The Jardin at the center of town, is an easy 15 minute walk. Stepping into Casa Christina’s walled-courtyard with its pre-Columbian sculptures in the fountain, immediately sets the relaxed pace of your visit. The spacious 3200 square foot house sits on a large lot and is furnished with antiques and the beautiful art collection of Robert Somerlot, a well known author who lived in San Miguel for 35 years. The living room is graced with 18th century carved chapel doors from a historical hacienda in the local area. Maid and gardening service are included three days a week. The fountain courtyard or lower garden are ideal for outdoor meals.
The second story terrace is shared by the 2 upstairs bedrooms and has a view of the countryside. The rooftop garden with its incredible close-up view of San Antonio Church, is a wonderful place to enjoy the sunset, practice yoga or relax in a lounge chair with a good book. Each of the 3 bedrooms has its own attached bath. The Master Suite and Lower Bedroom Suite have King-sized beds and a twin bed in their sitting rooms. The third Bedroom has a Queen-sized bed. About Craig Lovell
I am a photographer based in Carmel Valley, California. I have a large library from around the world with a large selection of images of San Miguel de Allende. You can see my work at www.eaglevisions.net Click on the What's New section to see San Miguel.
Craig Lovell purchased this House in 2005
Why Craig Lovell chose Colonia San Antonio
We fell in love with the property and the incredible art collection of Robert Sommerlot who was the previous owner. He lived in San Miguel for over 35 years, was an author, gallery owner and director of plays. We feel as if we are the curators of his art and furniture collections which graces the property.
What makes this House unique
The house is located in the wonderful neighborhood of San Antonio very close to the San Antonio Church, the heart of the bario. We are far enough off of the main drag to have less traffic yet close enough to be close to the action.

We loved Craig's house in SMA! It was centrally located, spacious, and beautifully furnished. Recommend this place to anyone visiting this lovely town.
Dear Ji min,
So glad you enjoyed Casa Christina. We hope to host you again soon.
handsome house & outdoor spaces; great location; wonderful maid; comfort deficits
First the deficits----- with a winter season advisory: 3 guests arrived in record cold January weather [30's at night; 40's in the days 3+ out of 14 days ]; necessary gas space heaters functioning in upper rooms; heater in frigid basement not functional; replaced by excellent, prompt plumber on 4th day of vacation, after second request for fix [manager and owner responsive to requests but waited to replace heater until it was certain ----after second skilled attempt ----that the old heater was kaput] ; guest [not house manager] spent 1/2 day of vacation waiting to meet polite, skilled plumber who kept appointment promptly. Bedroom comfortable thereafter. Responsible owner and accessible manager, but don't hesitate if there's a problem. While the basement shower worked with plenty of warm water------ water pressure for showers in upstairs bathrooms only dribbled water, inadequate for bathing. Sound of frequent frequent all night tolling of nearby church bells in upstairs bedrooms----- sleep-disturbing----- or charming. Your choice. [You're in Mexico -----and will be happy you are----- at Casa Christina.] Basement sound-proof. The upstairs and downstairs/basement of the house are totally discreet spaces, providing absolute privacy. Lighting throughout house dim and old fashioned. Good natural daytime light in upper rooms.
The strong positives: very pleasant, 4 story, traditional, spotlessly clean Mexican house with excellent outdoor spaces and plantings; balconies and patio roof in upper floors; lovely courtyard garden out basement doors. Good beds, bedding, blankets/comforters and towels. Drinking water in large convenient dispensers. Nice, functional kitchen with good supply of implements/appliances for cooking. Wonderful !! angelic, non-intrusive maid 5 days a week; cooks expertly upon request for very modest fee; Maria is a huge plus. She launders clothing perfectly the same day as request, with in-house appliances. Wifi great; didn't use available TVs. Excellent location 20" walking distance to Centro and Jardin. Predominantly Mexican [versus expat] and perfectly safe [as is all of San Miguel] neighborhood. Ample supply of taxis 3 blocks away on Ancha, a main thoroughfare. Extra-good [Trattoria] and indifferent [Hecho de Mexico; "Hecho de Applebee's"] restaurants close by; small cheap places too. Drugstores handy for sunscreen etc. Weekly crafts fair close on Ancha. 4 stars instead of 5 for winter guests who will want showers like home
Thanks for the detailed review. I guess it was one of the colder January's in memory and we were happy to replace the heater for you. I instructed the staff to replace it as soon as I found out the older one was not getting the job done.
As for the upstairs showers the water pressure in normally very good. In fact I just bought a new pump to increase the water pressure throughout the whole house and two new shower heads when I was done over Christmas time although they had not been installed yet. Obviously there is a problem with the pressure so I thanks for letting me know and I will get this attended to ASAP.
All the best,
Owner of Casa Christina
Amazing property! Loved the experience and attention!
Casa Christina was welcoming and provided a relaxing stay. We had stores near us that were available for groceries as needed. The house was spacious and clean. The service we received from everyone involved was superb. Thank you for allowing us to use your beautiful home during our stay.
So glad you enjoyed the beauty and spaciousness of Casa Christina and our great staff. I hope you can come back and stay with us another time.
All the best,
Amazing and Spacious!
We recently returned from staying 6 days in Casa Christina! Upon booking, Craig was very helpful providing a handbook with all the information needed, including recommendations for shuttles, etc. Before arrival I contacted Domitila (or Domi) and she let me know to call right before arriving. We arrived about 2.5 hours before the time I initially indicated to Domi in my email communication! ack! nonetheless, she was very gracious in meeting us upon our arrival and showed us the house. We met Maria, the house keeper who was still picking up, we left to eat and when we returned all was great and clean. Maria was our life saver! We were there for my brothers wedding, and I gave her money the day before the wedding, so she can bring us tamales and fruit for breakfast. When I went downstairs, she had an amazing set up in the dining room. She also helped ironing some clothes for the 'callejonada'/ the pre-wedding party- we gave her extra for that, but it saved us so much time! the day after the wedding, we hosted family that came from throughout Mexico and the US and it was the perfect space to do that! The plaza principal is about a 15-20 min walk or a short taxi ride in. The nearby main street- Ancha de San Antonio- also has everything you need. Definitely highly recomended for a big group! Thank you!!!
This property is one of the best we have stayed at. Both Domatila and Maria were amazing! The whole house was so comfortable. We would stay here again, next time we are in San Miguel. Thank you!
So glad you enjoyed Casa Christina and all it has to offer. We look forward to hosting you again sometime soon!
Conveniently located. Great casa!
Great house, ambience perfect, typical Mexican home. Kitchen had all the appliances one could possibly want. Conveniently located, but far enough away to avoid traffic noise. Water pressure a little low, but LOTS of hot water.
We would definitely stay there again.
