Enjoy the peaceful setting of the farmer's porch rain or shine. Central air conditioning available for additional charge. Easy access and very close to bay beaches (Indian Neck, Fox Island) and ocean beaches (Lecounts Hollow, Cahoon Hollow); Duck Pond is nearby, as well as other ponds. Access bike trails from nearby South Wellfleet General Store. Access to hiking trails in the Cape Cape Cod National Seashore (1/4 mile). Cathedral ceilings throughout, with open floor plan, perfect for entertaining. Plenty of room for relaxing in 32X18 foot great room, large master bedroom and basement. Fully equipped kitchen, 4-burner gas stove, full-sized refrigerator, center island, double sink, and all necessary appliances needed for cooking.

Access to porch from (17x14) master bedroom and living room. Second bedroom (11x10) has half-bath, Ping-Pong table in basement. Large Flat Screen, large stainless steel Weber grill with smoker and rotisserie options, fire pit availableMany special features make this a lovely, modern and clean home perfect for your Cape Cod vacation. About Abigail Chapman

I first came to the cape in the late 80's, mainly for the summers, spending the winters in Colorado working so I could ski and snowboard. I moved to the cape full time in 1996. In 2000 I designed and built this home adding the cottage around 2006.

I work for a non-profit located in Eastham where I oversee the development and construction of affordable housing. I spend my free time doing much the same things as visitors do, walking the trails in the National Seashore, hitting the ponds along the way. I get to the ocean and the bay as much as I can.

Why Abigail Chapman chose Wellfleet

This home was designed and built by me in 2000 back when I was still wearing a tool belt and was young enough to pull it off. There was much help from loved ones, family and friends, and somehow after one year, it was built. The home is unique, as almost everyone notes. It feels big, but still cozy. Most everyone walks right through the house, to the porch, then into the back yard garden. When my friends come to visit, I often have to encourage them to leave for a few hours and go enjoy a beach or pond.

What makes this house unique

This is a real home, not a rental property. The furniture is solid and the kitchen is fully stocked. Some families have been coming here for over seven years, and have a sense of ownership, almost as if it is their summer home. Their children have partly grown up here, as one can see in the guest book.

You won't be disappointed!

We've returned to this wonderful Wellfleet house for many summers now. It's a true gem! We love its open layout, comfy furniture and peaceful back porch - everything you need for a relaxing vacation. It's also spotless and lovingly decorated. As you can see from the photos - it's a home, not simply a rental property. Other things we love: it's conveniently located on the ocean side of Rt 6 (avoid traffic to get to ponds, town); has a well-stocked kitchen (quality cookware and knives, serving platters) as well as a large, well-maintained gas grill; AND has low & high tech diversions in case of bad weather (ping pong table, fantastic home media set-up with streaming movies, excellent wifi).

In addition to plenty of fresh and saltwater swimming, our family's Wellfleet traditions include biking the CC Rail Trail, stargazing by a bonfire on Newcomb Hollow Beach (permits are limited - get to Beach Office before it opens), and watching the sun set while chowing down fried clams and oysters at Mac's Shack (Wellfleet Harbor).

The homeowner, Abigail, is terrific- she's responsive to any questions/concerns as well as respectful of your privacy. Moreover, she's super generous with her gardens (flowers and veggies galore) and grounds (when our daughter was young and into building forts in the woods Abigail would set aside lumber for her to use). We have so many lovely memories of vacations spent here. thank you, Abigail, for sharing your home - we look forward to making more memories next summer (Billingsgate Island - here we come!).

And while I wish your daughter were still into building forts, it has been sweet to hear her various instrument interests of late. She is nailing that ukulele. Next summer she can play a few tunes on Billingsgate Island. That would be magical.

Lovely Home

We spent 8 wonderful nights in this beautifully decorated, clean, comfortable home. The open kitchen/living area was delightful for conversation while cooking in the fully equipped kitchen. The farmers porch was our favorite spot to lounge, overlooking beautiful flower gardens and a private wooded back yard. The ping pong table was a real hit, and the outdoor shower just the best. Location cannot be beat, able to ride to the Rail Trail in just a few minutes, as well as to purchase luscious French bakery items at PB Boulangerie. Abigail has been extremely responsive, and provided more than adequate information in advance of our stay about the house, ect...Looking forward to returning in the future!

