I first came to the cape in the late 80's, mainly for the summers, spending the winters in Colorado working so I could ski and snowboard. I moved to the cape full time in 1996. In 2000 I designed and built this home adding the cottage around 2006.
I work for a non-profit located in Eastham where I oversee the development and construction of affordable housing. I spend my free time doing much the same things as visitors do, walking the trails in the National Seashore, hitting the ponds along the way. I get to the ocean and the bay as much as I can.
Abigail Chapman purchased this house in 2000
This home was designed and built by me in 2000 back when I was still wearing a tool belt and was young enough to pull it off. There was much help from loved ones, family and friends, and somehow after one year, it was built. The home is unique, as almost everyone notes. It feels big, but still cozy. Most everyone walks right through the house, to the porch, then into the back yard garden. When my friends come to visit, I often have to encourage them to leave for a few hours and go enjoy a beach or pond.
This is a real home, not a rental property. The furniture is solid and the kitchen is fully stocked. Some families have been coming here for over seven years, and have a sense of ownership, almost as if it is their summer home. Their children have partly grown up here, as one can see in the guest book.
We had a relaxing and enjoyable stay in this well appointed home.
The owners are very accommodating and welcoming.
The exterior shower is the best we have ever used.
We will definitely return.
My family and I stayed here in August 2014 (It wouldn't let me go back that far). We still always talk about how great this place is. The house was gorgeous and filled with all kinds of creative decorations and fresh air. It is also well-furnished and comfortable. The property is situated on a nice road too that is great for evening walks. I loved the claw foot tub and the plants. We would definitely return!
Abigail's home is the best one we have rented over the many years we have vacationed in Wellfleet. The house met all of our family's needs and comforts, it was exceptionally clean and well organized. Abigail and Jennifer were attentive hosts showing concern about our comforts and needs. The location is perfect within walking distance to beauitful and secluded Duck Pond and nearby hiking trails. The ocean, Bay and Wellfleet center are within minutes by car or bike. I am somewhat reluctant to share this review for fear that an increase in its popularity will make it difficult for us the secure a spot on next season's calendar.
We will definitely be returning
We could not have been any luckier for our first Cape Cod vacation!
The house is immaculate!
The pictures are accurate but the feeling you get in the house is even better...the soaring ceilings, the cool breeze through the house, the relaxing porch and hammock...next to a big grill!! not to mention the ping-pong table in the basement!
The outdoor shower was a god-send with tired, sandy kids ready for some TV time on the system with surround sound and cable TV...all this after short drives to all of the beaches!!
Abigail was a gracious, discreet host...the vegetable fairy left goodies from the garden on the back steps as well as fresh cut flowers :) she also made time to help the kids pick carrots, green beans and chives for our salad!
We are hooked and hope to be able to come back often! Thank you for a wonderful stay!
We were pleasantly surprised at how nice this home was - from the beautiful wood floors, great cooking utensils, to the lovely porch and new grill. It was evident that someone actually lived there and enjoyed nice quality things, vs. a summer rental that is cheaply furnished with the bare minimum. We LOVED the large porch that faced the back yard and garden. We spent lots of time there throughout the day but we particularly enjoyed having our coffee there first thing in the morning. I really liked the kitchen since I'm an avid cook - plenty of pots/pans and good knives to cook with. The outside shower was a godsend when you have sandy children to rinse off! The open layout and high ceilings made everything feel spacious and roomy - the home is ideal for having friends over to hang out and grill. Plus the fresh veggies from the garden was a nice, generous gesture from the owner. Overall such a lovely visit and a beautifully maintained and comfortable home. We will certainly stay again!
What a pretty house and perfect for a relaxing week - or two or three weeks - in Wellfleet. (I started to feel so at home, I really didn't want to leave.) Things I particularly love: the open kitchen and antique farm table, the ample porch overlooking a flower-fringed private back yard (we spent as much time on the porch as we did inside), and the outdoor shower topped by wisteria vines. Oh, and if your experience of grilling while on vacation is a rickety Webber, you are in for a treat with the gourmet grill at this house. The house sits on a quiet street and is centrally located, convenient to the center of town. And if you like walking through the woods, you can stroll to lovely Duck pond or even all the way to the ocean.
Close to beaches both bay and ocean, close to ponds and bike trails, and tennis courts. All the Cape has to offer no matter which direction you go! Provincetown is a 15 minute drive or go 'up-Cape' to a more populated area. Or stay close by and enjoy all that Wellfleet has to offer, including quaint Wellfleet village, complete with town hall and farm stand. Nearby flex bus makes for inexpensive public transportation. Large 52' flat screen TV. Weber Stainless Steel Grill.
