This is new construction with modern features; 10 foot ceilings downstairs, open family/dining/kitchen area, bathrooms for each bedroom, decks on both levels (screened on lower), beautiful river view, two car parking garage, hardwood floors, granite countertops, well-equipped kitchen, baby gates, outlet covers, books, games, and videos for the kids. There is a queen-sized bed, a 4 person bunk bed (single on top, double base, and single trundle) in the upstairs front room, and a master suite with a king-sized bed, seating area, double vanity sinks, separate shower and jacuzzi, and large walk-in closet. There is a deck off the master as well, with beautiful marsh and river views. There are TVs in every bedroom. laundry is upstairs. We have a gas grill, a gas fireplace, ambient lighting and flat screen TV over the fireplace and in the master. Property has a private pool on the river, deep water community docks, good fishing, with gazebo. The beach is short 3 block walk town only 1 1/2 blk

Water's Edge

Staying at Waters Edge Community was a nice experience. a short walk to downtown. it slept 7 of us comfortably. however, not providing garbage bags, toilet paper or having the beds pre-made was an inconvenience.

While initially searching for a property on VRBO by location and proximity to the beach, it was deceiving when the VRBO map showed this property closer to the beach. when in reality its on the opposite end of town.

The Pool was fun and the other full time residences were friendly.

Checking in and out was simple and efficient.

Good Experience!

Overall the house was great! It was exactly what we needed for our weekend! It wasn't as clean as we had anticipated but that's probably due to a bad cleaning crew. There weren't enough towels for the number of people we said were staying. Easy walk to the beach and to restaurants in Folly Beach. Uber to Charleston is about $60 one-way which is highly inconvenient. The family that owns the house was very easy to contact via message on HomeAway and gets back to you very quickly. That was a great help!

Look elsewhere

I laugh when I read these postings from Aug. 2013 because we had the same issues a year later. This demonstrate the lack of management by the owner. We rented this unit Sat. - Thurs. There we numerous lightbulbs out in this property but nothing compared to the lack of electricity in the upstairs bedrooms! Getting ready for bed in the dark was not enjoyable nor was not being able to use the T.V.'s in either bedroom, the wireless modem to access the internet or something as simple as having your cell phone charging at your bedside! We called and left numerous voicemails with the owner, after tracking down her cell phone, called the reality office where we picked up the keys (they asked if we rented from them and I said 'No, with Home Away, and they said we had to call the owner) and several emails to the owner but to no avail. The reality agency said they do not manage the unit and were not instructed otherwise. I must say that this problem was discovered on day one and NOT after a minor storm we had on day 2 and day 3. The garage door openers were available but were not installed properly - only one worked and only to open the door but not close it! What and inconvenience to have to back the car out, stand there and close the door at the steps and go up thorough the house to leave! Upon arrival the towels were provided but two out of the three beds in the second bedroom had no sheets on them! It wasn't until the next day when they were delivered! All parties (owner and realtor) were aware these issues but we did not hear from the owner until Wed. the day before we left and nothing was done. The problem was probably nothing more than a circuit barker that was tripped but the circuit box is locked up in the garage! This is absolutely ridiculous! One usable T.V. and no internet and a owner who is "hand-off." make this a rental you should pass over. There are many nice properties in this community to rent!

Owner's Response: Again, I sincerely apologize for your negative experience at our property. I believe that we have compensated you fairly for your experience and I can assure you that this was not a normal week for us. We were in contact with you constantly (certainly no "hands off") trying to get your problems corrected as soon as we were made aware of the situation. I cannot tell you why the rental agency didn't immediately respond to the problem but after I contacted them, I was told they sent an electrician out to flip the switch on the breaker which was out due to a storm that came in before you arrived. We did what we could do to help you but unfortunately we found out from your vicious emails that we just cannot please everyone. We love our home in Folly and have been told over and over how wonderful it is. Every year we make upgrades to the home and hope that we can please every renter who walks through the door. In the upcoming weeks we will be changing management companies to a firm that promises to have a more customer service focus.

