to the apartment.

This nicely decorated, spotlessly clean, comfortable apartment is a wonderful place to stay and a splendid base for exploring the villages along the coast. The Dart is only a five minute scenic walk away. Staying here meant having all the pleasant advantages of life in a quiet, beautiful village while being easily able to travel to vibrant Dublin.

Pleasant stay in Dalkey

  • 4 of 5

The apartment was very nice and we enjoyed the Dalkey area as a base to explore Dublin. Our only wish was that there had been a dryer to go with the washing machine. Because we were there in the fall with damp weather we spent a lot of time and effort to get our clothes dry. The rest of the apartment was very comfortable and well furnished.

Great location, close to dart, nice apartment

  • 5 of 5

Great location in Dalkey short walk to town. Very close to the Dart. Apartment is fantastic. Nice couch and TV. Bed is comfy, plenty of space to hang clothes and etc. Kitchen is great too. Everything you need to cook meals at home to save time and money instead of always eating out. Very safe area and very quiet. Only warning is the hills up to the apartment can be difficult if you are out of shape. Owner is very accommodating and super nice! 5 out 5 stars!!! Thanks Jim!!!
