About Sheila or Jim

I am an outdoor enthusiast! I love fresh air, hiking, scuba diving, sailing, golfing and spending time with my daughter Malana!

Sheila or Jim purchased this condo in 2007

Why Sheila or Jim chose Kauai

It's near the beach. Watching the sunrise over Shipwreck Cove on the Lanai that opens to a lush open green area while having my morning breakfast and sipping on the best coffee around! Watching the waves break from the great view from the kitchen window! Nice trade winds from the North East.

What makes this condo unique

A short walk to the beach. Golf courses are 3 blocks away!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We enjoyed how lush and green the island was. Beautiful beaches, not over crowded with tourists! Easy to get around. Loved the condo. Decorated very nice, very clean, and functional. Kitchen was perfect and loved being on he main ground floor. So beautiful looking outside! It was a wonderful trip and the guest hope to come back and stay here again in the future! It was perfect for them!

Just What We Needed

  • 5 of 5

This unit is really lovely. The lanai has a beautiful view. I loved seeing the newlyweds getting photographed everynight at the resort right next to complex! We climbed the rocks all around the surrounding property, took a lovely walk to the beach every morning there are paved trails everywhere. One morning while snorkeling at Poipu beach I ended up right next to a pretty monk seal. She ended up staying with us for about 30 minutes. We stayed for 15 days and I was able to snorkel almost everyday, we walked everyday, went on 3 beautiful hikes, went on the funniest ATV TOUR and relaxed a lot! I cooked quite a bit and the kitchen had everything, the grill is literally 3 minutes away at the pool and situated very nicely. The bedroom is next to the road but honestly with ceiling fan on we were only slightly bothered by the road noise. The bathroom was lovely...really! I found a small local market in the old town Sueoka Store, they have everything in small sizes fresh veggies, fruit..just loved it. The family that run it have been around forever. I rented beach chairs and snorkeling gear from local family right around the corner at KIMOS--they were also wonderful, they have bikes and boards too. You can return items even when they are closed! I had one issue and was able to speak to the owner and he was able to assist very quickly. We have been to Maui 7 times this was our first trip to Kauai and it was beyond beautiful. Every restaurant we went to were recommended by previous visitors and they were all very good. Be sure to read the 2 journals were visitors have left thank you's there is a ton of information in them. Can't wait to return and feel very lucky to have found this unit. PS..we had no problems with sticky floors at all and we were able to keep a cool breeze running through the unit with no problem.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your kind review! It's very appreciated. Sounds like you had a wonderful time. So glad it met your expectations and more! I also appreciated your comment on the journals that previous guests write in. The kitchen is quite lovely and plenty of room to move around! Glad we were able to resolve your issue with in a timely manner. Thanks for letting us know. The sticky floor situation I believe has been addressed appropriately. Thanks for letting us know. Nice trade winds do a good job in keeping the condo comfortable. Hope to see you back visiting again in the future! Mahalo!

Clean, comfortable and convenient!

  • 5 of 5

I stayed here with my husband and 10 month old son and this unit was exactly what we needed!

The playpen and highchair were very convenient, although it would have been useful to have a sheet for the playpen for hygienic reasons. We ended up using a larger sheet found in the linen closet and folded it to make it fit the playpen for our child to sleep in.

Suite was very well maintained and looked exactly like the photos. We used the kitchen quite often and it had pretty much everything we needed. The only things we felt were missing were steak knives, and a kettle to boil water for my morning tea (but there is a coffee maker for coffee drinkers). No big deal, we made do just fine.

We also used the BBQ to cook dinner one night. I read from a previous poster that the BBQ area is quite far, but I just want to point out that there are a couple of BBQ areas, one further, and one within the pool area, which is not too far from this unit.

I was a bit worried about comfort level since I am pretty heat sensitive and get rashes easily with too much humidity, but I slept very comfortably in this suite. We kept the windows open which allowed a very nice breeze through and helped keep the unit quite cool. There were also ceiling fans in both the living area and the bedroom (although I felt the one in the bedroom was not as strong), nonetheless, there were also 2 additional tower fans available for use that are stored in the bedroom closet.

There were a couple of hot nights where we used the tower fans in addition to the ceiling fan, but some cooler nights we didn't use anything except for the windows.

The suite was also well stocked with shampoo/soap/conditioner, towels, cooler (which was very convenient to take with us on the go), beach chairs, beach mats, etc. I also saw some snorkel gear, but didn't know this would be available and we already rented our own gear.

The floors did feel like there was a sticky residue to it as mentioned in another review, so I had to rinse the sticky film off my feet before going to bed. I felt the floor could use a very good hot water mop to get rid of the residue.

The location was great, with a nice view of Shipwreck beach and close drive to other Poipu beaches, restaurants and markets.

All in all, our stay was fantastic and we would definitely stay here again!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your 5 star rating and kind comments. We are very pleased that you had a wonderful time and enjoyed your stay in our clean and comfortable home. We did have a teapot at one time. We will check into that. Yes the breezes make the condo very comfortable for most guests. The louvered blinds the way they are set maximize the airflow from the nice trade winds. Yes two extra fans can be found in the bedroom closet. They may be important to those who need extra air circulation and white noise. (Like myself). There is a special tile cleaner that our cleaning crew uses that works great, although after a couple of days the salt air does trap dust from the roads and what is brought in daily from coming and going. We do however, hope that the floors were clean when you arrived. We feel as long as the windows and possibly the doors are open, it's just part of the Island salt air from the ocean. :) Thank you!