The Good and the not so Good

Pro: 3 bedroom with 3 full baths, great for 6 adults. Beds very comfy! TVs in bedrooms plus living area. Kitchen well supplied. Property well cared for. Walking distance to beach..with some caveats!

Con: Lack of towels. If you are staying here, make sure to bring your own beach towels and maybe bath towels. The towels provided are well used...and there is one per person! Yes, there is a washer and dryer but who wants to wash towels on vacation?

Lack of beach chairs: the condo accommodates 6 to 8 people yet there was only 2 beach chairs. If you are staying there, be sure to pack a few or be prepared to go without or pay 20-40$ for each add'l at the beach shops. Bikes would be another welcome addition, or an optional rental of the golf cart in the garage!

Caveat: beach was being dredged at the time of our stay. The blocks are short, but really it's at least a 5 block walk to the beach. At the end of 2nd street is a PRIVATE beach so you have to walk one block either way to access the beach. Because they were dredging the beach, we had to go another 2 blocks west to get access to the beach. It's a decent walk WITHOUT beach equipment, let alone chairs, towels and coolers!

It would be nice to have had a garage door opener. You have to park IN the garage at all times, yet there is no convenient way to close and open the garage door.

Also, the pool is small and mostly in the shade in the afternoons. The property is well cared for and convenient to restaurants and shops. However, try to grocery shop OFF the island!

Bottom line: nice place lacking beach equipment and proximity to beach on foot.

Each year we do lots of upgrades to keep our guests comfortable and coming back year after year. Unfortunately, we cannot offer bikes or rental of our golf cart. Our insurance just won't allow it. There are many places close by to rent bikes and a golf cart if you choose to do so. I am also sorry that you weren't happy with our management company's linen package. This is the first time I have received any feedback about the towels but I will be sure to speak with them about it. Keeping our guests happy is our first priority. great location!

We loved this home! Ameneties galore, spacious and close to everything we wanted to do on Folly. My boys loved fishing at the dock as much as they loved playing for hours on the beach. Easy walk to the beach. I highly recommend having breakfast or lunch at Lost Dog Cafe which is just 2 streets away. Quick walk to the "downtown" area and easy walk to the pier as well. Our only "issue" is the house keeping may be ripping the owners off. We swept upon check out per our rental instructions and found all manner of items from straws to crayons under the island in the kitchen. The 'fridge had what appeared to be melted ice cream down the front of it. There were a few other minor house keeping issues (lightbulbls burnt out, dead batteries in remotes) but all in all it was wonderful and I wouldn't let that stop me at all from ever renting this place again. Walmart is a short drive away for groceries, fishing license, etc. 25ish minute drive to Charleston depending on traffic. Listing description is accurate and we loved the color scheme. Jennifer was great to work with from booking all the way to after we left. The property managers were helpful with late check in and giving great directions. I would recommend this property to others.

The home was beautiful and very comfortable.

We had a wonderful time! The walk to the beach is easy for Children 9 years and up. The home is well furnished and the beds are comfortable. The town was perfect for our family 9 - 15 years old. The dock was great for crabbing and fishing. After our initial grocery shop we parked our car and walked everywhere. A few maintenance issues with the furniture in the living room that I think house keeping should have caught. My only MINOR complaint was with house keeping, light bulbs burnt out, garbage left in the garage and a circuit breaker was tripped. NOTHING major just felt the owners should know because the owners are terrific in responding they need better house keepers.

The home is located only 9 miles away from Historic Charleston where fine dining, aquarium, and the cobblestone streets of old Charleston awaits you. The cool beach town of Folly is a short 1 1/2 block walk away and has several restaurants from Tapas to Pizza and everything in between. There are several fishing guides available for backwater fishing, fly or spinning, speckled trout or redfish or go off shore for Tuna, Dolphin, Billfish. The newly refurbished beach is just 3 blocks away and Folly has several surf shops to rent boogie and/or surf boards. Some beach equipment is available at our home.
