Perfect for Family of 4
Having never visited, I began researching, and quickly learned that "The Bahamas" is much larger than I realized! We settled on Abaco because of the ease of accessibility through Marsh Harbor, and reviews I read on snorkeling and "island hopping." I found Jayhawk Nest after reading VRBO reviews, and carefully analyzing pictures of properties. We arrived into MHH, took a taxi to the Albury Ferry dock, and were greeted at the Guana Cay dock by Ruth who helped us with our bags and 2 large boxes we brought full of snorkel gear, and food. We picked up our golf cart from Troy at Dive Guana, and followed Ruth to the house. This house was absolutely perfect for us! We have 2 boys (10 & 12), and they had their own room with twin beds, and bath. The master BR/BA is on the opposite end of the house, and queen bed is very comfy. There are drawers and closet space in both rooms to unpack. The kitchen is open to the living/dining room, with plenty of counter space and gas range. I love to cook, and found that you can bring in anything with the exception of fresh fruits and veggies to the Bahamas. I brought a cooler full of frozen meat, cheese, and bread. To say the kitchen is well-equipped is an understatement! There are ample utensils, knives, pots and pans. There are spices, and condiments in the fridge. I used the crock pot to make BBQ one day. There is a small grocery to buy milk, eggs, and they do have meats, but if you're picky like me, probably best to bring your own. There are 3 restaurants on GGC, and we frequented Grabbers for their conch fritters and rum drinks! Nippers has a Sunday pig roast, and we were there for the big Easter egg hunt. The boys LOVED finding eggs, and exchanging them for prizes! The house is situated on a bluff overlooking the beautiful blue waters of the Sea of Abaco, and the deck perfectly situated for viewing sunsets! There is even an outdoor shower on the deck with hot water! The dock is down a short path. We rented a boat from Dive Guana for the week, and were able to tie up during the day without difficulty. The boys snorkeled off the dock, and I felt safe letting them be down there while we enjoyed the deck up at the house. The ONLY negative I would say is that access to the laundry would have been nice to dry towels. I found that they didn't dry well outside due to the humidity. That said, there were plenty of towels available. We threw flowers off the ferry back in hopes to return someday to GGC and Jayhawk Nest!
Spectacular home for two couples!!!
I’ve been coming to Guana for nearly 20 years, so I’ve stayed at many homes and know the island very well.
I love the layout of this home... it allows two couples to have the privacy they will love.
The dock was more than adequate for my 30 Foot Whaler with twin engines.
The dock requires scaling a rather steep climb to get to the house, but it was not a big deal... just watch your step to avoid slipping.
The view from the deck belongs on a jigsaw puzzle... great place to enjoy drinks, sunsets, and relax.
The home is centrally located and close to everything on Guana... you’ll want to have a golf cart... but the ease of access and the owners bright blue LEDs marking the driveway could not be better.
I think this home is ideal for two couples without children... with or without a boat... if that describes your group don’t hesitate... you can’t go wrong with this wonderful home!
Great house for vacation
Owner and caretaker are very nice taking care of everything
Jayhawk Nest - Great Guana, Bahamas
This rental was the best outfitted place the four of us have been in over the past 28 years going to the Bahamas. It's great for two couples. We rented a boat and were able to keep it at our own private dock. Everything was within 10 minutes walking distance. We were there in the middle of October so it was kind of hot and muggy, but there was air conditioning available. The mosquitos and no-see-mud were really bad but luckily there was a screened porch to enjoy the view from and not get eaten alive. There is good snorkeling around the private dock. Overall this was an excellent place.
Nice cottage on beautiful lot overlooking water
The cottage is centrally located and on large, private well-maintained lot. Large deck and screened porch. Beautiful view of the Sea of Abaco. A short walk down to the dock, which was a great place to sit in the evening for cocktails. Split 2 bedroom, 2 bath setup, perfect for a small family or two couples. Well-equipped kitchen. Lots of linens and towels. New DELUXE high-capacity professional icemaker , fridge and gas stove. Owners very hands on and always making improvements.
PERFECT cottage with gorgeous views!
My husband and I spent four nights in the Jayhawk Nest for our 30th anniversary and wish it could have been longer. The views are absolutely breathtaking, and everything about the cottage is perfect. It has one of the most well-equipped kitchens we've ever encountered, super comfy queen bed, great TV, a HUGE library of books to read, and a wonderful screened porch and deck. I was especially happy to find a snorkel and mask as my mask was leaking water, and snorkeling off the dock was SO MUCH FUN. I saw a nurse shark up close and many beautiful fish. We also saw a big turtle swimming out in the center of the bay. The cottage was an easy walk into the settlement or to the beautiful beach. We especially enjoyed dinners at Grabbers and ate there three out of our four nights on the island. Orchid Bay was a lovely place for our fourth night and fanciest dinner. Wes was a great host and answered all our questions before our trip. The caretaker Ruth was also super sweet and took us and our luggage to and from the ferry dock. We hope to stay here again if we return to the Bahamas one day.