Pretty in Poipu

  • 4 of 5

Very nice place to stay ,we enjoyed the quietness of the complex .The closeness to the Hyatt was very nice as we were able to walk to dinner at the Tidepools and Dondros , which were amazing restaurants !! I would recommend that new bedding ( comforter , sheets ) be replaced , as they seemed old and out of date , maybe all white bedding to make it seem "spa like" also a good cleaning of the tile floors as they seemed sticky and dirty , I had to wear socks to keep my feet clean . But all in all it was very comfortable , just needs some updating from the old Hawaiian look to fresh clean white vacation look , would look great if all the walls were painted white or cream instead of the greens that they are now. Nice place would stay there again !

Owner's Response: Thank you for your comment in giving us a 4 star out of 5. We used to have cream walls and they did not stand out well with the molding so we stayed with the tropical look. Yes we will replace the sheets with white as they are 1 year old now. Thanks for that! The comforter is brand new, and was special ordered to go with the décor of the condo. The light weight is perfect. Thanks for the floor input, sounds like cleaning liquid. That is unacceptable and will be addressed. Sounds like overall you had a great time and would come back to visit again, so come back soon! Thank you!

Lovely condo

Very nice condo, very clean, wonderful view of ocean from patio and kitchen. We have stayed in other condos in this location and this was the nicest one. Did not give five stars because I felt the linens were in need of replacement.

Very roomy condo with lanai and beautiful view. I was alone so didn't really cook, altho new oven was installed as I arrived.

It was quite warm every night and air conditioning would have been welcome. The fan in the bedroom was helpful.

Pool is huge and lovely. All the grounds are beautifully kept.

Nearest Airport
15 Miles
Lihue Airport
Car: necessary

South shore best bets: Best short cliff stroll: To the left of Shipwreck Beach near the Hyatt. Beautiful views. Best snorkeling is around the sandy point at Po'ipu Beach Park. Best sunset view: At Spouting Horn Beach Park along Lawa'i Road not far from the condo. Best Hot Dog: Puka Dogs located in the Po'ipu shopping village up the street. Best treat: Baked Chocolate Souffle' at Roy's Po'ipu Bar & Grill. Best place to watch cliff jumpers: Shipwreck Beach at the Hyatt Po'ipu. Best swimming: Po'ipu Beach Park. Best Hotel Grounds: Grand Hyatt. Best chance of seeing a Beached Monk Seal: Po'ipu Beach Park. Best chance of seeing green sea turtles: The Point At Po'ipu. Best Romantic Restaurant: Tidepools at the Grand Hyatt or Beach House at Sunset. Just a five minute beautiful stroll along the greenbelt and sidewalks that are also lit up at night from the condo. Best drive close by: Koloa: Driving down Hwy 520 you come to the town of Koloa, sometimes called Old Koloa Town. This was the first sugar plantation town in all the islands when Kamehameha III leased the land to Ladd and Company in 1835. The town has much charm and is worth a stop. Next to Crazy Shirts Store there is a marvelous monkey-pod tree whose branches seem to meander forever. Across the street (kitty-corner) from the shops are the remnants of an old sugar mill built over 170 years ago. There you will also find a plague dedicated to the sugar plantation workers and a good (if somewhat dated) synopsis of sugar history on the island. Just a bit of history on the South Shore. Just before Spouting Horn (which is a must to see) and great shopping there as well, you will come upon the National Tropical Botanical Garden. This incredibly beautiful garden consist of 252 acres called the McBryde Garden and 80 acres call the Allerton Garden (742-2623). Even if you normally wouldn't visit a garden, you'll probably like this one. This is truly the garden Island! Island nightlife around Po'ipu: Steven-son's Library at the Grand Hyatt is designed to appeal to anyone who ever wanted to visit the private library of one of the Rockefellers. Richly decorated, bookcases filled with classic, pool tables (not billiards), large aquarium, chess tables and a terrace with GREAT ocean views. The bar is the center attractions and is beautifully crafted out of strips of koa and monkey- pod. A bit pricey though on the cocktails and some nights they have sushi. Live music nightly usually starting at 8p.m. Outside the resort, your best bet is Keoki's Paradise at 742-7534 in the Po'ipu Shopping Village. They have Hawaiian entertainment in their nice-looking lounge most nights. Hula demonstrations in the shopping center's courtyard some nights. (Great place to see lots of different birds as well that like to hang out )! Best Lu'au: If you've ever seen a movie that takes place in Hawai'i, odds are there was a lu'au scene. This is where everyone stands around with a mai tai in one hand and a plate of kalua pig in the other. There's always a show where someone is twirling a torch lit at both ends, and, of course, the obligatory hula dancers. The pig is baked in the ground(called an imu) all day and is absolutely delicious. Kaua'i's lu'au are somewhat smaller and more pleasant. All in all. a Lu'au can be a real blast. If your time allows for one it is highly recommended that you do so at the Grand Hyatt. This is a more traditional one as well. All in all its a beautiful Island with plenty to do!
