This charming property is centrally located, just north of downtown & UT campus and right next door to the new Dell Children's Hospital. Two parks (with playgrounds, tennis courts, and pool) within walking distance. Bus stop one block from rental - on the bus route to UT. Distance to local attractions: 2.7 miles to University of Texas, 3.6 miles to 6th Street (downtown music district), 3.9 miles to Austin Convention Center, 5.9 miles to Zilker park (location of ACL). Butler cottage comes with a fully equipped kitchen, high speed wireless, fenced in yard, and tons of personality. It is ideal for corporate rentals, visiting family/friends, UT fans (great access to the stadium), music festivals (SXSW & ACL), or just getting to know Austin.
City Wildlife!: Our neighborhood boasts a family of Peacocks. They roam freely and are usually wandering through our and our neighbor's yards in the morning and early afternoon. Their distinct calls can be heard from the trees where they perch in the evenings.
We are Rob and Reyna. We are an Austin couple with 2 kids, a dog, and a cat. Before the kids came, we traveled a lot and used VRBO almost exclusively. So, when we found a house with an attached studio, it seemed natural to rent it out as a vacation rental.
Reyna Bishop purchased this studio in 2005
We live in the house connected to the studio. This is an advantage in many ways. Not only are we more accessible to our guests, but we have a closer connection to the house. It is an old house (1940s) with all the charms and problems that come with that. The neighborhood is friendly and walkable and we love the proximity to downtown Austin.
You cannot find a better place for the price and location. This cottage is located on Airport Blvd and I-35, which only puts you within minutes from downtown Austin or North Austin. I've stayed at this place a few times and always happy with my accomodations. Love the privacy and the "austin vibe" to this little cottage. As a frequent business traveler, having homey feel to my lodging such as Butler cottage is a fresh alternative to bland hotel rooms with fluroscent lightings and stained sheets. I love doing Austin weekends and this cottage always assures me a cool stay for my budget
We stayed here for five nights in October. What a wonderful little studio apartment. Everything we needed was here, and everything was squeaky clean and well maintained. The owner (Reyna) is extremely friendly and helpful. We enjoyed meeting her.
I see some folks dinging it for being small. I would agree if it were more than just my wife and I. But for a couple, this was perfect. The bedroom alone is about the same size as a typical hotel room. So you have more space and functionality than you would in a hotel.
The Ikea kitchen has everything you need. We didn't do any big time cooking, but we could have if we needed to. We made our own breakfast almost every morning, and heated up restaurant leftovers one night. The rest of the time we were in pursuit of the best chicken fried steak or BBQ!
For those looking for BBQ, this property is just off the highway that is a straight shot Lockhart. Less than 45 minutes to BBQ Mecca. We like Smitty's. Just sayin.
The bath was a little tight. But how much space do you really need? There was ample room to get the essentials done, and the fact that there was a bathtub was a huge plus for my wife. She was able to relax in a hot bath after one particularly long hiking day.
There was a small deck with Adirondack chairs for relaxing outside. There is also street parking not twenty feet from the private entrance, so loading and unloading was easy.
Our only complaint was that we were never out early enough to see the neighborhood peacocks! We drove the neighborhood a couple of times trying to get a glimpse, but no luck. Fun mid century neighborhood though. Some of the houses had some funky Austin things going on, and peacock crossings and roosting spots. Really a cute area, and we felt very safe.
We visit Austin every couple of years. We hope to stay here again.
Butler Studio is well located in Austin - close to the airport and downtown. The studio is exactly as described and very clean. It was a great retreat from the heat and nosie of Austin City Limits! I used the nearby running track each day and for those like me without a car shops and restaurants are in walking distance. The owners were fantastic and very helpful with a number of suggestions. I'd happily return and recommend to friends. Thank you.
We stayed 5 nights, and although small, it was just fine for my wife and I. Convenient for exploring Austin, easy access to get to, and the owners were very responsive to our questions and emails. We would stay here again.
I really enjoyed my Ausiin stay in this centrally located studio. It was quiet, clean, very comfortable bed, great TV and wifi, with excellent hosts. Exactly what I needed after a day on the go around Austin. I would definitely stay here again.
Butler Studio is in Delwood II nieghborhood, just adjacent to the new Mueller Development. Mueller, once the site of Austin's Airport, is now a thriving Green community with shops, restaurants, food trailers, and a Sunday Farmer's Market all within walking distance.