4-star home. 0-star owner.

It is important to note that the owner lives in a studio on the property. In a conversation before we rented the house, she told us that she would be present “as much or as little” as we wanted her to be. Reassured that we would have the autonomy one would expect when paying top dollar for a rental on the Cape, we booked it.

On Sunday we told Abigail of our plan to have a gathering of friends and extended family, a total of 20 including us, for a backyard dinner we had planned to celebrate our 60th birthdays. She raised no objection to the number of people or the food truck that would be catering for us. In fact, on Monday she offered, unsolicited, to set up additional seating and tables for us.

At 10:45 on Wednesday the morning of our dinner, Abigail informed us that us we did not have her permission to hold our dinner “at her home”. She refused to discuss her reasons or any solutions we proposed e.g. picking up the food ourselves, shuttling guests from off-site parking, ending early etc. Her only response was “I changed my mind”. This turnabout came less than 48 hours after she had fully supported our plans. We were in complete shock and bewilderment.

There was nothing in our rental agreement or rules of the house stating any restrictions on renters with regard to gatherings at the home. In fact, we were well within our legal rights as renters to host this gathering.

We could not find another place at such short notice to accommodate the caterer and our group (including two parents in their 80s with limited mobility). We had no choice but to cancel the food and our get-together.

Abigail’s sudden about-face cost us money, great inconvenience and much distress. The remainder of our vacation was tainted by the experience. We are responsible, mature adults who have rented on the Cape for many years. We have held similar gatherings each year without a single incident or complaint from owners or neighbors. We treated the home and Abigail with the utmost respect, but she did not reciprocate.

To sum it up, this owner turned out to be unpredictable, unprofessional and unreasonable in her dealings with us.

Owner's Response: The statements in this review are not entirely true and do not reflect the experiences of other people who have rented my home. When initially inquiring, Sandra S. and Leslie Z. asked if it would be okay to have a "small dinner party" during their stay. My response was to say, of course, that's fine. It was not until the morning of their party, via text, that I learned the whole story. They not only invited more than 20 people, but also planned to park a FOOD TRUCK in my yard. I called them immediately to let them know that was not acceptable. I explained that it was not appropriate to hold an event like that at my home, and one that was likely to disrupt this small, quiet neighborhood. In an effort to be helpful I did offer suggestions of a few places that might be more appropriate. I also let them know they were more than welcome to have the "small dinner party" they initially described to me. Two hours later, I received a voicemail from them stating they had contacted a lawyer and were allowed to do "whatever they wanted in my home." (Obviously, they chose not to have the party.) Their sense of entitlement and lack of sensitivity to their surroundings was disturbing. Even customer support at HomeAway.com was shocked at their plans to park a food truck in my yard stating, "Wow! That's a first." I did feel bad these women were not be able to celebrate their birthdays as planned, but I also resented being put in a very tough position by being informed about the full extent of their plans at the last minute. I've rented my home for more than 10 years and have had nothing but positive feedback from every single person except these two women. Many people return every summer. Their reviews provide a good sense of what it's like to stay in my home and of their experiences with me.

The owners are very accommodating and welcoming.

The exterior shower is the best we have ever used.

Beautiful House!

My family and I stayed here in August 2014 (It wouldn't let me go back that far). We still always talk about how great this place is. The house was gorgeous and filled with all kinds of creative decorations and fresh air. It is also well-furnished and comfortable. The property is situated on a nice road too that is great for evening walks. I loved the claw foot tub and the plants. We would definitely return!

Over the years we have rented 5 Wellfleet homes

Abigail's home is the best one we have rented over the many years we have vacationed in Wellfleet. The house met all of our family's needs and comforts, it was exceptionally clean and well organized. Abigail and Jennifer were attentive hosts showing concern about our comforts and needs. The location is perfect within walking distance to beauitful and secluded Duck Pond and nearby hiking trails. The ocean, Bay and Wellfleet center are within minutes by car or bike. I am somewhat reluctant to share this review for fear that an increase in its popularity will make it difficult for us the secure a spot on next season's calendar.
