Welcome to “Ms. Etta’s” House! Etta Wadley Watson was born in Cedar Key in 1908 and modeled with her own life the warmth, charm, and hospitality of her home. She loved to entertain friends, family and visitors and always wanted others to enjoy wonderful pictures of loved ones, view her beautiful yard, eat wonderful food, and to relax... and then relax some more. Upon her death her family decided to open her family home to those who are looking for a time of rest and relaxation and an opportunity to enjoy the scenic beauty, the birds, the warm breezes, and the unique culture of the island. If you have never been to Cedar Key, you are in for a real treat.

CEDAR KEY AREA
A part of Florida’s “Nature Coast”, Cedar Key is a place like no other. Local activities available include fishing, kayaking, and boat excursions from the local marina, and golf cart, bike, and scooter rentals. Nearby Chiefland, Florida boasts a fine 18-hole golf course as well as Manatee Springs State Park – one of the largest fresh water springs in Florida (feeds into the Suwannee River). More information on Cedar Key is available at the Chamber of Commerce web site.
My sister and I own Ms. Etta's House in Cedar Key. Our mother loved to entertain and she was so charming, beautiful, and gracious that we decided to share our home with others in her name. We have a spacious home so we attract wonderful family groups who are celebrating birthdays, graduating from the University of Florida, quilting, reunions, or just getting away with friends for fellowship and relaxation. We get such wonderful feedback and returning guests ... how totally perfect. Come see us and we think you will want to return again and again.
Jim Webb purchased this house in 2007
Ms. Etta's House has been our family's favorite vacation spot for many years. When we think of relaxing, napping, fishing, boating, watching the birds, or just taking a long walk, we think of Cedar Key. We decided that Ms. Etta's House would be in our family's experience for generations to come. We maintain our home just like our beloved mother was still living there ... we love to remember the wonderful Cedar Key experiences with her.
Ms. Etta's House is spacious, comfortable and perfect for families or great friends. We enjoy the opportunity to share the main floor of the house with family and friends and retreat upstairs to the comfortable and private apartment. We love to get around the piano in the large living room and sing songs that warm our hearts. We love to watch the sea birds from the porch off the apartment or just enjoy the privacy of reading a good book and feel the breeze ... a taste of Old Florida at its best. The front porch and the swing are a favorite spot for morning coffee or visiting with family and friends. Our grandchildren love to lick the bowl as they watch their grandmother prepare great pies, cakes or pudding treats. The Gulf shore is just down the street complete with the most remarkable sunsets you can imagine ... perfect for photographers who like to capture unbelievable beauty. The house features ample parking for multiple cars and boats with a spacious lawn for children to run and play. There is just no place like Cedar Key if you really want to get away and relax.
I can't say enough about Miss Etta's House and Jim Webb, the manager. As hurricane Mathew was approaching us I got onto VRBO and found this wonderful home that my family and friends escape to to wait out the hurricane. The home is nicely and comfortably furnished with everything you could need and plenty of separate living areas so you don't feel on top of each other. Jim contacted me within 10 minutes so I knew we could start packing. Cedar Key is a quaint and historic little laid back town with several good restaurants and shopping opportunities. Tony's Seafood Restaurant's clam chowder is the best I have ever eaten. We also enjoyed Steamers Clam Bar & Grill, 83 West and had a great shrimp burger at Away From The World, known for their many different beers. Next time we visit we hope to take advantage of the good fishing there.
Miss Etta's house was perfect for our gathering of five couples with a few kids. The house had everything we needed, was a delightful setting, and is spread out enough and open so that we didn't feel that we were on top of each other. The owner and caretaker were exceptionally attentive and helpful throughout the process. Cedar Key is a quiet and pleasant island. Not a lot to do but relax, bird-watch, and kayak, but that was all OK with us!
Because of the thoughtfulness of our host and his family, I was able to have all my children and their spouses at Cedar Key with me for my birthday and special time for remembrance of my husband. Ms. Etta's is the perfect place to stay - and not just for the accommodations (excellent!), the cleanliness (excellent!), the fully equipped kitchen and laundry (excellent!), and the atmosphere (also excellent!). Beyond those things, and even more special, was that we all felt surrounded by the love and hospitality of Ms. Etta and her family - it was, for us, a serene and magical place. Perfect in every way!
We just came back from Miss Ettas...it was hard to leave! We loved the house...it was so clean! The front porch was a great place for that first cup of coffee in the morning! Six of us stayed for the weekend. We were attending Beth Davis', the owner of The Salty Needle, second annual quilting retreat. Miss Etta'd was perfect. We didn't need our vehicles the entire time. Miss Etta's is close enough to EVERYTHING you can walk anyplace you want to go, even to the quilt shop! It was the perfect place for us six crazy women and we are already looking forward to staying at Miss Etta's next year! Stay at Miss Etta'd, you won't be disappointed, just not during The Salty Needles quilting retreat because we will be there!
There were eleven quilters who had a grand time at Miss Etta's House. We sewed up a storm, enjoyed the sunsets and clam chowder, walks around town and evenings spent enjoying one another's company in the spacious living room.
After years of talking about it, a 6 of us got together at Ms. Etta's House for a Girl's Getaway weekend. We were all in much need of a well-deserved break to just relax and have some fun. We did. I absolutely Loved the house and the area. We had a wonderful time. Plenty of room, very nice. We checked out sun rises and sun sets, ate, shopped. Went over to Crystal River to check out the manatees and so much more. I highly recommend it and we look forward to going there again.
